Mt. Everest rises majestically to 8,848 meters in height (29,029 ft). It’s brilliantly bold snowcap peak pierces the dark blue skies of the Himalayas. They have created level ground through terracing in a land where no level ground naturally exists.

The Easy Trek to Mount Everest Base Camp without Altitude Sickness allows for two days of acclimatization in order to avoid the affects of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). There is plenty of time to explore the land of the Sherpas, to see amazing monasteries and colorful villages. You will marvel at the awesome beauty of the stunning snowcapped peaks that surrounds Mt. Everest like ladies in waiting before their queen.

Your destination is Everest Base Camp, but each day is filled with fun and excitement. It is 16 magnificent days in the land of the world’s highest mountains.

Программа тура

Day 1

Arrival in Kathmandu

The adventure of a lifetime begins as your plane lands at Tribhuvan International Airport where you are greeted by your personal representative of Himalayan Planet Adventures and taken to your hotel to relax from your long flight. You will find friendly faces at the Himalayan Planet Office as you are briefed on the final details of your Easy Trek to Everest Base Camp without Altitude Sickness. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Nepali welcome dinner complete with incredible Nepali food and drink followed by an amazing cultural program of ethnic dances. You will delight in the many unique and marvelous cultures that you will find across the Himalayan land of Nepal. Following the program you will return to your hotel for a restful and enjoyable night, breathing in the pure Himalayan air.

Day 2

Kathmandu City Tour

This is your first full day in Nepal and no trip to this magical land would be complete without taking a day to see the amazing Kathmandu Valley! The history here dates back thousands of years as various dynasties came and went. Each has left its mark that is best preserved at seven different UNESCO World Heritage Sites.  On today’s adventure, you will enjoy three of those exotic places. The first is the holiest of Hindu temples in Nepal: Pashupatinath.  Situated on both sides of the holy Bagmati River, nearly 50 temples bear homage to a host of Hindu deities that make up the pantheon of eastern spirituality. Colorful sadhus (Hindu Holy Men) can be seen teaching and performing various pujas (rituals) while rhesus monkeys perform amazing antics for your enjoyment. We move on to Boudhanath, the largest Buddhist stupa in Asia and third largest in the world. This is the home of the largest concentration of Tibetan refugees who practice authentic Tibetan Buddhism.  In the afternoon travel to the legendary ancient city of Bhaktapur which has been preserved as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore its alleys, squares, and temples before returning to your hotel.

Day 3

Fly to Lukla and trek to Phakding

The morning comes early 5-6 am as your private car picks you up and takes you to the domestic airport in Kathmandu. You board the flight in anticipation as your journey to EBC is now underway! The flight is only 35 minutes, but what a flight it is! You literally fly over the backbone of the Himalayas, gazing down at the world’s highest mountains. Lukla is a picture postcard place where we land, collect our gear and begin our trek. The trail passes through dense forests and over fast-flowing glacier-fed rivers.  Along the way are small farms of the Sherpa people. Even though at times the jungle is dense, we will have places where we can see the mighty snowcapped peaks. Our lunch spot is an outcropping where we have a magnificent view of Mt. Kusum-Kanguru (elev. 6.369 m/20,890 ft.).  We cross a short suspension bridge and then walk another 1 ½ hours to reach the Sherpa village of Phakding. We will stop here for the night. It’s been a short day of trekking, and there will be time to explore the village as we begin to learn about the local Sherpa culture.

Day 4

Trek to Namche Bazar

We rise to the smell of breakfast as the morning sun begins to break across the Himalayan skies. It’s a hearty breakfast which we’ll need as we have a full day of uphill trekking to reach the traditional Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar. We follow along the Dudh Koshi River, crossing it from time to time. Today’s mountain is Mt. Thamserku (elev. 6,608 m/21,675 ft.). Its lofty summit glistens white reflecting the rays of the morning sun. At the small little village of Monjo, we officially enter Sagarmatha National Park. We soon cross a suspension bridge over the Bhote-Koshi River, reaching the village of Jorsalle. From here on, it’s just jungle until we reach the beautiful Sherpa village of Namche Bazaar.  As we climb higher in elevation, the vegetation becomes less and less, affording us views of the picturesque Kwangde Peak as well as Mt. Lhotse. We trek a total of 5 – 6 hours in order to reach Namche Bazaar with its colorful houses and maze of streets. We will spend two days at Namche Bazaar at a very nice guest house with great food.

Day 5

Acclimatization at Namche Bazar

The Everest region is a land of high elevation, which requires us to stop and allow our bodies to acclimatize. The Sherpa people who live up here are used to the thinner mountain air. However, you are not, and once you cross the 3000-meter mark, it is necessary to take 24 hours to allow your body to adjust to the thinner air. You will notice that you are short of breath when you arrive in Namche Bazaar, but by the end of today, you will be breathing much easier. Namche Bazaar is a perfect place to acclimatize because there is so much to see and do. If we arrive on a Saturday, the marketplace is alive with people and vendors. There is a wonderful bakery in town, along with the Sherpa Museum where you can stop and learn more about the culture of the Everest people. Walk up the hill to Everest View Hotel for your first close-up view of Mt. Everest in all of its glory. Everywhere you look is incredible scenery. You are in no hurry today as you prepare for tomorrow’s trek.

Day 6

Trek to Thame

The Everest region also is called the Khumbu and today’s journey will take us to the western part of the Khumbu to a little village known as Thame. As we climb higher, the dense jungle of a couple of days ago gives way to juniper shrubs. This region is limited in what can grow here at this high elevation. Most of the farms we will see grow potatoes, carrots, and buckwheat. Diets are limited up here, supplemented by butter tea made from the milk of yaks. You’ll see lots of yaks on this part of the trip. They are big, hairy cows weighing as much as 1 ton. Their milk is rich in butterfat, helping the Sherpas to survive. We’ll have a chance to sample yak cheese, which is a delicious cheese with its own unique flavor. Below us opens the Thame Valley which has more agricultural opportunities due to the lower elevation. This place is popular with mountain climbers and features a very beautiful Buddhist monastery.  Today’s journey takes us between 4 and 5 hours before putting in at a quaint little tea house for the night.

Day 7

Trek to Khumjung

We circle around today as we climb upwards to reach Khumjung Village, home of the world’s highest hospital. Sir Edmund Hillary on his historic climb in 1953 fell in love with the Sherpa people. He saw their primitive living conditions and made it his life’s work to improve the lives of these hardy mountain people. He built schools, suspension bridges and even the Khunde-hospital here which has saved a countless number of lives. We’ll drop down in elevation to reach Khumjung Village where we find a large monastery. It is here that we can see a real yeti scalp! Don’t believe in yetis, you say? Well, the local people do and at night, you will hear a strange cry that fills the night. The Sherpa people claim it’s a yeti! As you listen to the cry in the night, you will be glad you are indoors staying at a nice little guest house and under a thick, warm comforter. It’s about a four to five-hour trek today as we make our way closer to EBC.

Day 8

Trek to Tengboche

One of the most beautiful places in the Khumbu is the amazing little village of Tyangboche. From its lofty heights is the world’s highest Buddhist monastery. Here the monks can gaze upon Mt. Everest in all of its glory as they meditate. The air is so incredibly crisp and pure up here. There may not be a lot of vegetation this high up, but the scenery is superb.  The entire trek today will allow us sublime views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Thamserku and Mt. Kwangde. Be before we climb, we descend into the valley below to cross the Imjatse-River at a tiny little mountain village known as Phungithanga. The valley will feature some trees, including rhododendron and blue pines. Occasionally there are even a few magnolia and birch trees.  Once past Phungithanga, we trek upward to reach Tyangboche, passing fields farms. We walk today around 4 – 5 hours to reach this Shangri-la of the Khumbu region. We will spend the night at a lovely guest house. And, of course, we will visit the famous monastery with its magnificent views.

Day 9

Trek to Dingboche

It’s an early morning trek, dropping down again into a valley where we pass through some beautiful forests. By now you’ve learned that nothing is level here in the Khumbu region. Everything is up and down, climbing rocky crags and then dropping into green valleys surrounded by snowcapped peaks. We will reach Deboche (elev. 3,650 m) for a stunning view of the surrounding peaks. Along the way are Mani Walls. These feature the sayings of Lord Buddha carved into the stone. The Sherpa people are followers of Tibetan Buddhism. Prayer flags flutter in the breeze, sending prayers to the heavens above. Today you can see Island Peak, which is a popular trekking peak in the eastern Himalayas. It is officially known as Imjatse (elev. 6,189 m) and gets is a popular name because it looks like an island surrounded by a frozen sea. There are many good tea houses at Dingboche to choose from. We have our personal favorites where we know the owners personally. They will definitely take good care of us for the next couple of days as we look forward to a hot meal.
Day 10

Acclimatization at Dingboche

When traveling in the Khumbu region, it is necessary to take two different days for acclimatization, and today we spend the day at Dingboche. We’ve crossed the 4000-meter mark, and it requires us again to stop and allow our bodies to adjust. Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is a serious problem and if not treated properly, can even be fatal. The good news is that we don’t need any fancy medicines to deal with it. Instead, we simply stop and take the time to adjust. Dingboche has a number of small places to enjoy, including the world’s highest pool hall! We’ll do some day hiking. Many trekkers come here to start treks toward Mt. Makalu, the 5th highest mountain in the world. This is probably the world’s highest farm country. The Sherpas here build stone walls around their property to help protect their tender crops from the ever-present wind. Prayer flags will flutter non-stop as the wind never ceases. While you can choose to rest for the day, you can also take a day hike to Chhukung (elev. 4,730 m). This is the last village in the eastern Khumbu. Spend a final night at Dingboche.
Day 11

Trek to Lobuche

We rise refreshed and after eating a very hearty breakfast, turn to the north to reach our destination of Everest Base Camp. We have one more stop for the night before reaching our destination. The trail today is more gradual and after an hour, we enjoy a gentle trail over a hard mountain meadow. We find Buddhist prayer stupas up here. These are monuments built by faithful to commemorate a person or an event in their lives. Always walk clockwise around any stupa as this creates positive energy. We will pass through some tiny little villages that support just a few families. Each of these places will afford us more stunning views of the snowcapped peaks of the Khumbu region. The trail will start to rise in elevation and at times will become steep, making us appreciate the level places we had earlier in the day. We will pass a number of memorials to those unfortunate climbers who lost their lives climbing Mt. Everest and other peaks in the region. These mountains are not very forgiving to climbers. We arrive at Lobuche for the night.
Day 12

Trek to Gorak Shep and Hike to Kala Patthar

Lobuche is close to Gorakshep, our final place to stay on our way to EBC. It’s about two hours to Gorakshep. There is no settlement here, just places for visitors to stay. EBC has only Camping sites and does not offer a view of Mt. Everest. Instead, once we drop off our backpacks at Gorakshep, we will climb to the top of Mt. Kalapatthar for the most spectacular close-up view of the world’s highest mountain. From on top of Mt. Kalapatthar is the most awesome view of all the peaks of the Khumbu region. We can see five 8000+ meter peaks from here. The climb to the top is not particularly challenging. Mt. Kalapatthar is considered a trekking peak, which means no special equipment is required to climb it. We go next to the Khumbu glacier for even more amazing sights to photograph. The entire day will be a spending taking in the magnificent scenery as well as breathing the pure Himalayan air. Crisp and cold, it will make your lungs tingle with delight.

Day 13

Hike to Everest Base Camp and Gorak Shep

Today we reach our ultimate destination: Everest Base Camp. It is from this auspicious location that Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay and their team began their historic climb to the top of Mt. Everest in 1953. Together, they were the first to conquer the world’s highest mountain. The actual trek to EBC is not the same as the steps followed by those famous mountain climbers. As we pass the Khumbu Ice Fall, the glacier advances a little each year, creating a new trail for us to follow. The walk today is strenuous as the air is very thin up here. We are well above the 5000-meter mark. There are rocky dunes plus glacial fed streams along the way we cross over. Everest Base Camp is usually marked with a lot of energy with mountain climbers either preparing for the climb or celebrating a successful journey to the summit with a safe return. We meet these climbers as well as others who have trekked here. It takes us around 2 – 3 hours to reach EBC, returning for a second night at Gorakshep.
Day 14

Trek back to Pheriche

We’ve spent two wonderful days at the guest house at Gorakshep. We’ve climbed to the top of Mt. Kalapatthar to see the finest view anywhere of Mt. Everest. We have ogled the snowcapped peaks of the world’s highest mountains in their entire splendor. Now it’s time to begin the return journey back to civilization. We rise early to make our way to the village of Pheriche. It’s important to start early because of mid-afternoon, the cold winds of the Himalayas will blow. We are starting to drop in elevation as we move along the ridge. There is little in the way to block our visibility and we have superb views all along the way. We are really in no great hurry as we take our time. It's around 4 – 5 hours of walking today to reach Pheriche. This little village is home of the Himalayan Rescue Association and after 3 pm, we can visit with those brave people who work to rescue trekkers and climbers in this remote region on the roof of the world. We will spend the night at a modest guest house here in Pheriche.
Day 15

Trek to Phortse

The nice part of the return trip is that each day we are dropping in elevation, making for an easier trek. We rise for a delicious breakfast. The guest house in Pheriche may be small, but the people here are friendly and they can really cook. We drop in elevation to reach the village of Pangboche where there is a fork in the trail. We will take the trail that leads to Phortse Village. By taking the Phortse trail, we leave the traditional tourist route behind. It’s a quieter trail where we probably won’t be many foreign travelers. Instead of our companions will be local Sherpas moving from village to village on their appointed rounds. We find it a pleasant two-hour walk from Pangboche to Phortse, with the village under the shadows of the majestic peaks of the Khumbu region. At our guest house, we can see musk deer, pheasants and Himalayan-Thar from our windows. Above us rise some new peaks, including Machharmo and Kyajo Ri with their snowcapped crowns. We relax by the fire, sipping hot tea and enjoying the local people.
Day 16

Trek back to Namche Bazar

One thing that becomes obvious is that we will be seeing more and more vegetation as we drop in elevation. The local farms look more prosperous as more crops can be grown here. We start to see forests again, filled with silver fir, blue pines, birch, magnolia as well as the rhododendron trees. The rhododendron is not much to look at except in March and April when its colorful blooms burst forth in a bouquet of color. A wooden bridge crosses the Dudh Khola; the river getting its name from its frothy milk color. It becomes a steep climb up to the top of Mongla Hill where we will stop for a breathtaking view of the eastern Himalayas. We stand in awe of the Everest Himalaya Range before walking to Sanasa village. Our journey will take us back to the Sherpa Capital of Namche Bazaar which will welcome us like an old friend. We have returned, ready to enjoy a full dinner in one of the finer guest houses that dot the village.
Day 17

Trek back to Lukla

It’s our final day of trekking today as we make our way back to the picturesque airport at Lukla. We drop down into the jungle that becomes quite dense at this lower elevation. The Sherpa farms are so incredibly beautiful. These farms grow many more crops and it can be found at the higher elevations which you have trekked by a few days earlier. We leave Sagarmatha National Park and make our way further down the trail. We stop for lunch in Phakding for a pleasant lunch, sharing memories of our journey. The rest of the day alternates between the lush greenness of the jungle and outcroppings where we can stand and admire the beauty of the skyline of the Everest region. Our destination is Lukla where we put in for the night. No doubt we will meet other travelers as we share stories about our incredibly amazing Everest trek.
Day 18

Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu

It’s an early morning flight back to Kathmandu. Just 35 exciting minutes as your plane goes airborne, following the snowcapped peaks westward to reach the magical capital city of Nepal. Today is a good day to relax at your hotel. No doubt you want to rest those tired muscles. Thamel has many wonderful places to get a deep rub massage which effectively soothes those newly developed leg muscles. And you certainly have gained great strength in your legs; stretching muscles that you never knew you had! While you can certainly take a well deserved-nap, many ascend to the top of their hotels to enjoy reading a book on the many roof gardens that crown the buildings. In the evening, go out and enjoy a dinner of anything your heart desires. You can find a great variety of menus in Thamel and beyond.
Day 19

Rest at Kathmandu

The weather of the Khumbu/Everest region can be unpredictable, especially when it comes to flying. The Lukla airport often closes because of bad weather and fog. We at Himalayan Planet Adventures build in an extra day just in case this happens. If we are delayed at Lukla, enjoy a day of resting and drinking tea with your fellow travelers as they share stories about their Khumbu adventure. If we do depart on schedule, then take the time today to explore the many sights that abound in the Kathmandu Valley. It’s a good day to go shopping or to check out interesting little temples that dot the many narrow streets of Kathmandu. You can also go paragliding or take a cable car adventure. Ask your guide from Himalayan Planet Adventures about other fascinating places to see in and around the Kathmandu Valley. It’s a big place to visit; so don’t hesitate to discover your own little private corner of this Shangri-la! In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with your guide and friends from Himalayan Planet Adventures.
Day 20

Departure

It’s your final day in the magical land of the Himalayas. If there is time, you can use the remaining hours to do some last minute gift shopping before leaving for the airport. Your guide from Himalayan Planet Adventures will take you by private car to the right entrance gate as you depart for your next destination. Before leaving, be sure to plan for your return trip to Nepal. The Khumbu/Everest region is certainly impressive, but this country offers so much more. There are other mountain ranges to see with incredible alpine lakes. Why not consider dropping down into the jungles to see the wonders of the exotic animals where the endangered species still run wild. It’s all here in Nepal. Come and return for a lifetime of pleasure.
