Toen Eduard Koblmiller tijdens zijn succesvolle K6-expeditie in 1970 voet zette in de vallei, beschreef hij deze als een plek van "ongewone en primordiale schoonheid". De Nangma-vallei ziet eruit als een impressionistisch schilderij, gemaakt van extreme kleurcontrasten en abstracte lijnen die met een verbazingwekkende verticaliteit naar de hemel wijzen. De schoonheid van de vallei is bijna aandoenlijk en, in tegenstelling tot andere en veel bekendere plaatsen, liggen de basiskampen slechts op een intensieve dagwandeling van de weg.
Van kleine seizoensgebonden nederzettingen in de bovenste valleien die de fascinerende Balti-cultuur tonen, tot de oversteek van de met sneeuw bedekte Thallay La. Deze gemakkelijke en avontuurlijke tocht verbindt de twee koninkrijken op het dak van de wereld, namelijk Khaplu met Shigar. De tocht is opmerkelijk gevarieerd wat betreft het natuurlijke landschap, van het zand van de Indus vallei, via de "Alpine" lager gelegen vallei, tot de hoge sneeuw van de spectaculaire toppen rond de Thallay La.

Skardu to Khaplu: Drive to Khaplu, passing through small villages of Ghanche district to reach; en route, we will have short stops at the meeting point of Shayok & Indus Rivers, Thorgo Pari and visit Yugo. Enjoy traditional lunch at Yugo and a cultural walk in the streets of Yugo to witness village life and meet locals. Later in the late afternoon, we drive to Khaplu and check into the hotel with leisure time to visit the Khaplu fort museum and organic garden.

Tijdens de vakantie zal de groep drie nachten doorbrengen in Islamabad in een uitstekend standaard hotel. De groep verblijft ook twee nachten in een toeristenklasse hotel in Skardu en twee nachten in Khaplu. De accommodatie in elk van deze hotels is voor twee personen met en-suite faciliteiten. Tijdens de trektocht wordt zeven keer gekampeerd in een comfortabele tweepersoonstent. Als je alleen reist, word je gekoppeld aan een andere alleenreizende klant van hetzelfde geslacht. Het is mogelijk om tegen een meerprijs een eenpersoonstent te huren tijdens de trektocht. Extra hotelovernachtingen in Islamabad zijn ook mogelijk. In geval van annulering van de vlucht wordt de groep onderweg ondergebracht in een toeristenklasse hotel (de best beschikbare optie). De kamers zijn op basis van twin sharing, en de eenpersoonskamer is tegen meerprijs beschikbaar.

Het vliegveld van Skardu is afhankelijk van het weer. Omdat hoge bergen de vallei omringen, landen de plannen hier alleen bij goed zicht. De plannen vliegen wel vaker, maar afgelastingen kunnen voorkomen, en in die omstandigheden zullen we over de weg reizen.
