Taking the most picturesque roads, let us transport you back to England as it was before mechanisation when sheep farming and dry-stone walling dictated the way of life.

Explore global heritage sites and ride right up to some of England’s most iconic destinations, from the university city of Oxford and Churchill’s Blenheim Palace to the woolmarket town of Tetbury.

The Cotswolds is idyllic biking country, with this tour offering routes designed for cyclists of all abilities, shorter options and e-bikes available for guests who would prefer a gentler ride.

Tour program

Day 1

Oxford colleges and Moreton-in-Marsh

We meet you at Oxford railway station at 10.00am, where we begin with a walking tour of the university colleges and several other historic sites, before enjoying a relaxed lunch and transferring out of the city. We will make our way to our first hotel! In Moreton-in-Marsh, we will fit you up with your bikes and head out for a stunning introductory ride through the Cotswolds. In the evening, we settle down at the hotel in Moreton-in-Marsh and share our first dinner together as a group.

13miles – 700ft elevation

Start point

Oxford Railway Station (OXF), Park End St, Oxford, England OX1 1HS, United Kingdom

10:00

Winding our way through the breathtaking countryside for which the Cotswolds are so beloved, we cycle through Chipping Campden, famed for its thatch roofs and market town hall. We then have lunch at Broadway Tower, enjoying awe-inspiring views over 16 counties in England and Wales. Throughout the afternoon, we bike through some of the most well-known Cotswold towns and villages, including Kineton, the Slaughters and Bourton-on-the-Water, before returning to Moreton-in-Marsh for the evening.

37miles – 1800ft elevation

We cycle from the hotel to Blenheim Palace, Winston Churchill’s birthplace and a World Heritage Site. The morning’s ride is around 20 miles, taking us through idyllic rolling countryside. At Blenheim, we eat lunch overlooking the Capability Brown parklands and take some time to explore the historic Palace and the 2,000-acre estate. In the afternoon, we bike toward Burford, affectionately known as the ‘Gateway to the Cotswolds’. We spend the following two nights in Burford.

20miles – 1300ft elevation. Optional: 42miles – 2700ft elevation

Riding out from Burford, our route today winds along gentle undulating lanes to the village of Northleach, before we arrive in the small village of Bibury for lunch. Bibury Trout Farm is our location for lunch and there’s the option to enjoy a walk to the picturesque Arlington Row, thought to be one of the most photographed in the Cotswolds. Come the afternoon, we pedal onwards to Bampton, made famous as a filming backdrop for the smash-hit TV series Downton Abbey. With satisfying miles in our legs we turn for Burford for some well-earned refreshment and our second night stay in this quiet Cotswold town.

40miles – 1500ft elevation

As our time in the Cotswolds comes to a close, we revel in our last day’s ride from Burford to Tetbury, via a 2,000-year-old Roman road. Our route today passes Cirencester, known as the ‘Capital of Cotswolds’ – a place that was the second-largest Roman settlement after London. There’s plenty of time to savour the very best of the Cotswolds as we roll up and down its quiet valleys, passing through yet more gorgeous country villages. Sapperton is one of these and an ideal place to stop for lunch. From here, it’s time to pedal to Tetbury and our final hotel of the tour. Come the evening, we enjoy our last meal together as a group.

34miles – 1600ft elevation

Our tour ends after breakfast, when we help with your onward travel arrangements. Most of our guests travel from Kemble railway station, a short transfer from the hotel. Wherever your journey takes you next, our guides will be on hand to provide all the help you need.

End point

Kemble Railway Station (KEM), Windmill Hill, Cirencester, England GL7 6AW, United Kingdom
