From Krimml to Salzburg

Your cycling vacation starts in the picturesque village of Krimml, where you can visit the waterfalls after your arrival. The first stage takes you to Stuhlfelden in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park. On the way, you pass Mittersill with the National Park Worlds Museum.


Via Kaprun you reach Lake Zell and the tranquil Maria Alm. The towering village church with the Steinernes Meer in the background is the perfect photo motif, while the summer toboggan run on the Biberg is not just for children. Between Saalfelden and Unken, the Seisenbergklamm gorge awaits you as a scenic highlight before the last few kilometers of the cycle tour take you to the festival city of Salzburg.

The Krimml waterfalls: The roaring water falls 380 meters into the depths, making the Krimml Falls the largest in Europe. The natural spectacle that you should not miss at your starting point is correspondingly impressive. An approximately four-kilometre-long hiking trail leads along the waterfalls and offers magnificent views.

Attractions for young and old: in addition to the beautiful landscape, this route has plenty of fun and action up its sleeve. A dip in Lake Zell, the summer toboggan run on the Biberg or a visit to the Berger chocolate factory - there is guaranteed to be something for everyone. Stop at Hellbrunn Palace just outside Salzburg and enjoy the 400-year-old trick fountains.

The Mozart city of Salzburg: you have truly earned a delicious pastry at your destination, be it Salzburger Nockerl or an apple strudel. Afterwards, you will have enough energy to explore the world-famous old town, visit the House of Nature or climb up to Hohensalzburg Fortress.

The Tauern Cycle Path measures a total of 300 kilometers between Krimml and Passau, on this Eurobike cycle tour you cover around 150 kilometers of this distance. The route from Krimml to Salzburg is suitable for families and leisure cyclists who want to enjoy the countryside, culture and culinary delights as well as the sporting activity. Thanks to the picturesque valleys, you can expect a mostly flat route on the Tauern Cycle Path. The individual stages are between 25 and 35 kilometers long.

Day 1

Individual arrival to Krimml

Take a walk to the largest waterfalls in Europe today.


Hotel example: Klockerhaus

From the Krimml Waterfalls you go down to the Salzach. From the cycle path you can admire the snow-covered mountains. The valley gets wider and wider and you cycle comfortably over green meadows to Mittersill and Stuhlfelden. Since you are in the middle of the national park, you can also visit the National Park Worlds Museum here.


Hotel example: Flatscher

From Oberpinzgau we continue towards Mittelpinzgau. The area here is characterised by particularly lush flora and fauna. Authentic cuisine and genuine customs make this region particularly endearing. Once you arrive in Kaprun, a visit to the high mountain reservoirs is a special experience.

You should take a refreshing swim in Lake Zell. Via the castle village of Maishofen and Maria Alm with its famous pilgrimage church, you will soon reach your overnight accommodation in Saalfelden. The summer toboggan run on the Biberg is fun for all ages.

The cycle path along the Saalach takes you to the impressive Seisenbergklamm and the deep Lamprechtshöhle cave near Weißbach. Lofer is home to the famous Berger chocolate factory. Once you've had some refreshment, you can cycle a little further to the tranquil town of Unken.

The cycle path continues along the Saalach to the small German corner. The next sweet temptation awaits you here in Bad Reichenhall at the Reber confectionery. But you'll definitely work off the many calories by the time you get to Salzburg. The water features in Hellbrunn Palace will delight your children. Also plan time for a visit to Mozart's birthplace.
