Viewed from a distance, everything is green and sometimes so dense that no ray of light penetrates into the steaming primeval forests of national parks. But those who enter will discover a paradise full of living beings and plants from the last day of creation, when all the remaining colors had to be consumed. The final in the metropolis of San José looks like a rehab. At least with plenty of pre-Columbian gold. So much consolation must be.

Tour program

Day 1

Let it go!

Ready for the Costa Rica adventure? You fly to San José, the lively capital of Costa Rica. After landing, your tour guide will be waiting for you full of anticipation to introduce you to the country over the next two weeks.

Meals
A light evening snack is included in the price.

Accommodation
Hotel Bougainvillea
The Hotel Bougainvillea, with its spacious rooms, is located just outside San José. It is surrounded by a lush tropical garden, where you can relax on a walk or take a dip in the swimming pool. From the restaurant or the bar with its integrated fireplace, you can look directly into this little paradise.

Notes
The driving distance is approx. 20 km.
After breakfast, we set off to explore the capital of Costa Rica. At the Mercado Central, the central market. San José, you will gain an insight into the everyday life of the Ticos, as the inhabitants of Costa Rica often call themselves. You walk from the National Theater to the central market and visit one of the capital's most important museums, the Gold Museum. Afterwards, it continues in a colorful way. Whether red-eyed tree frogs or poison dart frogs, in Frogs Heaven they hop happily from tree to tree and leaf to leaf. It's almost worth putting a magnifying glass in your luggage for the cute glass frogs. Of course, Costa Rica is also the land of volcanoes and so you continue on to a particularly impressive one: the Arenal. There is an enormous network of naturally flowing thermal springs here. The pool at your accommodation is also fed by the volcanic water. If that's not a great start!

Catering
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included today.

Where to stay
Arenal Springs Resort & Spa
The Arenal Springs Resort & Spa is located at the foot of the volcano of the same name and welcomes you with a relaxed atmosphere, large rooms and a spacious garden, where hammocks and loungers with fantastic views of the landscape beckon. Two pools invite you to refresh yourself, and if you prefer it cozy, there is also a hot option.

Notes
The route covers approx. 160 km.
You will explore the beautiful Monteverde Orchid Garden, which is home to orchids so small that they can only be seen with a magnifying glass. You then leave the cloud forest and drive along the Pacific coast to the popular seaside resort of Manuel Antonio. On the way, you will pass the Rio Tárcoles, where crocodiles often sunbathe lazily on the numerous sandbanks. With a bit of luck, you might even see them today.

Meals
Breakfast and dinner are included in the price.

Where to stay
Parador Resort & Spa
The Parador Resort & Spa in Punta Quepos is located very close to the famous Manuel Antonio National Park. The location on a hill in the middle of the rainforest offers you a fantastic view of the bay of Manuel Antonio. The resort is only a 15-minute walk from Playa Biesanz, a small beach that seems like an insider tip, which you can reach via a jungle path. There are also regular shuttle buses to the equally beautiful main beach of Manuel Antonio. The eco-hotel participates in various programs for environmentally friendly tourism and ensures that recycling, water and energy conservation and the preservation of Costa Rica's rich natural resources are supported.

Notes
The route covers approx. 190 km.
Today you drive into the mountains to the Savegre Valley, which is home to the largest variety of endemic plant species in the whole of Central America. Nearby is the Cerro de la Muerte, the mountain of death. In earlier times, it was notorious, because when there were no cars, many people did not survive the march over the mountain. In the afternoon, you will go on a short hike into the old mountain oak forests of the region.

Catering
The included meals consist of breakfast and dinner.

Accommodation
Trogon Lodge
Trogon Lodge at the foot of the 3,491-metre-high Cerro de la Muerte is located in an almost untouched valley. Countless birds live in the surrounding forests and the largest variety of endemic plant species in Central America can be found here. The rooms are relatively simple, but tastefully furnished. Lots of wood and fresh colors dominate the picture. As it can get quite cold here in the evenings, the hotel team will also put a hot water bottle in your bed. You can watch life in the nature park from the restaurant terrace.

Notes
The driving distance is approx. 140 km.
It can get quite chilly in the mountains at night. However, your accommodation will provide you with radiant heaters and - in addition to the blankets already in your room - blankets, which you can obtain from reception.
Another impressive volcano awaits us today: Irazú. With its height of around 3,400 meters, it is the highest volcano in Costa Rica. From its peak, you can even see the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean on a clear day. Next, a particularly sweet experience awaits you. At the Nortico Cacao Farm, you will learn how to prepare the "food of the gods". From the ground up. Of course, there will be some theory lessons first, but then you'll get to try your hand at making chocolate from freshly roasted cocoa beans.

Catering
The included meals consist of breakfast.

Accommodation
Casa Turire
Casa Turire is a manor house in the middle of the green Turrialba region. Even the approach through the palm avenue of the huge park with its vegetable gardens will put a smile on your face. Each of the spacious rooms with balcony has been lovingly furnished. The pool is a wonderful place to relax, the restaurant serves local dishes and the spa offers treatments using herbs from the hotel garden.

Notes
The driving distance is approx. 170 km.
From Tortuguero National Park we return to San José. In the afternoon, we arrive at the idyllic hotel with its extensive garden. Here you have some time to freshen up before we set off for our farewell dinner together in the early evening. Enjoy the delicious meal and review the wonderful experiences together before you say goodbye to your tour guide with a heavy heart.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included today.
