Transylvanian Treasures: Castles, Legends, and Medieval Marvels

Our journey begins in Bucharest, and after about 2 hours, we’ll arrive in Sinaia, home to the magnificent Peles Castle. This architectural masterpiece of German Neo-Renaissance design is often regarded as one of the most beautiful castles in Europe.

From there, we’ll travel through the breathtaking Carpathian Mountains to reach our next destination: Bran Castle. Perched dramatically on a 200-foot-high cliff and surrounded by an aura of mystery and legend, Bran Castle is famous for its imposing towers and turrets, as well as its connection to the myth of Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Next, we’ll explore the medieval city of Brașov, home to one of Europe’s narrowest streets, Rope Street (Strada Sforii). Don’t miss a visit to the Black Church (Biserica Neagră), the largest Gothic church in Romania. Despite its ominous name, the Black Church is an architectural gem with a fascinating history.

You will spend the night in the charming city of Brașov, ready to continue your adventure the next day.

After breakfast, we’ll head to the Hartman Fortified Church, a remarkably well-preserved UNESCO World Heritage Site that you'll have the chance to explore. From there, we’ll continue to the enchanting medieval city of Sighișoara. Known as one of the most beautiful and best-preserved medieval towns in Europe, Sighișoara is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This 16th-century treasure, with its nine towers, cobbled streets, burgher houses, and ornate churches, rivals the old-world charm of Prague and Vienna.

Key landmarks include the iconic Clock Tower, the birthplace of Vlad Dracula (Vlad the Impaler), the Church on the Hill, with its 500-year-old frescoes, and the Dominican Monastery Church, renowned for its Transylvanian Renaissance altarpiece, baroque pulpit, and intricate Oriental carpets. These are just a few of the highlights you won’t want to miss in Sighișoara.

In the evening, we’ll return to Brașov, where you’ll spend the night.

We will depart in the morning and make our way to the Unirea Salt Mine, the largest salt mine in Europe. Located in Slănic Prahova, it is not only one of Romania’s most significant therapeutic and climatic resorts but also a unique site in Europe. The mine features 14 trapezoid-shaped chambers, with natural ventilation and a constant temperature of 12°C year-round. The air inside maintains a humidity of around 50% and is rich in sodium ions, which have remarkable therapeutic and preventative effects for respiratory issues and conditions.

In addition to its healing properties, the salt mine offers a range of recreational activities, including playgrounds, a sports area, billiard tables, and a bar. After exploring the mine, we will return to Bucharest, concluding our journey.
