Itinerary
The Annual 25th Golden eagle festival takes place in Bayan-Olgii province on the 30th of September and 1st of October. Discover Altai Travel offers you a best-planned tour itinerary for late September. The tour includes the main highlights of western Mongolia and attended the annual Golden Eagle Festival. It is an all-included package tour with everything is taken care of in advance. During the trip, we will drive an off-road Land Cruiser or Russian Van. Due to we offer a private tour, the tour start date is fixable depending on the domestic flight schedules. If you arrive in Ulaanbaatar couples' day before the scheduled date it is absolutely OK. You can take a city tour and visit Terelj National Park. Please let us know your arrival details in advance. The tour will be started upon your arrive in Bayan-Olgii Province and ends on dropping you back to the airport. The support team includes experienced drivers and English-speaking tour guides. In western Mongolia, you can visit the nomadic eagle hunter's family and be a part of nomadic life. Western Mongolia is famous for its gorgeous Altai Mountains and home for eagle hunters. Every year on first weekends of October they celebrate the opening ceremony of eagle hunting season and more than hundred eagle hunters join the competition. Here you can enjoy a lot of nomadic horse games as Tyin Ilu, Kokbar, and Kyz Huu. It is one of the ancient festivals in central Asia. Tour includes eat & drink. Day 2
Real Eagle hunting
Today you have an opportunity to explore more about their ancient cultures which are based on Islam and a bit of Shamanism. The eagle hunter will demonstrate how he trains his eagle. Please feel free to photo-shooting and filming. After having breakfast go for real eagle hunting by horseback. Be a part of ancient hunting traditions with golden eagles. If we are lucky enough we can witness how the sky lord catches the fox or rabbit.
Day 3
Golden Eagle Festival
Today is the first day of the eagle festival where you can enjoy the opening ceremony and parade. Over a hundred eagle hunters all over the province join the main competition of the year. Also, you can enjoy a nomadic horse game, traditional folk concert, and camel race. Our English –speaking tour guides will explain the meaning of the games and be around you during the festival. Our Discover Altai Team will set our own kitchen tent where you can have a hot tea or coffee anytime you want.
Day 4
Golden Eagle Festival
On the second day of the festival, you can enjoy the final of the games and awarding ceremony. There will be a folk concert in the local theatre.
Day 5
Visit another eagle hunter's family
Hunting with eagles are practiced for millenniums in central Asia which is confirmed by ancient petroglyphs in our region. The art of eagle hunting was passed down from father to son. Nowadays there are over two hundred eagle hunters in western Mongolia and the main reason why people in this area could keep such an ancient tradition is the nomadic way of living and the open space to hunt. Those two are the main reasons that we are having such amazing traditional hunting. Nomadic Kazakh people are very friendly and you always feel free to talk and explore their cultures.
Day 6
Horseback trekking
Today we will be horseback trekking to the mountains where you can enjoy the gorgeous views of the Altai Mountains. If you are not experienced in horse riding or it is your first time, no worries Mongolia is the best place to try it. By the way, interesting fact about Mongolia. It is the only country where the horses are more than the population. Mongolian horses are smaller but very strong, and that is one of the reasons for the Great Mongolian Empire. Enjoy your horseback trekking.
Day 7
Fly back to UB
Thank you for coming! Today we will drop you at the airport where you will catch a domestic flight to Ulaanbaatar. Have a nice trip!

The local nomads also have a large number of traditions that have been passed down through the generations that pertain to their living. Please respect these traditions and try not to hurt their feelings.
Cancellations Policy:
Discover Altai team has a very easy and reasonable cancellation policy. Please alert us to a cancellation as early as possible.
- Cancellation more than a month before departure will result in payment of 300 USD reimbursements.
- Cancellation less than a month before departure will result in payment of 600 USD reimbursements.
- And the rest of the payment will be refunded
