Itinerary

Embark on an 8-day river cruise along the enchanting Douro River, and discover the beauty and charm of the Douro Valley. As you sail along the river, you will be surrounded by magnificent landscapes, quiet villages, and extensive vineyards that stretch along both sides of the river.

The Douro Valley is the cradle of Port wine, and you will have the opportunity to discover the unique qualities and flavors of each variety, including vintage, tawny, and ruby.

As you explore the Douro Valley, you will discover the rich history of the region, including the wooden boats known as rabelos, which were used to transport barrels of port wine down the Douro River to the wineries of Vila Nova de Gaia. Today, these historic boats can still be seen docked in the city of Oporto, attracting tourists from around the world.

Throughout your 8-day river cruise, you will have the opportunity to explore the picturesque countryside, visit charming villages and towns, and enjoy the breathtaking vistas of the Douro Valley. You can take part in guided tours, visit local markets, and experience the unique culture and traditions of the region.

Whether you are a wine lover or simply looking for a unique travel experience, a river cruise along the Douro Valley is an unforgettable journey that will leave you with lasting memories of this enchanting region of Portugal.

Day 2

Pinhao

Full board on board.

Spend the morning sailing and admiring the stunning views of the Douro Valley. At midday, we arrive in Régua. Founded in 1756, the Royal Wine Company of the Douro established the world's first demarcated wine region here. The terraced vineyards on the riverbanks offer beautiful panoramas, best viewed from viewpoints like São Leonardo de Galafura and Santo António do Loureiro. Nearby, the Caldas de Moledo thermal spa offers a relaxing setting with its own pier.

In the afternoon, we reach Pinhão, the heart of the Douro Wine Region and home to many famous Port wine estates (Quintas). Don't miss the railway station, built in the late 19th century, featuring interior walls covered in traditional tile panels (azulejos).

Optional: Visit to a Quinta in Avessada with dinner.

Overnight stay in town. Dinner and night on board

Day 3

Pocinho and Vega de Terron

Full board on board.

In the morning, we dock at Pocinho, a small northern village known as the starting point of the Douro Railway Line. This scenic route is unique because the tracks are laid just meters from the river water.

In the afternoon, we arrive at the Vega de Terrón pier, located where the Águeda River meets the Douro. This former border pier was rebuilt for tourism and commerce at the end of the 20th century. It sits within the Arribes del Duero Natural Park (Salamanca province). This was once the final rail stop before the border, connecting to the Atlantic via Porto. Today, the line is closed and serves as the "Arribes Green Trail."

Optional: Excursion to Castelo Rodrigo.

Overnight stay in town. Dinner and night on board.

Day 4

Vega de Terron (od. Barca D’Alva)

Full board on board.

A small village that served for a century as the link between the Salamanca and Porto railway lines. An iron bridge over the Águeda River once allowed trains to cross between Spain and Portugal. Barca d’Alva is nestled within the International Douro Natural Park, featuring impressive gorges that form the natural border between the two countries.

Optional: Excursion to Salamanca with lunch.

Overnight stay in town. Night on board.

Day 5

Regua

Full board on board.

During the morning, enjoy the navigation and the marvelous views of the valley. At midday, we return to Pinhão to further enjoy the valley's premier wineries.

INCLUDED: Wine tasting at a quinta

Optional: Visit to Quinta do Tedo and the Douro Museum.

In the early afternoon, we arrive back in Régua. Overnight stay in town. Dinner and night on board.

Day 6

Douro de Marina

Full board on board.

Early departure from Régua toward Porto. After a journey through enchanting landscapes, we arrive at our destination just after lunch.

Once in Porto, you will have the entire afternoon free to explore. From its fascinating architecture to its picturesque cobbled streets, every corner is full of beauty and history. Stroll along the Douro, visit iconic vineyards, or enjoy the lively atmosphere of the local plazas. Overnight stay in town. Dinner and night on board.

Day 7

Douro Marina

Full board on board.

Spend the morning at Douro Marina, the nautical gateway to the Douro and Northern Portugal, designed with a focus on sport, leisure, and respect for nature. There are local restaurants and terraces nearby to enjoy the river views.

Porto is a joy to behold—a city that captivates with its steep hills and "faded grandeur" atmosphere. The Ribeira district offers incredible views of the boats passing under the Dom Luís I Bridge, an iron masterpiece designed by a close collaborator of Gustave Eiffel.

INCLUDED: Panoramic tour of Porto. Discover the vibrant Old Town, Ribeira, and the iconic Port wine cellars.

Overnight stay in town. Dinner and night on board.
