Blue City – Volubilis / Meknes – Fes
After breakfast at your hotel, we set off for Ouarzazate, traveling through Volubilis and Meknes. Our first stop is Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage site established in the 40s BC. It is one of the best-preserved monuments from the Roman era in North Africa, featuring expansive ruins scattered over beautiful green fields. The site boasts stunning facilities, palaces, and baths, all adorned with magnificent mosaics. Next, we visit Meknes, one of Morocco's imperial cities. After a short city tour, we will take a lunch break before heading to Fez for an overnight stay.
Visit of Fes
After breakfast at your hotel, we will head to Rabat, Morocco’s capital and one of the kingdom's imperial cities. This city is a major destination for many tourists. In Rabat, we will visit the Oudaya Kasbah, the old Medina, Chellah, and the Hassan Tower.
Next, we will travel to Volubilis, approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes from Rabat. Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage site founded in the 40s BC, is an excellent example of Roman architecture in North Africa. The expansive ruins lie across beautiful green meadows and feature splendid administrative buildings, palaces, and baths adorned with fine mosaics.
After exploring Volubilis, we will proceed to Meknes, another imperial city. Here, we will have a brief city tour and a lunch break before heading to Fez for an overnight stay.
Fes to desert
Today, we depart for the desert. After breakfast, we check out and head towards Merzouga. Though the drive is around 7 hours, the changing landscapes will make the time pass quickly.
We will make a brief stop in Ifrane, known for its European-like nature and climate, parks with lakes and chalets, ski resort, and abundance of snow during the winter. This town is often referred to as the "Switzerland of Morocco."
Near Ifrane, we will have the opportunity to admire the majestic Atlas cedars and encounter the friendly wild monkeys on the way to Azrou. The monkeys are amicable and enjoy being fed. We will stop for lunch in Midelt.
As we continue, our journey will take us through the gorge and valley of the Ziz River. As we approach Er-Rachidia, the scenery will gradually transform into a desert landscape.
We will spend the night in Merzouga.
Desert to Dades
On the fifth day of our 9-Day Tour from Tangier, we will rise early to witness the awe-inspiring and peaceful sunrise over the sand dunes, a moment sure to be one of the most memorable of your time in Morocco.
After breakfast, we will leave the desert and head to the village of Merzouga before proceeding to Dades. On the way, we will visit Rissani, home to "The Fossil Factory," where you can see the abundance of fossils found in this region.
After about three hours, we will take a break for a panoramic photo near the picturesque town of Tinghir, nestled in the midst of a vast palm oasis. Following this, we will visit the renowned Todra Gorge, where we will walk along the gorge and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
Our journey will then continue through the charming village of Dades, where we will spend the night.
Dades to Marrakech
On the sixth day of your 9-Day Tour from Tangier, we will make a short drive to the Dades Gorges and then move on to Ouarzazate. Our route will take us through Mgouna, known for its annual Rose Festival, and then proceed to the Skoura Oasis, a lush palm oasis nourished by several streams.
Afterward, we will travel to Ouarzazate, just a 30-minute ride from Skoura. Known as the "Moroccan Hollywood," Ouarzazate has been the filming location for many famous historical films. Here, we can visit Kasbah Taourirt, the Cinema Museum, and the Atlas Film Studios.
Next, we will drive to Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and popular filming location, notably for Game of Thrones. From here, we will proceed to Marrakech, traversing the highest Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass, which stands at an elevation of 2,260 meters. This 3.5 to 4-hour drive offers stunning views of green river valleys, adobe villages, and ancient kasbah ruins, with photo stops along the way.
Upon arrival in Marrakech, you can relax at the hotel and enjoy some free time.
Visit of Marrakech
Our day will begin with a delightful breakfast, followed by a full day dedicated to exploring the historic city of Marrakech. As one of Morocco's former royal capitals, Marrakech boasts numerous museums and architectural monuments dating back to various Moroccan dynasties. Each monument in the city is a masterpiece of art.
Throughout the day, we will marvel at the majestic architecture of the Koutoubia Mosque, explore the olive plantations surrounding the Menara Gardens, visit the tombs of the Saadi sultans, and admire the exquisite palace architecture of the Bahia Palace and El Badi Palace. We will also stroll through the serene Majorelle Gardens.
After lunch, we will immerse ourselves in the vibrant and bustling markets of Morocco, including a visit to the legendary Jemaa El Fna square. This lively square hosts a spectacle of snake charmers, mystics, fortune-tellers, fruit and spice merchants, and provides a fascinating window into cultures from around the world.
Exploration of Essaouira
Venturing off the beaten track, the seaside enchantment of Essaouira is just a 3-hour drive from Marrakech. The medina is a significant part of the area's historical charm, surrounded by ancient ramparts and offering sweeping views of the vast ocean below. The serene atmosphere will inspire reflection, encouraging you to appreciate the beauty of life.
