Tour program

Day 1

Discover Split and Emperor Diocletian's Palace

Welcome to Split, one of the oldest cities on the Mediterranean that holds valuable masterpieces from the late antiquity. Your first day starts with a briefing followed by a ride on Marjan hill, a unique forest area with beautiful roads for cycling. Those of you who still have enough energy after the ride, might choose to cycle some extra miles that we have prepared to explore the surroundings of Split. In the evening stroll down the alleys of Diocletian's Palace, dance on Peristil square and enjoy some great Mediterranean food. Don't forget to to visit the fish market and green market as it is a great way to start the morning!

Destinations visited: Split, Marjan hill, Diocletian’s Palace

Accommodation: Split

Today you travel with the ferry from Split to the remote island of Vis, the furthest of the main central Dalmatian islands that was founded by Dionysius of Syracuse and the Greeks as their colony under the name Issa in the 4th century BC.

Most of the island was closed for foreign visitors until 1989 due to the fact that it was an important Yugoslav military base. Even today, Vis is still mysterious and the traditional and authentic way of island lifestyle has remained intact. In the afternoon cycle to the east side of the island and discover pebble and sandy beaches as well as scenic vineyards before returning to the town of Vis. In the evening, you can take a relaxing walk along the waterfront or sit for a glass of wine and taste the island's simple cuisine that has a unique spirit and flavor.

Choose one of the options (or all) on today’s agenda:  cycle the whole island of Vis, take an optional trip to the Blue Cave on the small island Biševo, take a paddle board tour to the Green Cave or swim and snorkel on the eastern side of the island.

We definitely suggest a loop bike ride passing through Komiža, the authentic fishermen village located in the southwest of the island. You will enjoy scenic rides on quiet roads along Plisko polje – a plain covered with vineyards of Vugava. Feel free to take detours and explore the airplane runway in Plisko polje that the Allies used in WW II, secret coves and sandy beaches on the east side of the island and taste some of the freshest seafood available.

Enjoy a scenic boat transfer to your next island – Hvar. After you disembark in the port of Hvar town, walk to the Renaissance town square, where we suggest to have a coffee in one of the many cafés and become part of its vibrant atmosphere. Today’s ride starts with a climb along sleepy villages and the famous lavender fields of Hvar.  Great views and fascinating stone pile walls will accompany you during the climb. Once you descend to the north side of the island, cycle to Jelsa, a fishermen village where you spend the night.

Choose a scenic and easier bike ride along Ager or climb and go for a longer ride to the very east of the island. If you choose the shorter ride, you will pedal to Stari Grad, the ancient Greek colony dating back to 4th century BC. Cycle next to numerous charming villages and hamlets, lavender fields and olive groves located inside the UNESCO preserved agricultural plain called Ager. Enjoy a refreshing dip in one of the numerous bays you will pedal by during your bike ride.

A short boat transfer will take you to the island Brač. For today’s ride we suggest a short loop to Murvica, an eco-village surrounded by stunning beaches with a turquoise sea color and Plavac Mali vineyards. A longer and more challenging ride is also possible, but make sure to leave some time in the afternoon to enjoy the beautiful beach Zlatni rat (Golden Horn), one of the most photographed beaches in Croatia.

Besides its great beaches, island Brač has a long and treasured tradition in stone excavation and stone masonry.  Parts of the White House in Washington and Diocletian’s Palace in Split are just some of the sites constructed with the famous Brač stone.
