We will learn about Reykjavík’s fascinating history and stop by its many landmarks such as the popular church of Hallgrímskirkja, The University campus, and Reykjavík’s charming harbour where we get to observe the colourful fishing vessels, the beautiful mountain backdrop, and the spectacular concert hall and conference centre of Harpan. We will also embark on a gastronomic journey between hidden gems where delicious treats await. Here we will learn about the nation’s history and its democratic traditions while enjoying the surrounding natural beauty that typifies the Icelandic landscape. Day 3

THE GOLDEN CIRCLE: GEOTHERMAL ENERGY & ICELANDIC HORSES

Begin the day at Kerið, one of Iceland’s most stunning volcanic craters. Featuring a perfectly round volcanic caldera with aquamarine water at the bottom, this picturesque crater is a geological wonder due to its vibrant red sediments and striking beauty. We continue to Friðheimar, an impressive greenhouse complex showcasing a tomato farm, a restaurant, a winery, and Icelandic horse stables. Learn about Iceland’s use of geothermal energy in agriculture and meet face-to-face with Iceland’s fluffiest and friendliest natives, the Icelandic horse. Afterwards we drive to the magnificent Gullfoss, also known as the “Golden Falls”. In an incredible show of the sheer power of nature, enjoy the view of the falling waters over a 32-meter plunge against the backdrop of dramatic rock formations and mist. Next, we stop at the exciting Geysir, where we will witness the naturally occurring eruption of bubbling water 15-20 meters up in the air. Conclude the day with a Geothermal tasting experience, in which you’ll get to taste rye bread freshly baked in nearby hot springs accompanied by butter, eggs, and herring.  After a day full of excitement, we arrive at our accommodation in Geysir where we will spend the next three nights.

While we learn about the past of the area, enjoy an exciting walk in a dramatic rift valley formed by the separation of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Home to Öxarárfoss waterfall and the beautiful Þingvallavatn lake with its surrounding lush green meadows, the park promises great photo opportunities. We continue to Hvammsvík Natural Hot Springs for a relaxing and invigorating bath, where we relish an uninterrupted view of the Fjord and the Atlantic Ocean while soaking in its warm and therapeutic waters. For our last stop of the day, we head to Efstidalur, a family-owned farm where a presentation on Icelandic dairy farming and food tasting awaits you. Savor and sample delicious skyr, feta cheese, whey, and Ice cream while meeting the family that produces them. In the evening we return to Geysir for the night.

Day 5

GORGEOUS SOUTH COAST

This morning venture to the South Shore of Iceland and its wonders. We begin at the charming Skógar Folk Museum that features over 15.000 artifacts in an impressive collection encompassing fishing, farming, and cultural traditions. Later get prepared to be blown away by the forces of nature in the world’s only live lava show, where you will get up close to real molten lava and feel its incredible heat at approximately 1100°C (2000°F). After an exhilarating spectacle, continue to the stunning jet-black sands of Reynisfjara beach and its impressive hexagonal basalt columns. Take some time to explore the otherworldly landscape, with its hectic bird colonies, sea caves, and view of the imposing Reynisdrangar Sea Stacks in the North Atlantic Ocean. Next, we stop at the renown Skógafoss waterfall. Standing at about 60 meters tall this mesmerizing waterfall is an imposing sight. Delight in the spectacle of its falling waters, which often produce vibrant rainbows amidst a scenery of lush green moss and dramatic cliffs. Our final stop for the day will be the famous Seljalandsfoss waterfall. This tall and slender waterfall allows visitors to fully encircle it by following a slick and wet trail right behind its plunging waters. After taking in the sight and photographing this natural marvel, we return to Geysir for a well-deserved rest.

Start the day at the quaint town of Selfoss for a food and history tour, where we will embark in a unique journey through Iceland’s past and culinary traditions. Next, we head to the captivating and geologically abundant Reykjanes Peninsula. Due to its high level of volcanic activity, the peninsula has a unique landscape with numerous features like dramatic fissures, bubbling hot springs, and extensive lava fields. Our first stop is at Gunnuhver, a geothermal area bursting with boiling mud pools, fumaroles, and vibrant colors from surrounding rocks and minerals that give it an otherworldly atmosphere. We continue to Iceland’s oldest lighthouse, Reykjanesviti. Perched on a rocky promontory, this enchanting monument to Iceland’s seafaring heritage is a picture-perfect location to capture scenic vistas of the coast. Slightly Northwards, we stop at the Bridge Between Continents, which lies on one of the world’s largest plate boundaries, that between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Lastly, we end the day at the iconic Blue Lagoon. This geothermal spa is renowned for its strikingly vivid blue-turquoise and mineral-rich waters.
