Tour program

Day 1

Wye Valley - Tintern Abbey - Broadway - Stratford-upon-Avon

Departing Bristol, your journey begins with a scenic drive through what is considered the birthplace of British tourism and the birthplace of the industrial revolution. We’re talking about Wye Valley, of course, which is dubbed an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

You’ll love the views of this region as we head towards Tintern Abbey on the banks of River Wye. There’s some fascinating history behind this now-roofless national icon which was founded in 1131. Afterwards you make your way to the market town of Ross-on-Wye where you have free time to explore and grab a bite to eat.

Then it’s time to head to Broadway. No, we’re not talking about seeing a stage production, we’re talking about the picturesque village in the Cotswolds. This is a great time for a spot of shopping, or simply wander and enjoy the town before heading to Stratford-upon-Avon, your base for the night. You arrive in the birthplace of Shakespeare in the mid-afternoon so there’s still some time to explore and sort yourself out for dinner.

You’re spoilt for choice in Stratford-upon-Avon. Perhaps you’ll explore the Schoolroom and Guildhall, where Shakespeare was first inspired by literature and theatre. Or perhaps you’ll visit his childhood home and hear tales of his family life.

Day 2

Blenheim - Oxford - Bristol

What a way to wake up – surrounded by beautiful England. And today we continue our exploration of some of its finest spots. We hop back on the bus and head for Blenheim Palace. As one of England’s largest stately homes (and a UNESCO World Heritage Site), we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to show it off just a little bit.

With 18th-century roots, Blenheim is famously known as the birthplace of Winston Churchill. But beyond its fascinating history and impressive guestlist, Blenheim is a rare example of English Baroque architecture, with lavish interiors and an exhibition celebrating the life of Churchill. And surrounding all of that are its serene gardens which you can enjoy as much as the palace during your visit.

This is our lunch stop for the day and Blenheim is a world of its own, with plenty of options for you to choose from – cafes, restaurants, snack shacks, or even grabbing a snack and finding yourself a spot in the lovely gardens.

You continue onto Oxford, your main stop for the day. Famously known for its university, the city of Oxford has an interesting history and plenty of things to do and see. You can learn about some of it at the Ashmolean Museum, Britain’s oldest public museum. If museums aren’t your thing, there’s always Oxford Castle & Prison, a tour of some of the colleges around town, and even several Harry Potter locations to spot.

Enjoy a relaxing drive back through some of England’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the perfect way to end your day as you head to Bristol where your tour ends in the early evening.

What should I expect from a B&B?

B&Bs are traditionally small family owned and run properties offering a handful of guest rooms. They are usually residential properties, so they tend to be located on the outskirts of towns and you should be prepared for a 20-30 minute walk to local facilities like pubs and restaurants.

It’s unusual for a B&B to offer any additional services like concierge, porterage, evening meals or room-service. Wi-fi is usually, but not always available and it’s worth bearing in mind that access can be unreliable in more remote locations.

If you have difficulty with stairs, please request a ground-floor room as lifts will not be available in this type of property.

What should I expect from a Hotel?

Hotels vary in size but tend to be larger properties run by a team of staff. They usually have a relatively central location but may be up to a 20-30 minute walk from local facilities. They are often housed in traditional old buildings and bathrooms are always for private use and are typically en-suite.

The services and facilities offered by hotels varies considerably so you should make a special request at the time of booking if you expect anything specific such as concierge, porterage, bar, restaurant, room service etc. Wi-fi may only be available in communal areas and access can be unreliable in remote locations.

If you have difficulty with stairs, please let us know so that we can either book a ground floor room or a hotel with lift access, if available.
