Day 1

Day Itinerary

You will be collected between 08:00 and 08:45 from your hotel in Windhoek. We will then start our tour heading into the Kalahari Desert.

The Kalahari is a fossil desert, not a true desert as it receives too much rain. Its enchanting landscape is made up of small red dunes, golden grass and deep blue skies. It stretches across 7 countries, including Namibia, South Africa and Botswana.

Our lodge is strategically situated in the centre of the Kalahari in an area peppered with Camelthorn trees. It is built with thatch and blessed with a staggering stone pool which attracts the occasional Oryx. Accommodation is in rondavel-style thatched huts which look out over the captivating landscape of the desert.

In the afternoon you will enjoy a sundowner drive with the lodge to experience this magical place and spot some of the animals which live here, including several variety of antelope and zebra.

Day 2

Day Itinerary

After breakfast we will depart for Sossusvlei. We will drive through the Khomas Hochland and down the escarpment via one of the scenic mountain passes into the Namib Desert. This journey will take about 4-5 hours depending on the number of stops for photographs. Dinner and accommodation will be at one of the best lodges in the area perfectly situated to explore the surrounding desert and its attractions.

Day 3

Day Itinerary

We make an early start so as to catch the soft light of sunrise over the desert. In the cool of the morning we take a walk through the desert with a good chance of seeing gemsbok, springbok and ostrich.

We spend the morning in and around Sossusvlei. This iconic landscape is made up of white plains and red dunes which tower majestically against a deep blue sky and are among the highest in the world. We will visit the picturesque Dead Vlei. This white clay pan lies between towering orange dunes and is dotted with the skeletal remains of hundreds of dead camelthorn trees, making it a striking vista and photographer's dream. We will stop at the famous Dune 45, a beautiful star dune which reaches over 170 meters in height. Those who feel fit enough to climb the dune will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding Namibian desert. We will have lunch at Sossusvlei Lodge.

As the day cools down we will enjoy a short excursion to Sesriem Canyon before heading back to our lodge.

Day 4

Day Itinerary

Namibia is a land of contrasts. Today we will move from desert to sea, crossing the Tropic of Capricorn and traversing the Gaub and Kuiseb passes. As we climb out the dry river bed at the bottom of Kuiseb Canyon, a spectacular desert landscape unfolds before us. We will stop over in Walvis Bay to visit the lagoon. The Walvis Bay lagoon is is one of the richest and most important wetlands in southern Africa. It is home to many water birds including Great and Lesser flamingos, Damara terns, pelicans and avocets. We will also visit the salt works. We continue to Swakopmund along the scenic coastal road, with dunes on one side and the cold Atlantic on the other side of the road.

Dinner will be at a local restaurant in Swakopmund.

Day 5

Day Itinerary

Swakopmund is a charming seaside town characterized by German colonial architecture, palm-lined streets, great restaurants, plenty of shops and beautiful beaches. Today, you will be free to explore. The town offers plenty to do including a good museum and aquarium. Various optional activities can also be arranged. These include a boat tour (with oysters and champagne), scenic flights and micro-light flights over the desert, fishing trips (either from the beach or a boat), desert tours, quad-biking in the desert, sandboarding and skydiving. Your guide will discuss all your options and offer to make pre-bookings. Note that all extra activities in Swakopmund are subject to availability and are made at the client's own risk and expense.

Dinner is at the client's own expense today.

Day 6

Day Itinerary

Today we head to Damaraland along the Skeleton Coast. We will stop at the vast seal colony at Cape Cross, north of Swakopmund. Here you are able to get up close to thousands of wild Cape fur seals and observe them in their natural environment.

We continue to the small town of Uis. Uis is an old mining town and one of the best places to buy semi-precious stones for which Namibia is famous. Here rough amethyst, tourmaline and other stones can be found at bargain prices.

We pass by the Brandberg, the highest mountain in Namibia, and arrive in Twyfelfontein in the afternoon.

Day 7

Palmwag Lodge, Palmwag

Day Itinerary

This morning we will visit the Twyfelfontein UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring one of the largest and most important concentrations of rock art in Africa. Visitors can view some 2500 Stone Age rock engravings at 17 rock art sites. There are an additional 13 sites displaying rock paintings.

We will travel to Palmwag, passing by the village of Bersig. We will join local trackers from the Torra Conservancy on an afternoon desert rhino tour, then continue to the lodge.

Palmwag Lodge is situated in the Palmwag Concession in northern Damaraland. This part of the world is blessed with table mountains and spectacular scenery. Abundant wildlife such as mountain zebra, kudu, springbok, giraffe, lion, desert adapted elephant, the endangered black rhino and many other species occur here. Dinner will be served at the lodge.

Day 8

Etosha Safari Lodge Gondwana Collection Namibia, Etosha South

Day Itinerary

Today we will continue towards the Etosha National Park passing by Kamanjab. We will stop at the Otjikandero Himba Orphanage Village. The Himba are one of the last tribes in Africa living strictly within their tradition. We will have the opportunity to see them in their natural environment as well as observe their culture and gain an in depth insight into their traditional way of life.

We will then continue to our lodge just outside the south gate of Etosha. If time allows, we will enjoy an afternoon game drive inside the park and return back just before sunset.

The Etosha National Park is home to over 100 mammal species, 340 bird species and 110 reptile species. Larger mammals include lion, elephant, leopard, giraffe, cheetah, hyena, springbok, zebra and eland. Animals, particularly during the dry season, are dependent on the many waterholes found in the park, and these serve as great places for game viewing. Vegetation in the park is varied, but consists mostly of mopane woodland and grassy plains.

We will stay just outside the park at a private lodge. Etosha Safari Lodge is set on a hillock overlooking sprawling mopane woodland. The chalets each have their own private verandah with panoramic views. The main area offers a spacious deck, dining area, bar, lounge and three swimming pools.

Day Itinerary

Today we will spend most of the day searching for animals. We will visit a number of waterholes and stop to view the Etosha Pan, also known as the “place of dry water”. This extensive, flat depression is about 5,000 km2 and a place of shimmering mirages. Seeing large herds of game in this setting is a unique experience. We may stop at Halali to have lunch, before returning to our lodge.

The game viewing in this area is usually excellent, with close-up views of springboks, zebras, impalas, giraffes, gemsboks and plenty of birds and other animals.

Day 10

Day Itinerary

We will go on a final morning game drive before leaving Etosha. We will drive south to Okonjima and the AfriCat Foundation arriving in time for lunch. Okonjima Nature Reserve is home to The AfriCat Foundation. Today, AfriCat's mission is the long-term conservation of some of Namibia's large carnivores including brown hyaena, leopard and cheetah.

This afternoon, you will enjoy a Cheetah Conservation Africat activity to learn more about what Okonjima is doing and how they are protecting and educating farmers about our endangered cheetah population in Namibia.

Day 11

End of Itinerary

Day Itinerary

On our return to Windhoek we will stop by the small town of Okahandja. Here we will visit the biggest craft market in Namibia. The stalls are operated on a co-operative basis by the local community and the market is a good place to do last-minute shopping for truly African souvenirs.

If you have your flight today, your guide will transfer you to the airport or drop you off at your post accommodation booked by you.

Travel agreement/contract

This travel agreement is between the client and Bluecrane Safaris Namibia. In terms of this travel agreement a booking is defined as a reservation which is done by the client or the client's travel agency. The client is defined as the person who accepts the booking on behalf of himself.

Travel agency is defined as any agency that places or accepts a booking for any person or group of persons or company with Bluecrane Safaris Namibia.

Deposits and Payment

Upon receipt of tour confirmation a non refundable deposit of 25% of total tour charges shall become payable, the balance being due and payable 30 days prior to departure date. In the event of bookings being effected less than 30 days before departure the full amount charged will forthwith be payable.

Cancellation

Cancellation must be made in writing. Upon receipt of the written notification, Bluecrane Safaris Namibia will confirm receipt thereof and this date will determine the following charges.

   Up to 28 days prior to departure: Deposit forfeited

   28 to 21 days prior to departure: 30% of total cost forfeited

   21 to 14 days prior to departure: 50% of total cost forfeited

   14 to 7 days prior to departure: 75% of total cost forfeited

   Less than 7 days to departure: 100% of total cost forfeited

It is mandatory for the client to be in possession of a cancellation insurance policy. Please note that if the reason for cancellation falls within the terms of any holiday insurance policy, which the client must hold, then any such charges would normally be refunded to the client by the insurance company, subject to the terms of the insurance.

Passport and Visas

Travel agencies and clients must ensure that passports and visas are valid for the countries visited. Bluecrane Safaris cannot be held liable or responsible should a passenger be refused entry into any country for any reason.

Changes and Delays

By the company: The company shall reserve the right to change any tour due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g. airlines not running on schedule, road conditions, weather, mechanical breakdown, accidents and political instability) beyond the control of Bluecrane Safaris. The company will try to provide adequate alternatives, but will accept no liability.

By the client: In case the client changes the itinerary on his own request, the company shall try to accommodate the client, but may charge cancellation fees. This is subject to a new quotation, which will be given by the client in writing.

Authority on Tour

At all times the decision of the tour guide will be final on all matters likely to endanger the safety and well being of the group. The client must at all times strictly comply with the laws, customs and foreign exchange regulations of all countries visited. Should the client be detected in any contravention of the law, custom or exchange regulations, or should the client be a nuisance to the group, the guide may order the client to leave the tour without the right of refund.

Accidents

While every precaution is taken to ensure the safety of all persons participating on the tour, the client his/hers, heirs, dependants, agents, executors or their assignees, hereby irrevocably waive any rights they may have to claim, any form of compensation for any damages which the client may suffer due to injury or death whilst on, or at any time after the tour, from Bluecrane Safaris. Under no circumstances will Bluecrane Safaris be responsible for the death or injury or loss, which might occur to such persons sustained from any case whatsoever. The client hereby indemnifies and holds Bluecrane Safaris harmless against any and all claims whatsoever the nature.

Health

It is the client's obligation to ensure that he is medically fit and able to embark on the tour. We recommend the vaccination against Hepatitis before travelling. Anti-malaria precautions should be commenced prior to departure and clients should bring insect repellents on tour.

Insurance

It is a condition of travel with Bluecrane Safaris that all guests must have insurance for medical expenses, baggage loss, cancellation/curtailment, default and personal accident.

Liability/Responsibility

The client should get him/herself acquainted with customary practices. Bluecrane Safaris as well as co-operating agents do act in the capacity of agents for the clients in all matters and will under no circumstances whatsoever be responsible and be exempt from any liability for accidents, injury, delay, loss or damage to property or any other loss or damage from whatever it may arise. All tours are subject to the conditions of the concerned airlines, hotels, restaurants and all other contractors involved.
