Day 3
Flight from Java to Borneo and start of your jungle adventure (B, M, A)
Today you fly from Jakarta to Pangkalanbun on the island of Borneo. Once there, you will sail from Kumai harbor across the Sekonyer River into Tanjung Puting National Park. The region is one of the most biodiverse areas in the world, with swampy mangrove forests and dense rainforest, which provides a habitat for orangutans, leopards, lizards and over 600 bird species. After lunch on board, follow the rivers further into the jungle. Look out for wild animals, agile monkeys and colorful birds on the river banks.

Experience orangutans up close (B, M, A)
Start your day tour with a boat trip through Tanjung Puting National Park. The highlight of the day is a visit to Camp Leakey, which you reach via the Senkoyer River. There you have the unique opportunity to see the world-famous orangutans or 'forest dwellers' up close. The staff at the camp are committed to releasing older orangutans back into the rainforest. The surrounding area is also home to gibbon and macaque monkeys. Explore the surrounding area on a hike through the forest.
Even after lunch, you can watch the orangutans being fed and get an even better impression of them.

Day 5
Visit to the NGO project for the conservation of the natural habitat (B, M, A).
In the early morning you drive to Pondok Tanggui (1.5 hours), a rehabilitation center for orangutans. From the center, a 30-minute hike takes you through dense forest to a feeding site where you can once again observe the extraordinary animals. You will then travel by boat to Pesalat. Here, several institutions and organizations are committed to preserving the natural habitat of the orangutans. They focus in particular on the reforestation of the rainforest. See the importance of conservation measures for yourself and visit the orangutan rehabilitation center. Contribute to the conservation of these animals and their habitat by planting a tree. Then travel by boat to a section of the river whose banks are lined with nipa palms. Towards evening, you will experience a fascinating natural spectacle here as thousands of fireflies fly around.

It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1991. The complex is composed of eight main temples surrounded by numerous smaller individual temples. The three largest shrines are dedicated to the three gods Shiva the Destroyer, Vishnu the Preserver, and Brahma the Creator. Afterwards drive to Purawisata. There you will experience a dance performance of the Ramayana Ballet while you enjoy your dinner.

Drive to the world heritage site of Borobudur. Let yourself be guided through the largest Buddhist temple complex in the world and learn more about the history behind this incredible architecture. Constructed from solid volcanic and river rock, the temple was built using only human power, a process that took 75 years. The former importance of this impressive temple can be guessed from the pictorial reliefs. A bicycle awaits you at the exit of the temple, allowing you to experience the Javanese landscape up close as you ride to a local village. Gain an impression of the everyday life of the villagers and treat yourself to a refreshing coconut in a plantation. Visit the nearby Mendut Temple by car, which is home to three impressive stone statues. A little further on, the Pawon Temple is known for its simple yet beautiful symmetry. You then drive back to Yogyakarta.

At the train station in Yogyakarta, board the train to Mojokerto (07:25 - 11:23). Enjoy the view on the scenic route to East Java. From Mojokerto, continue by car through exotic nature. After a four-hour drive, you will have reached the mountain village of Ngadisari, which lies at an altitude of 1,700 m in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. Enjoy the cool mountain air.

Unforgettable sunrise at Bromo Volcano (B)
Today you get up at around 02:30 and drive through the outer caldera to Penanjakan (2270m). The glowing sun behind the volcano will stay in your memory forever. You will then drive back into the caldera to the foot of the volcanic crater, where horses will take you up the mountainside to a staircase that leads to the crater rim (2329 m). Then breakfast at the hotel and onward journey to Surabaya.

Onward flight from Surabaya to Makassar on the island of Sulawesi. Your tour guide will meet you there and take you to the city's traditional harbor, where you can view the impressive Phinisi boats. Visit Fort Rotterdam, one of the best-preserved Dutch buildings from the colonial era. The complex now houses the Negeri La Galigo Museum, which exhibits historical and ethnological objects.

The unique karst landscape of Rammang-Rammang (B)
Today you drive inland to Sengkang. The former capital of a Bugis kingdom overlooks Lake Tempe and is known as a flourishing trading town and for its silk weaving.
On the way, you will make a stopover in Rammang-Rammang. From there, you will travel along the river in a motorboat, past limestone cliffs and nipa palms. Afterwards, an easy trekking tour takes you to a cave with prehistoric drawings. Walk through one of the villages and observe the local people going about their daily lives. You will be served fried bananas and coffee or tea in a private house. After this personal encounter with the local population, you continue to Sengkang.

The floating houses of the Bugis on Lake Tempe (B)
Take a local motorboat out onto Lake Tempe to get to know the Bugis' extraordinary floating houses. Around 30 floating houses are inhabited on Lake Tempe. Let us show you the traditional methods of fishing and drying. Afterwards, visit a silk factory where you can watch the women spinning and weaving the silk. Take your time and climb up a hill to view the city of Sengkang from above.
Then continue via Siwa and Palopo to the home of the Toraja people at Rantepao. Enjoy the panoramic views along the route.

The fascinating death cult of the Torajas (B)
Today you will visit the Toraja villages of Lemo and Suaya to the south. These villages are surrounded by steep rock faces and criss-crossed by burial caves from which very realistic wooden images of famous ancestors have been hung. Marvel at these extraordinary burial forms, which are the outstanding feature of the Toraja. From there, continue to Sengala, where it was traditional to bury deceased babies in tree trunks. In the afternoon, you will visit Londa, where the wooden coffins are attached to the rock faces with ropes and sticks. In Ketekesu you will learn more about the local residential architecture. The roofs of the Tongkonan houses rise up to the sky in the shape of boats. Ornate carvings and drawings adorn the facades. In Ketekesu you can also see a traditional rice storehouse.

Trekking tour through rice fields and volcanic landscapes (B)
In the north of Rantepao, you drive to the village of Batutumonga, which is a good starting point for an easy trekking tour. Situated on the slopes of Sesean Mountain, you can enjoy a wonderful panorama of rice fields scattered with black boulders from past volcanic eruptions. Take a two-hour hike through the villages of Bori and Palawa, where you will get to know the local inhabitants and their customs. Both villages have impressive Tongkonan houses and a circular arrangement of stones in the center of the village, which according to myths are connected to individual ancestors. The final stop is the village of Marante, which has become famous for its special ancestor figures on the rocks, all dressed in white.

Balinese cooking class and traditional village Penglipuran (B, M)
Your tour today takes you to the center of Bali, to the village of Guliang Kawan. On the way there, you will visit a traditional market to buy the ingredients for lunch later on. In Guliang Kawan, you will be welcomed by the villagers with coffee and tea. In a subsequent cooking class, you will learn about everyday Balinese eating habits and forms of preparation and get an impression of the exotic ingredients and the extraordinary culture. After lunch in a hut on the edge of the rice fields, you can watch the farmers at work in the fields. Depending on the season, you will learn how the farmers in Bali plant or harvest their rice and how the irrigation system for wet rice cultivation works. Visit another village, Pengelipuran, which has preserved its traditional Balinese architecture to this day. Then drive to Sanur / Nusa Dua to your beach hotel, where you can relax for the rest of the day.

In the afternoon, drive to the south of Bali to Uluwatu Temple, impressively situated on a steep cliff face overlooking the high waves and currents off the southwest coast that are popular with surfers. Listen to the rhythmic sounds and exclamations of the performers, who dance themselves into a trance during the dramatic singing and can even walk over glowing coals at the end without feeling any pain.
