Day tour: Jatiluwih rice terraces - Bedugul - Tanah Lot
You set off early in the morning to explore the western part of the island of Bali. If you are an early riser, you will reach the rice terraces in Jatiluwih before the usual tourists arrive. The picturesque terraced fields are part of the Suabk irrigation system, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012. Take a short walk through the terraces and enjoy the fresh morning air in nature. From there, drive through the mountains to Bedugul. Before you visit the wonderful water temple by the lake, visit the colorful market in Candikuning, which sells fresh fruits, vegetables, spices and exotic flowers. You then drive to the Alas Kedaton monkey forest, which is home to hundreds of monkeys that, according to local beliefs, are the guardians of a small temple located in the middle of the forest. The famous Tanah Lot temple is located on a volcanic rock off the southwest coast. At low tide it is possible to walk over to the rock. The day tour ends back in Ubud.
Your tour today takes you to the center of Bali, to the village of Guliang Kawan. On the way there, you will visit a traditional market to buy the ingredients for lunch later on. In Guliang Kawan, you will be welcomed by the villagers with coffee and tea. In a subsequent cooking class, you will learn about everyday Balinese eating habits and forms of preparation and get an impression of the exotic ingredients and the extraordinary culture. After lunch in a hut on the edge of the rice fields, you can watch the farmers at work in the fields. Depending on the season, you will learn how the farmers in Bali plant or harvest their rice and how the irrigation system for wet rice cultivation works.
