This trip is a perfect choice for first-time visitors who would like to not only experience the most important Tibetan cultural attractions but also enjoy the treasures of plateau scenery. First, you will pay a visit to Lhasa city, home of famous monasteries and devout Tibetans, and explore the top tourist spots such as Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Bakhor Street, Drepung Monastery, etc., then you will enjoy the stunning plateau scenery of Yamdrok-tso Lake. As one of the top 3 holy lakes in Tibet, dazzling Yamdro-tso is at an altitude of 4441 meters. It lies tens of meters below the road and shows a fabulous shade of deep turquoise. You will see some Tibetan villages nearby and the huge Mt. Nojin Kangtsang(7191m) in the distance.

Day 1

Arrival In Lhasa

Taking flight into Tibet will give you a panorama of the snowy Himalayan Mountains Or 1-2 days of train riding over the high plateau by crossing the Tanggula Mountains with beautiful sceneries along the way. Once you arrive, our local Tibetan tour guide and driver will greet you at Lhasa Airport/Railway with a traditional Tibetan white scarf to wish you good luck! Then transfer you to the hotel, the rest of the day you will be free to wander around the city on your own but try not to overtax yourself. The first day's rest is crucial to acclimatizing to high altitude. Remember to drink lots of water, eat light, and not shower if you can help it.

Today’s first attraction is to visit Drepung Monastery which is the world's largest monastery that housed more than 10,000 monks; it was the residence of the Dalai Lama.

In the afternoon you will first visit the Tibet Museum. Here you can see life scenes, exquisite clothing, house architecture, festival customs, etc. to explore the special and mysterious Tibetan customs. Then you will visit Norbulingka, which is a typical Tibetan-style royal garden, the summer resort of the Dalai Lama. 

In the morning our guide will meet you at the hotel and first take you to visit famous Potala Palace, the cardinal landmark of Tibet and the masterpiece of Tibetan architecture, it was first built by 33rd King Songtsen Gangpo in the 7th century and rebuilt it later in 17th century by 5th Dalai Lama, now it is a museum and world heritage site.

In the afternoon, we will go to visit Jokhang Temple in the center of the old Lhasa city. Jokhang Temple is one of the most sacred temples in Tibet and it is always bustling with earnest local pilgrims since from early days. After that you will take a walk around Barkhor Street which is one of the most devotional circuit as well as crowded central market of Lhasa, Barkhor Street is located in the old area of Lhasa City Tibet, it is a very ancient round street surrounding the Jokhang Temple and the locals are always proud of it. As a symbol of Lhasa, it is also a must-see place for visitors.

After your amazing journey in Lhasa City, the next destination is Yamdrok Lake. Not long after having breakfast, we will pick you up at the hotel. The travel distance is about 105 kilometers away from Lhasa. On the way, you can have a glimpse of Ngachu Valley in the morning lights, and after passing over the Kamba La Pass (5030m), we will finally arrive at the holy lake Yamdrok.

­Located in the north of the Himalayan Mountains, Yamdrok Lake is the largest fresh lake in the district with an area of 675 square meters. According to local Tibetans, the lake is the transformation of turquoise earrings scattered by the Goddess. You will be stocked by the natural beauty but can’t get a whole view here. If you look down from above, you will find the lake panorama like the shape of an eardrop surrounded by the mountain. The scenery appears in different colors of blue from different moments in one angle as a dreamland. Looking around, you can also find other scenery. Local animals are grazing along the fertile lakeshores and Tibetan villages can be seen in the valleys near Yamdrok Lake.

In the afternoon, we will drive back to Lhasa.

Today your guide and driver will escort you to the airport or railway station for your next destination. Before your departure, we will appreciate it if you can spend a few minutes evaluating our services either by filling out the feedback form or simply sending us an email when you back home. Your whole trip officially ended.
