Depart early from Agadir, heading inland through diverse landscapes. Your first stop is in Taroudante, often called “Little Marrakech,” where you can admire its historic ramparts and lively local atmosphere. Continue toward Taliouine, Morocco’s saffron capital, where fields of the precious spice color the region and give it worldwide fame.
After a few hours’ drive, stop in Taznakht for lunch, a town renowned for its Berber rug weaving cooperatives. The journey then takes you via Foum Zguid, gateway to the desert, where the paved road ends. Here, the adventure begins as you cross the stony plains of the Sahara and pass by a fossil site that tells stories of ancient times.
Drive across the shimmering white expanse of Lake Iriki, a dried-out salt lake that stretches endlessly under the sun, creating surreal desert scenery. By late afternoon, arrive at the immense Erg Chigaga dunes, rising majestically from the barren desert floor and still home to nomadic families with their camel herds.
Enjoy a camel ride to watch the sun set over the golden dunes, painting the Sahara with ever-changing colors. Dinner will be served in your desert camp, followed by an unforgettable night in a nomad tent or under the starlit sky in the heart of the bivouac.
