День 2

Sacred Valley tour and transfer to cusco

Your Sacred Valley Tour begins at 8 a.m. when your guide will pick you up from your hotel lobby. You will be taken on a road that winds around the mountains north of Cusco. On the way, we will stop at a famous point known as El Mirador (Lookout Point). From there, we will be able to see the Sacred Valley and gain some insight into the Inca history. The Sacred Valley was one of the main areas the Incas settled. There is an unusual abundance of fertile plains in this high area of the Andes. You will also witness vast contour terracing and irrigation channels left behind by the Incas. Later on, we will drive towards the ruins of Pisac. Here, you will witness and learn about Inca culture. You will see amazing works of stone art and impressive agricultural terraces. After exploring, we will drive back to the lower town of Pisac to stop at a bustling handicraft market. After you spend some time walking around the market bargain hunting, we will meet for lunch at a local Andean restaurant. After lunch, we will drive along the Urubamba River towards the town of Ollantaytambo. Once we reach Ollantaytambo, we will visit the ruins, an important area of Incan construction, built during the Inca’s heydays. This is an extraordinary Inca site because you can find rock formations representing the Inca god, Wiracocha. Afterwards, we will return to Cusco and drop you off at your hotel

Cusco to Soraypampa ( Glass Cabanas ) & Humantay Lake

The day starts very early, with hotel pickup in Cusco around 4:00–4:30 AM. We will head towards Mollepata, passing through towns like Anta and Limatambo, enjoying views of the valleys and Andes.

After about 2 hours, we will stop for breakfast at a local restaurant in Mollepata, then continue another hour to Challacancha, the start of the trek, where you will have time to get organized.

The first section is a gradual 1.5 hour uphill trek, perfect for acclimatization, until arriving at Soraypampa to stay at the Glass Cabañas, where a freshly prepared lunch will be served.

In the afternoon, a 1.5 hour hike to Humantay Lagoon awaits, starting easy and becoming steeper near the lagoon. Enjoy the turquoise waters and glacier at 5,960 m, take photos, and soak in the scenery.

Return to Soraypampa around 4:00 PM. The rest of the afternoon is free to relax or explore. In the evening, join a Peruvian cooking class, enjoy dinner, and spend your first night at the Glass Cabañas under the stars.

Soraypampa – Salkantay Pass – Wayracmachay ( Glass Domes)

Today is the most challenging and rewarding day of the trek. Breakfast is at 5:30 AM at the Glass Cabañas. After a hot breakfast and refilling water bottles, we start the hike to Salkantay Pass.

The trek begins with a moderate uphill on a defined trail. After 2 hours, we reach Salkantay Pampa (4,100 m / 13,450 ft) to rest and enjoy glacier views. Then we climb about an hour on a steep zigzag path to Soyrococha, beneath Salkantay peak, where our chef serves a freshly prepared lunch.

After lunch and refilling water, we continue for about an hour to reach Salkantay Pass (4,630 m / 15,190 ft), the trek’s highest point. Here we honor Pachamama and admire the snow-capped peaks and the Andes’ majesty.

We descend for 2.5 hours to the green valley. Our destination is Wayracmachay camp (3,800 m / 12,467 ft), where we settle in the Glass Domes. Evening includes dinner and a cozy night under the starry sky.

Wayracmachay – Rayanpata – Colpapampa – Loreta (The Hobbit House)

This day brings a dramatic change of scenery as we leave the high Andes and enter the lush high jungle, full of warm breezes, tropical vegetation, and wildlife. We start early with tea delivered to your room and breakfast, then pack snacks and fill water bottles before beginning the hike.

The trail is mostly downhill. After about 2 hours, we reach Rayanpata, where the jungle begins, with warm air and tropical scents. A short break allows time to hydrate and enjoy the forest sounds. We continue 2 more hours to Colpapampa (2,950 m / 9,678 ft) for a jungle-inspired lunch prepared by our cook.

After lunch, we hike approximately 4 more hours along narrow jungle paths, seeing waterfalls, orchids, and coffee fields, until arriving at Loreta, home to the unique Hobbit House. This eco-lodge has hot showers, soft bedding, and a magical forest environment — the perfect place to rest and enjoy the jungle sounds at the end of the day.

Lucmabamba – Llactapata – Hidroelectrica – Aguas Calientes

Today is dedicated to culture, history, and nature as we follow the original Inca paths and glimpse Machu Picchu from a rare viewpoint. Breakfast is at the Hobbit House in Loreta under a lush canopy of trees, followed by a 30-minute drive to Lucmabamba to begin the hike.

The uphill trek along a well-preserved Inca Trail takes about 4 hours, through forests of coffee, bananas, and avocados, with ancient stonework.

We reach Llactapata (2,700 m / 8,861 ft), an archaeological site with panoramic views of Machu Picchu. Your guide provides a short tour.

Then we descend 1.5 hours to Hidroelectrica for a freshly prepared lunch—the last with the trekking crew, a chance to tip or thank them.

From Hidroelectrica, a 3-hour walk along the railway tracks through Machu Picchu canyon lets you spot orchids, butterflies, and possibly the Andean cock-of-the-rock, monkeys, or spectacled bears.

Arrival at Aguas Calientes, check-in, hot shower, and rest for exploring Machu Picchu the next day.

Briefing: The night before the Sacred Valley tour, you will need to come to our office for your briefing, where the guide will explain all the details of the tour. There you will receive your duffel bag, which will be carried by your porters during the hike. This bag should not exceed 7 kg / 14 lbs and should include your sleeping bag and air mattress.

Professional Guides: All of our guides studied English and tourism at university. They grew up in this region and have a true passion for teaching others about their heritage. They are fun yet professional and will ensure you are safe and happy throughout the experience.

Porters: We include a personal porter responsible for carrying your duffel bag with your personal belongings. There is no additional cost for this. You will receive your duffel bag at the briefing the night before to fill it with the items you will need for the following day and night. You will not have access to this bag until you arrive at your evening campsite.

Equipment: Alpaca Expeditions provides the best equipment. You will have a spacious dining tent to enjoy your meals, as well as a duffel bag and backpack cover. Additionally, high-quality equipment such as sleeping bags and trekking poles (walking sticks) will be provided if you choose to rent them, ensuring comfort and safety during the hike.

Food: The chefs at Alpaca Expeditions prepare delicious meals that have been praised by many previous trekkers. We honor all dietary restrictions. Be sure to inform your guide of any restrictions at the beginning of the trek. Food is typically served family-style. You will enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day of the trek, along with a “happy hour” of tea and snacks. You will also be provided with a snack each morning to enjoy during the hike. Your last meal with the chef will be after breakfast on day four. Lunch on the last day is not included.

Water: From your first lunch until your last breakfast, Alpaca Expeditions will supply all necessary water. This water will be boiled, filtered, and then cooled before distribution. You must bring your own water bottles or camelback. We recommend carrying approximately 3 liters. We will refill the water at each meal.

First Aid: Every Alpaca Expeditions guide has received first aid training from a physician. We conduct mandatory training sessions every February, which all guides must attend. Your guide will always carry a first aid kit for basic medical issues (traveler’s diarrhea, cuts, scrapes, etc.) and oxygen. If necessary, we will help you get off the trail as quickly and comfortably as possible, ensuring you reach a clinic directly for treatment.

Extras: We believe that attention to small details is what sets us apart from other tour companies. Every trekker receives a small pillow for sleeping, a foam mat for insulation, a day pack cover to protect their belongings while hiking, and a rain poncho. We work hard to create the best experience for your trip.

Satellite Phones: Our top priority will always be the safety of our clients and team. Although we are prepared and all our guides are trained for most situations on the mountain, having a phone to contact any doctor, hospital, or family member provides peace of mind. The radios our guides carry have limited range, so Alpaca Expeditions has added satellite phones to every trek. Each guide will have a fully charged phone that can be used anywhere on the mountain to connect us anywhere in the world. They can also be used by clients for non-emergency purposes. While not cheap to use, they are available in case you need, for example, to check on the puppy you left at home with grandma.

Since you will be hiking the Inca Trail, you will experience a similar view from the Sun Gate. Please note that weather conditions are beyond our control.

Day Packs: Alpaca Expeditions does not provide day packs. You must bring your own. Make sure not to bring anything too large, as you don’t want it to be too heavy while trekking. Additionally, Machu Picchu does not allow bags larger than 25L, so if you have a large backpack, it must be stored before your tour. Only essentials are needed during the trek: water, snack, camera, sunhat, warm layer, rain layers, insect repellent, sunscreen, and a first-aid kit.

You will not return from your trek until around 8 p.m. on the last day, so make sure your departure flight from Cusco is the following day.

Gratuities: Tipping is always appreciated and should be based entirely on your satisfaction. Although it may not be customary for you, it is very meaningful to the people who will take care of you during your travels.
