Discover the mountains speckled with sacred temples and monasteries as you drive from Paro to Thimphu.

On the way stop at Tachhog Lhakhang (the Iron Chain Bridge), a temple located across the famous iron chain bridge built over the meandering Pa Chhu (Paro River). Devour yourself to the invigorating ambience of the medieval surrounding of the place. The cool-sweeping breeze and bright colored prayer flags is a feast to the eye.

Upon arriving Thimphu (2,300 meters), check in your hotel and freshen up before visiting the exquisite massive structure of Thimphu Tashichoe Dzong- a master piece of Bhutanese architecture.

Visit the local archery ground where the locals celebrate the national sport with dance and song with every hit.

Take a stroll in evening around Thimphu town and absorb the magical atmosphere of the capital city while capturing the sight of the contemporary Bhutanese life.

Explore Thimphu- the capital of Bhutan

• Buddha Dordenma 

Capture the vibrant Buddha Dordema statue in the early morning sunrise. Apart from the serenity of the place, the view of Thimphu city from this mountain is gorgeous. 

• National Memorial Chorten

Visit the Memorial Chorten, one of the most prominent landmarks in Thimphu. People from all walks of life gather to this white washed stupa to circumambulate throughout the day. Catch a glimpse, from elderly citizens reciting mantras and chanting prayers in deep devotion to school going children making rounds dressed up in their uniforms.  The paintings and statues inside the monument provide a deep insight into Buddhist philosophy.

• Wangditse Hike (1.5 hours hike)

Venture through the flavors and scents of thick pine forest along the side of Thimphu valley leading to the glorious Wangditse temple. It is one and half hour - easy hike crossing local apple farms and houses which could be exciting for the kids. The trail further takes into trees of oak, pine, and rhododendron which accompany you throughout the hike while occasionally opening to the view of the Buddha Dordenma statue, Tashichoe Dzong and Thimphu valley.

From Wangditse Temple you have the option to hike back the same way and drive to Dechenphodrang Monastery or hike down to Dechenphodrang Monastery where you can meet young monks undergoing their monastic schooling. You can interact with the monks and witness their day to day life.

After a hearty meal starts your journey to Punakha, the ancient capital of Bhutan.

On the way break at Dochu La- Pass at 3,100 meters above the sea level. Sip a cup of hot coffee at the Dochu La cafeteria while enjoying the mesmerizing panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges. If skies are clear, the high  Himalayan peaks towards the northeast will be revealed in all their glory. Take in the 108 stupas beautifully adorned on the pass with the blue sky backdrop.

Continue to the golden valley of Punakha at an elevation of 1,200 meters, you will observe the change in vegetation from semi alpine to temperate.

 On arriving Punakha; walk along the path through the traditional houses of Sopsokha village amidst agricultural field of rice and mustard, leading to a hillock where the temple of the Divine Mad monk is located; also known as Chimi Lhakhang. 

Later feast your eyes to the intricate wood carving and sculptors of Punakha Dzong.

Take a scenic drive from Punakha to Paro.

On the way stop at Dochu La, we can explore the Royal Botanical garden, Lamperi before reaching Punakha.  It is a breathtaking 125 acres of botanical garden with 46 species of rhododendron flowers. You can choose to boat here. The best time to visit this place will be between April and June. The park also has trekking routes, walk around the Baritsho Lake, tree house, and camping space for visitors. The annual rhododendron festival is held here.

After checking in your hotel you can take a stroll through Paro town, a street of typical Bhutanese traditional buildings.

The rest of the evening is at leisure to unwind and absorb the beauty of this isolated kingdom.

Get your energy up at breakfast this morning for a hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery.

Hike up to Tiger’s Nest - one of Bhutan’s most revered pilgrim sites. Experience the overwhelming monastery perched on a cliff at 3,120 meters above sea level and 900 meters above Paro valley.

Tiger’s Nest or Taktsang acquires its name from the legend of its foundation, when in the 8th Century Guru Rinpoche, widely revered as the second Buddha, arrived from Tibet flying across the mountains on the back of a tigress and meditated here for three months. He blessed and preached tantric Buddhism in Bhutan.

Visit Kichu Temple, one of the oldest temple build in 7th century by Emperor Songtsen Gampo of Tibet in his mission to built 108 temples in a day through his miraculous power over the Himalayan ranges in order to suppress a giant ogress and to spread the Buddha Dharma.
