As the most significant part of the Theban Necropolis, it features temple tombs for notable rulers like Seti I and Hatshepsut, as well as the site of Tutankhamun’s rebellion and the descendants of Amenhotep I.

They were then placed into the ruins of the Amenhotep II funerary temple. Rebuilt several times, it was most famous for its acoustical qualities during the Greco-Roman period. The temple's outer walls were decorated with pictures of Hapi, the Nile god, and his divine family, who were cut in stone.
