4-Day Casablanca to Erg Chigaga Sahara Desert Tour

Your desert odyssey begins with a morning departure from your Marrakech hotel at 08:30. Travel south on a 4-day expedition to the Erg Chigaga dunes, crossing the majestic High Atlas Mountains and passing through picturesque Berber villages. The panoramic views from the winding roads reveal valleys and hamlets nestled in rugged terrain.

After crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m), North Africa’s highest road pass, take a detour to the historic Kasbah Telouet, once the opulent palace of the El Glaoui family.

Descending from the mountains, continue to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, famous as a backdrop for numerous Hollywood films. After lunch, explore this iconic ksar before settling in for the night at a charming riad in Ait Ben Haddou.

After breakfast, depart Ait Ben Haddou and enjoy a scenic drive to Agdz, descending through the Tizi-n-Tinfifite Pass (1,660 m). The landscapes unfold into lush oases and endless palm groves, marking the entrance to the magnificent Dra’a Valley.

Agdz was once a key stop along the historic caravan route linking Timbuktu to Marrakech. Here, you’ll discover the thriving palm groves and visit the region’s oldest fortress, Kasbah Tamnougalt, a fascinating glimpse into southern Morocco’s history.

Continue south along the Ancient Caravan Road, passing Berber villages before reaching Zagora, where you’ll stop for lunch. In the nearby village of Tamgroute, visit the famous pottery workshops and the ancient Quranic library, housing centuries-old manuscripts.

By late afternoon, arrive in M’hamid, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. Settle into your luxury desert camp, where dinner and an evening under the stars await.

Stop for lunch in Foum Zguid, then continue north to Taznakht, a town famous for its beautiful handmade Berber carpets and rugs. Afterward, enjoy a tea break in Ouarzazate before traversing the High Atlas Mountains, with photo stops at panoramic viewpoints along the way.
