Pick-up Time: From 07:00 AM Tour Duration: ±12 Hours Estimated Arrival in Hazyview: 17:00 PM
Depart from Johannesburg at dawn as we journey eastward into Mpumalanga—the province where the sun rises first. This scenic drive takes us toward the heart of the Panorama Route, one of South Africa’s most awe-inspiring travel corridors.
Our first stop is the charming highland village of Dullstroom, known for its crystal-clear trout dams, tranquil scenery, and alpine atmosphere. We pause here for refreshments and a leg stretch, taking in the serene countryside before pressing on.
From there, the landscape transforms as we approach the world-renowned Blyde River Canyon—26 kilometers of soaring cliffs and subtropical forest, making it the third-largest canyon on Earth and by far the greenest.
Highlights along the Panorama Route include:
God’s Window – Gaze over the edge of the escarpment into a seemingly endless Lowveld. On a clear day, you can see as far as Mozambique.
Berlin Falls – One of Mpumalanga’s most spectacular waterfalls, plunging from towering heights into a scenic pool below.
Bourke’s Luck Potholes – Explore this dramatic geological site, where centuries of swirling waters have carved out cylindrical rock formations and natural bridges.
Three Rondavels – Marvel at these iconic, rounded peaks shaped like traditional African huts. Legend links them to a chief and his three outspoken wives—each peak bearing her name and personality.
After this enriching drive through towering cliffs and lush valleys, we arrive in Hazyview, a welcoming Lowveld town that serves as the gateway to Kruger National Park. Here, you’ll check into your overnight lodge and unwind ahead of tomorrow’s wildlife adventure.
