The Masai Mara is Kenya's most animal-rich reserve. With the onset of the rainy season, millions of wildebeests, zebras and gazelles race across the Mara River to Tanzania to mate. We move along with them. Up to the cichlids at Lake Victoria and four full days of safari to the Big Five in the Serengeti World Heritage Site and the 25,000 predators in the Ngorongoro Crater. Then awaits under palm trees: a long, relaxing and full of pleasure passing finale on the Golden Beach of Zanzibar.

The time has come

You're sitting on packed suitcases and off you go on the trip of a lifetime to Kenya!
After landing in Nairobi, your tour guide will take you to your accommodation. Rest up from the journey or enjoy your first impressions! In the evening, you are invited to dinner at our partner agency.

Where to stay
Double Tree Hotel
Your quietly located accommodation for the night is just a few minutes' walk from the colorful and lively streets of Nairobi. In the air-conditioned rooms of the Double Tree Hotel, which are furnished with tasteful wooden furniture, you can reflect on the experiences of the day without a care in the world. The lovingly furnished outdoor area with pool and the cozy lounge with in-house restaurant provide even more feel-good moments. The friendly hotel team will be happy to serve you dinner on the terrace.

As in many large cities, traffic in Nairobi can be very heavy. You may therefore be on the road for longer than planned.
Along the East African Rift Valley, you pass Naivasha, the highest lake in the eastern arm of the rift valley, on your way to Lake Nakuru National Park. Before you arrive, stop at the Malaika orphanage. Here you will get to know the everyday life of the children and learn about the country and its people, especially about the social work of this project, during a short tour of the grounds. After lunch at the camp, you set off for the national park, home to snakes, more than 50 mammal species and 450 bird species. Leopards, lions, giraffes and hippos also live here. Founded in 1967 as Africa's first bird conservation national park, it has since been expanded to 188 square kilometers and is a sanctuary for the rare white and black rhinos.

Accommodation
Mbweha Safari Camp
Mbweha Safari Camp is located on the southern edge of Lake Nakuru National Park with fantastic views of the Eburu and Mau Hills. You will spend the night in one of the ten comfortable cottages built from lava rock with thatched roofs. The rooms are stylishly furnished in brown tones and with local decorations. In the lovingly landscaped garden with colorful trees, you can listen to the many sounds of nature and enjoy the breathtaking views.

The route covers approx. 200 km.
At the Malaika orphanage, the children live in very simple conditions, typical of the country. With your visit, you will be making a small contribution to supporting the project by enabling the hosts to earn an additional small income.
The orphanage is closed during the Christmas vacations. The children are with foster families and spend the Christmas vacations there. In this case, you drive directly to Mbweha Safari Camp. After lunch, you go on a game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park.
In the early morning, you drive to the Masai Mara. The nature reserve, which is one of the most visited in the world, covers around 1,500 km² with all its beauty and diversity. The species population has been preserved here for a century. Mara means "spotted", which probably refers to the hilly savannah covered with groups of bushes. As a little foretaste of tomorrow's safari day, take a look around the endless expanses in the afternoon.

Tipilikwani Mara Camp
Directly at the northern entrance to the animal-rich Masai Mara, a spacious safari tent awaits you at Tipilikwani Mara Camp, furnished with great attention to detail and high-quality wooden furniture. Each tent has a large bathroom with shower and free-standing bathtub and a terrace with a wonderful view over the diverse landscape around the Talek River.

Today is dedicated entirely to wild animals and birds. In search of lions, elephants, buffaloes and leopards, you will probably also be able to observe cheetahs hunting through the savannah. Especially in the cooler morning and evening hours, you can photograph the animals grazing, looking for prey or visiting the waterholes.

If you would like to experience even more, we have the following recommendation for you:
Experience a hot-air balloon flight over the Masai Mara at sunrise, followed by a champagne breakfast in the midst of nature. The price for the approximately one-hour hot-air balloon ride with breakfast is € 550 per person. Other international guests also take part in this excursion. The duration and course of the flight depend on the weather and wind conditions. This optional activity takes place in the early morning as an alternative to the safari. We kindly ask you to pre-book this excursion with Chamäleon well in advance of your trip.
Immediately after breakfast, you will paddle on the lake. You will be taken by canoe to a nearby fishing village. There you will learn more about fishing from the locals. After lunch at your accommodation, you will head into the Serengeti: not far from the lake, you will pass the gate to the national park and then you will set off on a game drive in search of representatives of the Big Five - buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion and rhino and perhaps even hunting cheetahs will pay their respects here. Afterwards, a sensational starry sky awaits you.

Right in the middle of it all: Serengeti Heritage Camp awaits you in the heart of the Serengeti National Park. Enjoy the fantastic location with a view of the bustling nature. In your cozy and spacious safari tent with private bathroom, the sounds of the animals will accompany you to sleep. And in the morning? The savannah view is still there for you!

The driving distance is approx. 200 km.
Serengeti means "endless land" to the Maasai. You can see this for yourself all day today. After an early breakfast, you set off to observe hyenas and jackals, among others. Small island rocks, the kopjes, are typical of the area and are often used by lions as sunbeds. That's why you should always keep an eye on the rocks! In between, you can take a break at a sun-protected spot in the national park. At the end of the day, the starry sky awaits again.

On the last safari through the savannah landscape, you can look out for animals that have been hiding until now. On the way to the Ngorongoro Crater, you will stop at the Olduvai Gorge, which is considered the "cradle of mankind". Among other things, 1.7 million-year-old remains of the so-called Nutcracker Man were found here. The gorge is therefore one of the world's most important sites for research into human history. Locals will explain the history of this place to you. With new knowledge in your luggage, you continue through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to Mto wa Mbu. Here you can immerse yourself in Tanzania's farming culture, as your walk through the small town takes you past various plantations. You end the evening at your accommodation.

As it can get cold in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, we recommend that you bring a warm jacket or sweater.
Around 25,000 wild animals live in the Ngorongoro Crater in a relatively small area, including almost all East African big game animals. This means that the game reserve has the highest animal population in the world. The crater slopes are mostly forested, while its floor at a depth of 600 meters is covered in grass. You can encounter lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests and warthogs there. You might even come across some black rhinos, which are threatened with extinction. We set off very early so that you can experience the morning atmosphere in the crater. From the crater rim, you can take one last look at the surreal landscape with river courses, grassy plains and a glowing soda lake. A day with memories for eternity.
