Life is a river from which you sometimes emerge and are no longer the same. Maybe you feel the same way after this adventure, when you have experienced the mass migration of animals at the Mara, the Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Natron and the shining view over the endless bush savannah at the sensational Shu'mata Camp.

Day 1

Let's go

Today you fly to Tanzania with great excitement.
After landing and a warm welcome at the airport, the adventure begins. You make your way to Shu'mata Camp, which is located on a hill in the savannah of the Kilimanjaro-Amboseli ecosystem. The route takes you along the main road for a short distance, then you continue on the side roads and it begins: broadband cinema Africa! With changing panoramic views before your eyes, you get closer and closer to your destination in the original Maasai territory. The savannah landscape around Shu'mata with its acacia forests stretches across from the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro. After a short coffee break at the camp, you will go on a one-hour hike along the Shu'mata mountain accompanied by a local Maasai and learn interesting facts about the flora and fauna. Afterwards, pure relaxation awaits you in your comfortable tent.

Shu'mata Camp
Shu'mata Camp is located on a hill at the foot of Kilimanjaro with a magnificent view of the Tanzanian steppe. A luxurious camp like in Hemingway's time: The seven large East African safari tents are lovingly furnished with every detail and have an "open-air" bathroom. These are generously attached to each tent and offer the possibility of a shower under the stars. In the middle of Maasai country, you will experience fantastic views, animal sightings and sunset romance - a small paradise.

Enjoy another breakfast, then it's time to say goodbye and head towards Tarangire National Park. The park is characterized by a savannah landscape, which is best known for its large herds of elephants and impressive baobab trees. The Tarangire River flows through the park, which usually still carries sufficient water even in the annual dry season from July to October, making it a magnet for all the animals living in the region. And it's not just elephants that you'll see; warthogs, buffalo, waterbuck and perhaps lions will also cross your path. The botanists and ornithologists in your travel group will have a great time in this park. Observing the different bird species rounds off today's game drive. Photograph everything once again and then head back to your accommodation in the afternoon.

Tarangire Simba Lodge
Tarangire Simba Lodge welcomes you on the edge of Tarangire National Park near Lake Burungi. From the spacious house tents with thatched roofs and private verandas, you have an impressive view of the surrounding area. The waterhole next to the lodge often attracts zebras, giraffes or even elephants, which, with a bit of luck, you can observe directly from your tent or the raised wooden platform. On hot days, a swimming pool provides refreshment.

Just as the Maasai once moved on day after day, so do we today. We move on, because every day we get closer to the Serengeti. But first there is another small but impressive national park on our way. Here you have the imposing backdrop of the steeply rising wall of the East African Rift Valley. And in the foreground is Lake Manyara National Park, our first destination for today. A short breather at the gate until the driver is ready to go, then into the car and off we go! Giraffes, elephants and hippos are particularly easy to spot here, as well as birds such as the flamingo, pelican, ibis, glutton, kingfisher and cormorant. Another highlight could be the lions that present themselves to you in the trees - we'll keep our fingers crossed! And we could almost bet that the largest number of species on offer will be baboons - let us surprise you. In the afternoon, it's back to your accommodation before the next highlight awaits tomorrow.

Ngorongoro Safari Lodge
Ngorongoro Safari Lodge is beautifully nestled in the crater landscape of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Its plains, savannahs and forests are home to thousands of wild animals and semi-nomadic Maasai with their herds of cattle. Guests of the lodge stay in comfortable safari tents with en-suite bathrooms, and while you relax on your veranda, there is a good chance that zebras or giraffes will be watching you. Enjoy the great view of the saltwater lake Eyasi and end the day in the restaurant or around the campfire under the stars.

We set off early in the morning for the Ngorongoro Crater, which has a lot to offer. It is home to around 25,000 mammals and can therefore boast the highest density of predators in Africa. The waterholes never dry out completely, and this is precisely the secret of why many remain in the crater for the rest of their lives. Lions, elephants, wildebeest, buffalo, flamingos, zebras and warthogs all feel right at home here. Not forgetting the rare black rhino, which is also at home in the crater. And if you see it here, there is a very good chance that you will be able to complete your list of the Big Five in the next few days. You leave the crater around midday and the journey continues to Africa's most famous wildlife area: the Serengeti. The word Serengeti means "endless land" in the Maasai language. The Serengeti National Park has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981. The excitement mounts: Driving through Maasai country, villages along the way and repeated encounters with animals. You then reach your home for the day in the middle of the seemingly endless savannah.

Serengeti Safari Lodge
The Serengeti Safari Lodge in the heart of the savannah is situated on a small hill with breathtaking views. The bungalows, built with natural materials, are lovingly furnished with wooden furniture. From the private veranda, the beautifully designed outdoor shower or even from your bed, you can let your gaze wander over the unique landscape. In the restaurant with terrace, lounge and bar, you will be spoiled with local and international dishes and drinks. As soon as it gets dark, the gigantic starry sky of the Serengeti is on the program.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast early in the morning and then take in the savannah on a foot safari. The big four-legged friends are certainly not the goal here, it is the tracks and the voices of nature. Then it's time to say goodbye. Don't worry, it's not goodbye to the Serengeti, it's going into extra time. You do the same as the herds of animals and hike on towards the water in the northern Serengeti. You reach your accommodation in the late afternoon, where you can settle in for the next two nights. The evening program today features starry skies with nature sounds.

Kenzan Mara Tented Camp
Kenzan Mara Tented Camp is located in the northern part of the Serengeti and is open from June to November. At this mobile tented camp, you will sleep in spacious, tastefully furnished tents with en-suite bathrooms. Delicious meals are served in a restaurant tent. Enjoy the unique view of the savannah landscape and in the evening enjoy the concert that nature offers you here.

We recommend long pants and sturdy, closed shoes for the morning walking safari.
I'm sure your body clock is already set to it anyway and you're up early. So it's no problem to get an early start today. The last chance to see wildebeest and all the other suspects in the Serengeti. You leave the national park behind you, pass the Kleins Gate on the north-eastern border of the park and head for the next highlight. Somewhat bumpy roads, partly along the East African Rift Valley, take you further east to Lake Natron. The reddish-brown salt lake looks phenomenal: At the edge, the water is not too deep, so the heat causes the water to evaporate and the soda-containing minerals form white salt crusts. In the middle, algae create a reddish-brown coloration that completes the lake's fantastic appearance. And you can enjoy this spectacle. If everything goes well, you'll make it to sunset with a view of the lake - a dream! Then the starry sky and the sounds of nature are back on the evening program.

Lake Natron Camp
Lake Natron Camp is idyllically situated in the midst of untouched nature near the imposing Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano. An oasis of peace awaits you here in the land of the Maasai. Each of the tastefully furnished tents has a shower and toilet, as well as a covered veranda. A stream meanders through the eco-camp, inviting you to refresh yourself on hot days. When the sun slowly sets, you can end the day by the campfire or in the communal tent.

After breakfast, you make your way eastwards through Massailand. With changing panoramic views, you get closer and closer to your destination. After arriving at your accommodation, you will have time to review the adventures of the last few days with your fellow travelers.

Mount Meru Game Lodge is located in picturesque surroundings just outside the city of Arusha. Today you can take it easy. After breakfast, you set off with your suitcases packed and after a short drive, you arrive in a small village at the foot of Mount Meru. You will meet your local guide at the church, who will introduce you to the customs and traditions of the Meru people on a walk through the village. You will then be greeted with a friendly "Jambo" at the Kahawa coffee plantation. You'll get up close and personal with how coffee works. Hardly any questions will remain unanswered, only the desire for a cup of coffee will increase. What would a coffee plantation be without a tasting sip - of course we won't leave that out, so look forward to a cup. But that's not all, a local lunch has also been conjured up for you. That's enough to keep you going before you make your way to the airport, where your plane back home is waiting for you.
