Hiking Tour: Sandvík to Hvalba

The hike begins at the west end of Sandvík. Pass through the gate and follow the cairns uphill. Sandvík is one of the oldest Faroese villages. According to Færeyinga Saga, Viking chieftain Sigmundur Brestisson swam here from Skúvoy in the 11th century but was killed by Torgrímur Illa, who stole his golden arm ring. The first part of the trail is easy but becomes steeper, with cairns spaced farther apart. In clear weather, enjoy stunning views of Sandvík and Lítli Dímun. Near the top, a memorial stone honours 14 men lost in a 1915 whaling disaster. Descend easily towards Hvalba on grassy terrain, rich in summer birdlife. Towards the end, follow the river, keeping a stone wall to your left and a fence to your right, leading to the outfield gate near the concrete water tanks. It is possible and recommended to take a slight detour out to the picturesque Rituskor and to Ásmundarstakkur sea stack.

Terrain: Most of the hike is on grassy fields. Parts are on rocky surface.

Other details: From Sandvík it is a bit difficult during the steep and short bit before the highest point.

Hiking Tour: Hvalba to Trongisvágur

This stunning hike across Suðuroy takes you along one of the island’s historic routes, once a vital connection between the northern and southern settlements. The journey begins above the village of Hvalba, famous for its coal mines and rich history of pirate raids, and follows the old path over Hvalbiarfjall. You’ll ascend past Káragjógv, a dramatic gorge tied to local legend, and continue toward Íslendingur, where the panoramic views open up to islands like Skúvoy, Sandoy and both Dímun islands. The trail flattens out here, offering a peaceful stretch across the highlands. Descend through Mannagjógv, a deep ravine with sweeping views over Trongisvágsfjørður. The hike ends near the forest in Trongisvágur – a perfect spot for a rest and a cup of coffee.

Other details: The trail is mostly easy-going but steep and rough near Káragjógv. Not recommended in icy or wet conditions.

Faroe Islands - Suðuroy (Part 2)

Hiking Tour: Fámjin to Vágur

This westside hike on Suðuroy offers sweeping views over the dramatic mountains surrounding the village of Fámjin, tranquil lakes scattered across the valleys, and a beautiful route leading down towards Vágur. Begin your walk by the church in Fámjin, then follow the old village path uphill towards Reyðabakki (375 m). From here, the views over Fámjin and the surrounding peaks are especially striking. Continuing south across Fløtan, you soon reach the area of Bjarghagi, where a chain of shimmering lakes lies at different altitudes, the largest being Mittvatn and Ryskivatn. Above them rise the distinctive peaks of Borgin and Borgarknappur, as well as Glopprókin with its dramatic rock formations. Follow the trail past Ryskivatn, which has supplied water to the local power station since 1921, before joining the track across to Hálsar. Along the way, you can look down on the historic Botni power station – the first ever in the Faroe Islands. From Hálsar, the path turns downhill towards Vágur, with wonderful views across the fjord and out to the sea cliffs of Beinisvørð. The trail finally leads you down through the gorge of Gjógvará, where the hike comes to an end.

Terrain: Mostly easy walking on a well-trodden path. In some sections, there is loose gravel and stones, especially on the

slopes and rocky areas.

Other details: The trail is a little steep leaving Fámjin and again when descending from Ryskivatn.

Approx. duration: 2-3 hours

Hiking Tour: Akrar to Beinisvørð

Start your hike in Akrar, following the village path through the sheep pen at the village’s end. Climb over the fence and head up along its left (east) side. At the first rise, continue along the river Ærgisá, east of the ravine, and follow the cairns down to Víkarbyrgi. Enjoy scenic views at Brúgvin, a perfect spot to rest while overlooking Porkerisnes headland to the north and Baglhólmur islet to the east.

From Víkarbyrgi, cross the bridge over the river Víkará and pass through the small sheep pen. Follow the river, climb the fence, and ascend to the first cairn for a view of Víkarbyrgi, once a major village before the Black Death in 1349. The path continues along a rock-lined river to a waterfall below Krílheyggur. Hike up Moldstíggjur through a crag and reach Oyrnaskarð pass, where the white screes of Blæing create a striking landscape. Cross the grassy valley Bótin, passing Trøllhúsið, a rocky knoll resembling a troll house in the fog. Climb a low fence before following the cairns down to the road leading to Sumba. It is recommended to take the detour to the dramatic Beinisvørð sea cliffs for an amazing view.

Terrain: Grass-covered and good for walking throughout. Moldstíggjur, the path up through a crag, is somewhat steep.

Other details: Although grass-covered, Moldstíggjur, the path up through the crags above Víkarbyrgi, is somewhat steep.

Faroe Islands - Vágar

Departure, Ferry back to Tórshavn

On this day, you will take the ferry back to Tórshavn, enjoying the peaceful Faroese seascape as you sail across the waters. Once you arrive in Tórshavn, you will make your way to Hotel Føroyar, where you will be staying for the next four nights.

Hiking Tour: Gásadalur to the Abandoned Village of Víkar

This hike begins in Gásadalur and takes you along the Slættanes Path, leading up to the crest between the mountains Árnafjall and Eysturtind. At 519 metres, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views over Vágar Island, the cliffs of Saksun, and Streymoy Island’s northern peaks. From here, descend towards the remote village of Víkar, with ruins that hint at life in this isolated settlement, abandoned in 1914. The path can be challenging, especially as it becomes gritty and steep near Lambagjógv Gorge. Follow the cairns carefully, and avoid getting too close to rockfall-prone areas. Once you reach the grassy plain, the trail smooths out and leads you down to Víkar, where you can explore the remains of its old homes and farm plots, imagining the lives of its former residents. On a calm summer day, consider a detour to Nevtanga for beautiful sea views and a look at the old boat landing area. After exploring, retrace your steps back to Gásadalur. This hike is best suited for those experienced with rugged terrain..

Approx. duration: 4-5 hours

Lenght: 10 km

Peak: 596 m

Elevation: 1406 m

ADD-ON: Kayak Adventure on the Lake Above The Ocean

Paddle across the Faroe Islands’ largest lake, Leitisvatn, and explore the iconic Bøsdalafossur waterfall as it plunges into the Atlantic. Starting from turf-roofed stone houses near Miðvágur, this scenic kayak route offers breathtaking views of Trælanípa and the towering Geituskorardrangur rock. Suitable for all levels, this journey immerses you in Vágar Island’s untouched landscapes and unforgettable coastal scenery.

Faroese Tapas at Katrina Christiansen

Katrina Christiansen is a Faroese restaurant inspired by the Spanish-tapas style and is situated in the old part of Tórshavn in a historic building. The building was renovated in 2016 and emphasis was put on preserving as much of the original building as possible. Sections of the house date back to the start of the 18th century, and perhaps even earlier. In the 19th century, the house operated as the largest general store in the Faroe Islands. Several of its occupants have made it into the Faroese history books, including the well-known William Heinesen, who grew into becoming the most widely recognized Faroese author.

День 5

Faroe Islands - Northern Islands

Hiking Tour: Cape Enniberg

The hike is estimated to 6 hours and is recommended to people in good shape, since it’s a diffucult and heavy walk. The route starts at “Við Garð” in the northern part of Viðareiði. You will first walk up the road and out through the gate to the outfield. Almost all the way to the top, the route is marked with blue plastic tubes that stick out of the ground.

The first leg is grassy, but gradually the route becomes rockier and cliffs appear. Be aware of loose stones, especially if you are in a group. On one part of the route uphill is an old stone wall. The wall was erected to prevent the cattle from going to steep areas in the mountains. When there are about 100 vertical meters left to the top, you will come to a small plateau with a cairn and some pointed rocks. One of the stones is called “Kona Per” (Per’s Wife). There is a story about a bachelor

from Viðareiði who was teased about not having a wife, and the men teasing him proclaimed the rock to be his wife.

The cairns lead to the steep cliff Enniberg. It is often said among the Faroese that Enniberg, with its 754 meters, is the highest promontory in Europe (indeed, the world) facing the open sea. Whether this is true is not known with certainty, but it is fabulously beautiful and steep at any rate.

It is, however, only recommended to visit Enniberg together with local guides, since the place is difficult to access and it is easy to get lost. The view from the top is spectacular. In addition to Malinsfjall, you see further south than on any of the other beautiful mountains of Viðoy. To the west, you have the proud Kunoyarnakkur, the northernmost of the six mountains in Kunoy that is taller than 800 meters.

Terrain: This hike takes you through diverse and challenging terrain, transitioning from grassy fields to rugged, rocky slopes before reaching steep cliffs with dramatic drops into the ocean.

Other details: Be careful on the way down as the rocky surface is slippery.

Approx. duration: 6 hours

Lenght: 8-10 km

Peak: 754 m

Elevation: 737 m

Faroe Islands - Sandoy

Hiking Tour: Historic Húsavík, Dalur, and Scenic Skarvanes

Embark on a roundtrip hike through the charming villages of Húsavík, Dalur, and Skarvanes, where history and nature blend beautifully.

Starting at Guðrunarløkur brook, head south along the main road to Húsavík, a village with stone houses and walls dating back to medieval times. Explore the Tumbakki area by the shore, with mysterious turf sheds likely used for ancient food storage. Continue towards Dalur, following the old village path through stone ruins. Marked by cairns, the trail is steep but welltrodden. From here, follow the path to Skarvanes, with stunning views of the surrounding islands on clear days.

As you descend, the tiny village of Skarvanes will appear, once home to Díðrikur á Skarvanesi, the Faroes’ first known painter. Follow the cairns and poles past Dúniavatn lake, and watch for the split Klovnusteinar rocks. They look like a single rock that has been split into two. People used to believe that if you walked through the rocks, you would die before the year is over. This is most likely a myth, but try to steer around the rocks… Just in case.

Return to Guðrunarløkur to complete your scenic journey through Sandoy’s historic heart.

Approx. duration: 4-6 hours

Lenght: 15.3 km

Peak: 296 m

Elevation: 668 m

ADD-ON: Rappelling in Sandoy

Rappel down the towering cliffsnear Sandur. It’s not for the faint-hearted, but it’s an unforgettable way to get up close with the island’s raw nature. As you make your way down (and yes, back up again), you’ll have front-row views of nesting seabirds, sculpted rock faces, and the roaring Atlantic below.

This is Sandoy at its most dramatic—seen from a perspective few ever reach.

Traditional Home Dining in Toftir

Join the Rasmussen family in Toftir for an authentic Faroese meal. Just 15 minutes from Tórshavn, Rigmor and Jens Mortan will serve six traditional dishes inspired by Faroese culinary heritage, including dried fish, fermented fish, and rhubarb pie. Enjoy local flavours in a cosy 1960s home, accompanied by Faroese beer, coffee, and tea. A warm, memorable dining experience that brings Faroese culture to life.

День 7

Faroe Islands - Streymoy

Hiking Tour: Sundshálsur Circular

From the first steps, this route offers open views over Eysturoy, south toward Tórshavn, and out to the island of Koltur. The path climbs gently toward the small mountain pond at Sundshálsur before reaching the broad pass of Reiðskarð — also known as Norðarskarð in Syðradal — where the grassy trail is marked by cairns and easy underfoot. From here, descend into Syðradal along a new farm road, cross the Breiðá river, and follow a line of red-topped poles toward Norðradal. The trail narrows through Tungulið pass, where cliffs drop steeply to the surf below and deep gullies cut into the hillside. Koltur’s distinctive profile appears ahead, standing sentinel in the sea.

Beyond the stone gate at Norðradal, you can add a short detour into Dalagjógv gorge, a dramatic cleft with a narrow ledge, before continuing into Sunnarabotn. The climb steepens up Rossarygg ridge, a natural viewpoint tied to an old local legend about a priest’s fateful journey — a story that gives Lýsnarskarð, or “Light Pass,” its name. The final stretch to Sunnarskarð opens onto a sweeping panorama of Kallbaksfjørður and the eastern peaks of Eysturoy. From here, the walk eases into a flat, stony track leading back across the high ground to Sundshálsur.

Approx. duration: 3.5 hours

Length: 11 km

Peak: 437 m

Elevation gain: 649 m

Terrain: Grass path with some steep sections

A Journey into Faroese Fermentation at RÆST

RÆST, located in the heart of Tórshavn, offers a truly unique dining experience, steeped in Faroese tradition. The restaurant is dedicated to the ancient art of fermentation, known locally as ræst, which has been a cornerstone of the Faroese diet for centuries due to the islands’ harsh climate and limited access to fresh ingredients. At RÆST, this timehonoured technique is transformed into a culinary art form, blending traditional methods with contemporary Nordic cuisine.

The menu at RÆST is a celebration of the Faroese terroir. Fermented lamb, fish, and other local ingredients, such as root vegetables, are prepared in innovative ways that showcase the natural flavours and textures developed through the fermentation process. Each dish is carefully crafted to offer diners an authentic taste of Faroese heritage while also pushing the boundaries of modern gastronomy.

The setting at RÆST is as intimate and rustic as the cuisine it serves. Housed in a traditional wooden building, the warm atmosphere evokes a sense of connection to the past. Dining here is not just a meal; it’s an exploration of Faroese culture and culinary history. Every course is accompanied by stories of how these ancient preservation techniques sustained generations of islanders.

For those looking to experience the raw and distinct flavours of the Faroe Islands, RÆST offers a one-of-a-kind journey that leaves a lasting impression on the palate and the soul.

If you cancel your booking after it has been confirmed, but before you utilise the Experience, you

must pay to us:

(a) our reasonable costs to cancel your booking (to cover communication and administration

costs); and

(b) any cancellation fees imposed by the suppliers of your Adventures/Experiences (including

airlines if applicable).

Cancellation fees cannot be waived.

If you have paid any amount to us in respect of a booking, we may use it to pay the above costs and

fees. Any difference will be refunded to you. Please note that the earlier you cancel your booking the

lower the cancellation fees are likely to be.

After your travel has commenced, there can be no refund in respect of any Adventures/Experiences

not utilised whether by choice or because of late arrival or early departure, including failure of a

transport to operate according to schedule. Employees of any supplier are not authorised by us to

give any undertakings in respect of refunds or other matters.

10. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

We facilitate the arrangement of Adventures/Experiences that are, at times, delivered by third-party

suppliers. As we do not always directly provide these services, we cannot be held responsible for the

actions of other companies when our representatives are not present.

Suppliers Terms and Conditions

Supply of the Adventures/Experiences is made, and all itineraries, coupons and exchange orders

(collectively “vouchers”) are issued to you, upon the supplier’s terms and conditions that are then in

use, including as to the applicable laws, requirements and policies of any government authority

related to, among others, visas, entry, exit or transfer requirements. Your acceptance of the

vouchers constitutes those terms and conditions as the entire agreement between you and the

relevant supplier and you bear all costs or losses incurred as a consequence of your failure to comply

with them.

Exclusion of Liability

In the absence of our negligence, we are not liable for any cancellations, diversions, substitution of

equipment, variations, postponements or any other act, omission or default (whether negligent or

otherwise) of any supplier nor are we liable for any loss or damage to baggage or property, injury,

illness or death, or any other loss (including consequential loss) damage or claim whatsoever arising

from the act, error, omission, default or negligence of any person not our direct employee or under

our exclusive control.

We are not responsible for any criminal conduct of any third party.

Where a motor coach seat is fitted with a safety belt, neither we nor any supplier concerned will be

liable for death, injury, or any loss or damage whatsoever you suffer from any accident or incident if

you are not wearing the safety belt at the time of such accident or incident.

We are not liable for any injury, damage, loss, delay, additional expenses or inconvenience caused

by your acts, omissions or defaults, your state of health, medical condition or circumstances or other

reasons which are beyond our control, including force majeure events or failure of equipment or

machinery.

Warranties

To the extent permitted by law, all express and implied warranties, guarantees, representations or

terms are expressly excluded.

Where the law implies any warranty guarantee or condition which cannot be excluded, our liability

to you for breach thereof is limited to supplying the services again or payment of the cost of having

the services supplied again.

Maximum Liability

Despite any other provision of these terms and conditions, to the extent permitted by law, our

maximum liability to you or any third party is limited to the price you have paid us for the booking.

11. COMPLAINTS

We endeavour to ensure that the arrangements we have made for you are implemented as

arranged. If a problem occurs, the most practical way to deal with it is attempt resolution with the

supplier. If you fail to follow this course, any claim for compensation may be reduced or denied. If

you have any unresolved complaint, details should be lodged in writing (with supporting

documentation, including efforts made with the supplier to resolve it) with your travel agent or
