From the Pacific coast to the high mountains, from the lively beaches of Southern California down to the solitude of the desert, from trendy cosmopolitan cities to small gold mining towns where time seems to have stood still: California unites numerous contrasts and is an experience for every visitor.dream roads on the Pacific, through mountains and desertStarting from the dream city of San Francisco, drive south, see spectacular coastal landscapes along the famous Highway 1 and historic mission stations. You will experience the metropolis of Los Angeles with Hollywood and Santa Monica, explore the Mojave Desert in Joshua Tree National Park and Death Valley. Another dream road in the east of the Sierra Nevada leads to two interesting lakes, the mysterious Mono Lake and the beautiful Lake Tahoe. Through hidden valleys in the Sierra Nevada, the route leads to the volcanic wonders of Lassen Volcanic NP and finally to the world-famous Yosemite NP. At the end of the trip, you will taste wine in Napa Valley and drive back to San Francisco via the Golden Gate Bridge.

Day 1

San Francisco

Individual arrival in San Francisco. Meet the group and your tour guide at 4 pm and drive over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito. Overnight stay in a hotel in San Francisco.
Start of the journey along the Pacific coast with fantastic views of the sea. A short hike leads to an elephant seal colony. In Santa Cruz, the oldest amusement park in California is located directly by the sea. In a state park, you will see the first giant redwood trees on this trip. Monterey is famous for Cannery Row from John Steinbeck's novel of the same name and for Fisherman's Wharf. Overnight stay at the hotel.
The 17-Mile-Drive along the peninsula between Monterey and Carmel is considered one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline In Carmel, you will visit the historic Carmel Mission, one of the mission stations on the Anza Trail, which the Spanish used to open up California. The afternoon and evening are at leisure in Monterey. You have the option of visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which is well worth seeing, or taking a boat trip to go whale watching (both optional). Overnight stay as on the previous day.
One of the world's dream roads is Highway 1 along the cliffs near Big Sur. Take a short hike in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, observe the goings-on in a seal colony and visit the obscure Hearst Castle. Overnight stay at the hotel.
California is of course also a land of beaches. You walk along Pismo Beach, visit the Danish-influenced town of Solvang and the very pretty Santa Barbara with its mission, before reaching the suburbs of Los Angeles in the evening. Overnight stay in a hotel.
The Disney Concert Hall is an architectural highlight. After the tour, take a stroll along the palm-lined streets of Beverly Hills and of course along the famous Walk of Fame in Hollywood. In the afternoon you can visit Universal Studios or the Getty Museum (both optional). Overnight stay as on the previous day.
No sooner have you left the Los Angeles metropolitan area than you find yourself in the Mojave Desert. Palm Springs is an oasis, where you can take a hike through Palm Canyon (weather permitting) and enjoy the view from San Jacinto Mountain after a cable car ride. You can relax in the evening at the Miracle Springs mineral baths. Overnight stay at the hotel.
The fascinating Joshua Tree National Park with its picturesque trees that gave the park its name, yuccas, cacti and picturesque cliffs is the highlight of the day. You will explore the park on short hikes and enjoy a picnic in the Mojave Desert before continuing to Shoshone on the edge of Death Valley National Park. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Death Valley, the large, hot and hostile depression, offers diverse landscapes, great views and exciting stories. If the roads in the park are not passable, you can visit an exciting place outside with trees up to 5000 years old and reach Lone Pine in the afternoon. The nearby Alabama Hills have served as the backdrop for many western films. Overnight stay at the hotel.
The road along the Sierra Nevada offers stunning panoramic views. You visit an open-air museum in Bishop and the bizarre rock formations at Mono Lake. Strange formations of limestone and tuff characterize the shores of the alkaline lake. You reach California's best-preserved ghost town Bodie on a gravel road. Overnight stay in a hotel in a small town in the middle of the Sierra Nevada.
The deep blue Lake Tahoe is beautifully surrounded by high mountains. You go on a hike and later explore one of the gold mining towns at the foot of the Sierra Nevada. Overnight stay in a hotel.
The little-known Lassen Volcanic National Park is somewhat reminiscent of the great Yellowstone. The Lassen Peak volcano that gives the park its name last erupted in 1915 and is still active. You explore the hot and bubbling springs on a hike and marvel at the largest lava dome on earth. Via the capital of California, Sacramento, with its imposing capitol, you will travel to California's Gold Country, where you will spend the night in one of the most original places. Overnight stay in a hotel.
One of the most beautiful national parks in the USA awaits you today. You will hike between gigantic Sequoia trees and to the highest waterfalls in the country in the impressive Yosemite Valley. Overnight stay in a hotel outside the park.
The most famous wine-growing regions in California are located to the north of San Francisco: Sonoma and Napa Valley. You will have a wine tasting and drive back to San Francisco, where the tour ends with a city tour. We will be happy to reserve a hotel for you for a follow-up stay. Individual extension or journey home.
