A 1.5-hour drive from Chiang Mai lies the Chiang Chill Elephant Sanctuary, an ethical haven that allows visitors to observe and learn about elephants without any exploitation or intrusion into the lives of these magnificent beings.
On this tour, guests accompany an expert local guide on a path through the forest to watch the elephants from a safe distance. During this walk, the guide will explain why visitors here aren’t allowed to interact with the elephants directly, and can instead observe them in their natural habitats, grazing and socialising without human disruptions.
Travellers learn about an elephant’s diet and help in their food preparation before digging into a lunch of delicious Thai vegetarian food on the elephant observation deck where they can also get a view of the elephants having their meals. Visit the Karen Cultural Centre after lunch to know the history and culture of the Karen community which lives nearby. Finish the epic day with an illuminating brainstorm session about how to spread the word about elephant conservation outside of Thailand.

Spend a spectacular afternoon and early evening out around Phang Nga Bay, where you can witness the incredible natural wonder of bioluminescence and enjoy sea canoeing activities. What is bioluminescence you might ask! Well, some sea creatures can emit light and can be found in various forms in the Phang Nga Bay area. One of the most noteworthy examples is the bioluminescent plankton, a tiny organism that emits bright blue-green light due to changes in water temperature, nutrient availability, the presence of predators or other environmental stressors.
After departing from the pier, go for a sea canoe exploration at Phanak Island and Hong Island to see rock formations and hidden lagoons. Enjoy the sunset and dinner at James Bond Island before heading to observe the enchanting and memorable bioluminescence that accentuates the beauty of Phang Nga Bay’s waters even further.
