Progressing beyond the least explored region in Nepal via an off-the-beaten-path, Upper Mustang Trekking is the one of a kind approach to get acquainted with the mystical world of the time-honoured Buddhist kingdom of Mustang. Since its inception by the warrior Ame Pal in 1380; the walled city of Lo Manthang along with the ancient realm of Upper Mustang was segregated from rest of the world from the 14th century. Though limited access was granted to the Nepalese, it was still forbidden for outsiders until 1992. Consequently, this territory gained the opportunity to gradually develop and preserve its contrasting culture and classic traditions that share similarities with Tibet.
Enclosed by the snow-covered mountaintops of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Nilgiri on the north; Upper Mustang is a heaven on earth. Officially one of Nepal's restricted areas, the locale is untouched by the modern built-up as well as contemporary amenities to this time. Except for species of vegetation able to grow in waterless climate, you'll not observe any signs of other plant life here. Arid and parched yet captivating, the terrain is almost identical to that of the Tibetan plateaus. In the course 17-day long Upper Mustang Trekking, trekkers can find their delight in the beauty embracing desert-like terrain together with cliff-faced landscapes. Moreover, you'll get acquainted with the traditional lifestyle of the natives and their customs from the past while getting fascinated by the sublime architecture and artefacts showcased by several gompas, monasteries, and a four-storey royal palace. If that is not enough then brace yourselves to explore the old cave dwelling high in the rocks. Nevertheless, the trek to Upper Mustang will flood your mind with blissful reminiscences including the things that you hadn't thought of during this euphoric escapade will definitely manifest itself at some point in the future.
Although suitable for trekking activities throughout the year, Upper Mustang is an ultimate monsoon trek as it is positioned in the rain shadow of the Himalaya. So don’t just sit there; get in touch with us and arrange this awe-inspiring adventure in advance this tourist season!
