The Munich-Venezia long-distance cycle path connects cycling pleasure and crossing the Alps to the Adriatic Sea. Active pleasure cyclists can experience three countries with their tourist regions and many outstanding natural and cultural beauties on cycle paths, bike routes or small side roads. “Munich-Venice” leads from the Isar metropolis, the Bavarian lakes and rivers over the Tyrolean Inn Valley, over old railway lines, relaxed through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Dolomites and Treviso to the Doge Palaces and Canals of the lagoon city of Venice.

Day 1

Individual arrival to Munich

Individual arrival at the starting hotel in Munich. If you arrive early, use the time to explore the capital of the Free State of Bavaria. If you arrive during the Oktoberfest 20.09-05.10.2025, you will spend the night in Bad Tölz
Always along the Isar you leave Munich. It goes past monasteries, through Bavarian villages and through the Isar floodplains to the rafting town of Bad Tölz with its worth seeing old town.
From Bad Tölz, continue along the Isar to Sylvensteinsee. You cross the German-Austrian border through the Karwendel Nature Park and reach the Achensee vacation region and the mountain lake of the same name. If you wish, you can take a boat trip on the Achensee. Overnight stay depending on availability in Maurach/Jenbach/Schwaz
You start from Jenbach or Schwaz and cycle along the well-developed cycle path along the River Inn to Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol. Stroll through the historic old town, visit the famous Golden Roof or take a trip to the Bergisel with its ski jump or the Berg-Isel Museum, which commemorates the battles on the Bergisel under the supreme command of freedom fighter Andreas Hofer.
Today's route begins with a trip by train or bus to the Brenner Pass, the border between Austria and Italy and at the same time watershed and cultural axis. Only a few buildings remain as reminders of the former border. From the Brenner Pass you cycle along the old railroad line to the Fugger town of Sterzing and on to Franzensfeste. From here, the bike path leads eastward to Mühlbach at the entrance to the South Tyrolean Puster Valley.
Today you follow the cycle path along the Rienz river through the Mühlbacher Klause and further in the lower Pustertal valley to Bruneck. If there is still time in the morning, a visit to the folklore museum in Dietenheim is recommended, which documents rural life in South Tyrol, culture and customs. From Brunico you cycle on the cycle path along the river Rienz to Dobbiaco, your stage destination today.
Today you follow the cycle path on the former Dolomite railroad through the Höhlensteintal valley past Lake Dobbiaco and the war cemetery, which commemorates the First World War. Shortly after, a unique panoramic view of the rock formation of the Three Peaks opens up before you reach Lake Dürrensee. Slightly ascending, the bike path leads to the border of the two provinces of Bolzano and Belluno. Now you roll leisurely downhill on the former railroad line and reach the Dolomite town of Cortina d'Ampezzo with its fantastic mountain scenery. The former mountain village is also called the "Queen of the Dolomites", because from here you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains. So it is not surprising that the small community developed into a fashionable vacation resort already in the 19th century.
The old railroad line has been converted into a bike path. Thus, you comfortably follow the route through the Boite Valley to Pieve di Cadore. In the historic town you meet the river Piave, which you follow further south. Wonderful views await you as far as Longarone, the youngest town of your journey. Only 50 years ago, a rockfall into the reservoir caused a tidal wave to sweep through the town, destroying it in the process. Reconstruction began in the late 1960s and today only a museum recalls the disaster.
Further you follow the river Piave until shortly before Belluno (an excursion to the -little Venice in the mountains- is possible), here you leave your companion and cycle along the Lago di Santa Croce, next to Lake Garda it is the second largest lake in Veneto and because of its turquoise blue water and the sandy bathing beach a popular destination. For you, however, goes even further through the historic Vittorio Veneto to the medieval Conegliano. Magnificent villas and palazzi still characterize the look of the town today.
Now you finally leave the Alps behind and cycle through the fertile plain. Everything that tastes good is grown here, but special attention is paid to the famous radicchio, the famous red salad from Treviso. The city is also called "città delle aque" because of its branched canals in the center. Stroll along these waterways and discover many a secluded spot.
First of all, the beautiful cycling path follows the Sile River. A river only 95 kilometers long, but famous because mentioned by Dante Alighieri in the Divine Comedy. Now the destination of your journey is getting closer and closer. Quiet back roads will guide you to your accommodation on the mainland off Venice with excellent bus connections to the lagoon city. Now you can toast the journey with a glass of wine - and this is best done directly on St. Mark's Square!
