О туре

The snow-capped high-altitude peaks and serene mountain passes of Bhutan are calling. With altitude differences of 2,500m and nearly 5,000m, pristine forests home to some of the world’s most endangered species of flora and fauna, a wide range of stunning landscapes with crystalline rivers meandering through the beautiful gorges, there’s something magical about this trip that every trekker should experience for themselves.

Jomolhari Loop Trek is the most popular trekking route in Bhutan. The highlight of this 7-Day trek (Day 4-10) is the spectacular view of Mount Jomolhari from Jomolhari Basecamp (Jangothang) and interacting with semi-nomadic yak herders. Trekkers who want to avoid high passes and high altitude can chose an easier version of the Jomolhari Loop by retracing their steps from Jangothang (see Day 8, 9, 10) while still having the majestic impressions of Mount Jomolhari.

First 3 days of this trip (Day 1-3) will be spent in Paro and Thimphu visiting ancient temples and Dzongs (fortresses) and get in touch with culture and tradition of the Kingdom of Bhutan that has remained untouched for centuries. On Day 2 of this trip, you will hike to the famous Paro Taktsang or Tiger’s Nest located on the face of the 800m rock cliff.

Trip Highlights

  • 7 Days of trekking through the majestic mountains of Bhutan, glistening glacial lakes and pristine forests inhabited by some of world’s most endangered species of flora and fauna.
  • Interact and experience the life of yak herders who live semi-nomadic lifestyles at an altitude over 4,000 meters above sea level.
  • Travel to Paro and Thimphu, the two most developed towns in Bhutan and immerse yourself into the mindful Buddhist way of life, away from the materialistic world, and discover why Bhutan has earned its nickname the ‘Kingdom of Happiness’.
  • Visit ancient temples and magnificent Dzongs (fortresses) and marvel at the fine wall paintings, exquisite architecture and craftsmanship that still continue to influence the Bhutanese architecture today.
  • Hike to an 8th-century sacred site where Bhutan’s iconic landmark, 17th-century Paro Taktsang or Tiger’s Nest is located on the face of a precarious 800m rock cliff.

There are only two airlines that operate in and out of Bhutan; Drukair & Bhutan Airlines. The flight tends to get fully booked months ahead especially during the peak season. We highly recommended you book flight tickets much ahead of your departure date. You can either book the Drukair / Bhutan Airlines flight online by yourself or leave it to us if you have any trouble booking the flight, will be happy to help you in any way we can. We try to take the hassle out of our visiting guests by handling all booking process - flight tickets to/from Bhutan, visa processing, hotel reservations and all other ground handlings.

Arrive Paro International Airport - Sightseeing Paro valley (2200m)

On your arrival at Paro International Airport, our guide and driver will receive and then escort you on your first adventure in the Kingdom of Bhutan.

You'll begin by first visiting the auspicious 7th-century Kyichu Lhakhang built by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo to subdue the spirit of the demoness that was obstructing the propagation of Buddhism in the region. You'll also visit the National Museum of Bhutan housed in the 16th-century watchtower to get insight into the history and the rich cultural traditions of Bhutan.

From there, drive to visit the Paro Rinpung Dzong (Rinpung Dzong means "Fortress of the heap of jewels") originally built in 1646. Today, the Dzong serves as the office of the governor of the Paro district and head of the district monk body in Paro. A great annual festival known as Paro Tsechu is held in Rinpung Dzong from the eleventh to the fifteenth day of the second month of the traditional Bhutanese lunar calendar (usually in March or April of the Western calendar). Just below the Dzong is the traditional wooden cantilever bridge built across the Paro river (Pa Chhu). The roofed wooden cantilever bridge is built in a traditional style and this type of bridge is called Bazam. Spend some leisure time around Paro town and drive to Paro Village View Homestay or overnight.

Located at about 3.5km from the Paro International Airport, the Paro Village View Homestay is a perfect place to experience the life of an ordinary Bhutanese family. Amidst the apple orchard, this homestay offers a spectacular view of the Paro valley. Apart from comfortable accommodation and delicious home-cooked local cuisine, they also have an in-house traditional hot stone bath believed to have a therapeutic and revitalizing effect. If this homestay is fully booked, you’ll stay at Khangkhu Resort.

Hike to Paro Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) / Transfer to the capital city Thimphu (2334m)

After early breakfast at the hotel, drive to Ramthangka, the base of the Taktsang monastery. Taktsang monastery is built on the face of an 800-meter rock cliff. The round trip hike normally takes about 4-5 hours but you can hike at your pace. We recommend starting early before the sun gets stronger. The trail takes you through the ancient pilgrimage route. One-way horse riding is available for about USD20 up to the midpoint (Taktsang View Point Cafeteria) but the journey is best enjoyed on foot.

After lunch at the Taktsang Cafeteria, descend back to the base and drive to the capital city Thimphu, home to about 115,000 residents. It is the only capital city in the world without traffic lights and commercial billboards. Arriving Thimphu, you'll visit one of the largest sitting Buddha statues in the world located on a hilltop overlooking Thimphu valley.

His Majesty the King graciously granted several rare collections of philatelic and communications products giving additional insights into the history of Bhutan’s philatelic and communications systems. You can also have stamps printed with your own photo.

Visit the National Library & Archives of Bhutan considered as a national treasure and a fundamental source of Bhutanese history, religion, medicine, arts and culture. Located nearby is the National Institute for Zorig Chusum where 13 traditional arts & crafts of Bhutan are taught. You'll have an opportunity to see the students getting hands-on training. Both National Library and Institute or Zorig Chusum opens on working weekdays and on Saturdays from 10am-12pm.
