Welcome to Manaus, the entrance door to the biggest ecological reserve on the planet: the Amazon rainforest!
Manaus is a city surrounded by water, with the main roadway being the giant Rio Negro, the river that flows into the Solimoes River and creates the Amazon River. From 1890 to 1920 a regional economic boom based on the production of natural rubber brought prosperity to the city and most of Manaus’ majestic buildings and homes, including the cathedral and ornate opera house, date back to that time.
