Reisroute

Many trekkers regard this route as the most scenic section of the entire Everest Base Camp Trek. You’re really in the mountains now: Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Nuptse are just a few of the stunning peaks that tower over the trail. You’ll continue hiking past the Imja Khola; this river drains the slopes of Everest and is actually a tributary of the Dudh Koshi. Your destination for today lies where the two rivers converge at the spiritual center of the Khumbu: Tengboche. This village is best known as the site of the important Tengboche Monastery. This is the largest gompa you’ll visit during your hike, and it’s a sublime sight to behold: flanked by pines and azaleas and set against the backdrop of Ama Dablam, it’s hard to imagine a more striking setting. Make sure to step inside to check out the monastery’s exquisite murals and statuary. You’ll spend the night at a guesthouse in Tengboche.

The best thing would be to take it slow, take warm drinks, have a positive mindset, and follow your guide’s advice.

Dag 10

As you climb higher, the air starts to thin, and you find yourself struggling a bit. Walk at a slow and steady pace. Don’t rush and try to breathe rhythmically while walking.

The scenery around the trail starts getting bare and desolate. You are now trekking above the tree line, and you notice the absence of trees and greenery. There are no permanent settlements at this altitude. Lobuche is just a cluster of teahouses that local Sherpas run. But there is no shortage of incredible views as high mountains seem to rise next to the teahouses and surround the whole landscape. Have an early night as tomorrow you will be walking to your destination – Everest Base Camp.

Overnight at Guesthouse,

Dag 11

Lobuche naar Gorakshep (5180m/16990ft) - Everest Base Camp (5364m/17594ft) en terug naar Gorakshep, Loopafstand - 14 tot 15 km, Duur- 8 uur

After an early breakfast, you follow the trail to Gorakshep. Like Lobuche, Gorakshep is also sparsely populated and has only a few teahouses standing on the barren terrain. After reaching Gorakshep, you rest for a while at a teahouse and continue towards Everest Base Camp after leaving your heavy gear. You make your way through the Khumbu Glacier.

With ice formations, grey boulders, loose stones, and small craters holding pools of water, the Khumbu Glacier resembles a lunar landscape. Be careful as you may lose your footing on the scree and moraine. Soon you arrive at the Everest Base Camp. Celebrate your achievement with your guide and teammates. You are now standing directly beneath the world’s highest mountain – Mount Everest. Though you cannot see the summit, you can see part of the climbers’ route to reach Mount Everest’s summit. Explore the campsite of the Mount Everest expedition groups and Khumbu Icefall before returning to Gorakshep.

Overnight at Guesthouse,

Dag 12
