Verken oude steden, proef lokale lekkernijen en wandel door het land dat ooit werd geregeerd door Alexander de Grote. Of je nu van geschiedenis houdt, cultuur zoekt of gewoon de essentie van Griekenland wilt ervaren, dit meeslepende uitje biedt een compleet, onvergetelijk avontuur - en dat alles in minder dan een week.

Byzantijnse wandelingen
Meteora, een monument dat door UNESCO wordt gekarakteriseerd als een van de "Schatten van de Wereld" en is opgenomen in de Werelderfgoedlijst, is een must tijdens je bezoek aan Griekenland. Mis deze toptour niet naar een adembenemend geologisch fenomeen dat je zelf moet zien om het te geloven! Het begon allemaal ongeveer 60 miljoen jaar geleden en sinds ongeveer de 12e eeuw na Christus werden de rotsen geëxploiteerd door de monniken van de heilige berg Athos en bouwden ze kloosters bovenop elke rotspilaar. Elk klooster bezit een enorme rijkdom aan fresco's en iconen en is bewonderenswaardig vanwege zijn geschiedenis en architectuur, musea die een breed scala aan relikwieën en kerkelijke schatten bevatten. Onze gids leidt je door twee van de belangrijkste en best bewaarde van de in totaal zes kloosters van het complex. Na een lunchpauze in het mooie dorpje Kalambaka
gelegen aan de voet van de rotsformaties, keren we terug naar de verzamelpunten van onze excursie.

Macedonische schatten
Deze excursie combineert een archeologische tour met een bezoek aan een beroemde pelgrim/religieuze bestemming in Griekenland, de stad Veria. Tijdens je vrije tijd verken je de interessante Byzantijnse en post-Byzantijnse kerken, wandel je door de oude wijken waaronder de Joodse en proef je natuurlijk het plaatselijke snoepje revani. Daarna gaan we op weg naar Vergina of "Aegae" zoals de oude naam luidt, de eerste hoofdstad van het oude Macedonië. Samen met onze professionele gediplomeerde gids gaan we naar het Nieuwe Museum van Aigai, een poort naar de geschiedenis van de Koninklijke metropool van Macedonië, die onlangs werd ingehuldigd. Je krijgt er informatie over de geschiedenis, de cultuur en het dagelijks leven van de Macedoniërs. De tentoonstellingen richten zich op architectuur, beeldhouwkunst en grafgiften en herbergen indrukwekkende en unieke vondsten zoals oude wapens, aardewerk en kostbare sieraden. Hier bezoeken we het nieuwe museum van Aegae en de Vergina Royal Tombs, beschermd door Unesco. Na het bezoek aan het Nea Museum van Aegae vervolgen we onze excursie
naar de Koninklijke graven van Vergina, waar we, voordat we naar binnen gaan, een korte stop maken voor de lunch in Vergina Village, waar de graven zich bevinden. Grijp de kans om onder de tumulus te komen die indrukwekkende grafmonumenten bedekt zoals de koninklijke tombe van Filips II, vader van Alexander de Grote en die buitengewone gouden schatten herbergt die dateren uit de 4e eeuw voor Christus, een adembenemend decor dat voor altijd in je geheugen gegrift zal blijven.
Na ons laatste bezoek en vertrek word je afgezet bij je ophaalpunt op de geschatte aankomsttijd.
Dagen 4
Land van Aristoteles & Athos cruise
Begeleid door onze officiële gids begint de dag met het achterlaten van de Thermaïsche Golf, langs de twee meren Koronia en Volvi, waterrijke gebieden van internationaal belang, richting het oosten via de prachtige route van het kasteel van Rentina (of anders genoemd "De Macedonische Tempi") waar de tragische dichter Euripides zijn laatste adem uitblies. Kort daarna komen we aan bij de Strymonische Golf en nadat we het toeristische dorpje Stavros achter ons hebben gelaten, rijden we de regio van Chalkidiki binnen. Richting het zuiden geniet je van de prachtige route langs de kusten van noordoost Halkidiki en
het kleine eiland Kapros waar Olympiada, de moeder van Alexander de Grote, gevangen werd gehouden. Onze
eerste archeologische bezienswaardigheid is de Akropolis van het oude Stagira, de geboorteplaats van de wereldwijd bekende filosoof Aristoteles.

is onze volgende stop de kleine haven van Ouranoupolis. Vanuit deze zeehaven vervolgen we onze reis,
naar het zuiden van het schiereiland Athos, tot we de zuidgrens bereiken, waar het hoogste punt 2.033 m is.
2.033 m. Vanaf hier varen we naar het noorden, langs de westkust. Je zult van dichtbij (vanaf de boot)
afstand (vanaf de boot) de mysterieuze en wonderbaarlijke plek zien die eeuwenlang het centrum van de orthodoxie is geweest.
Orthodoxie en je komt nieuwe informatie te weten over de geschiedenis van de berg Athos en 8 van zijn kloosters.
Na onze terugkeer in de haven heb je vrije tijd voor de lunch in Ouranoupolis terwijl we genieten van het prachtige uitzicht op de Singitische Golf, Athos en Sithonia schiereilanden. Na een dag vol indrukken keren we terug naar de ontmoetingsplaatsen.
