This unforgettable wilderness trek takes you to the base of the world’s tallest peak- Mt Everest, past beautiful mountain scenery & right into the heart of the Sherpa homeland…
This venture displays the unbelievable scenery of the remote Gokyo Valley and its grandeur of beautiful turquoise lakes, mars-like glaciers, and the breathtaking Himalayan vistas that include Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu - four of the eight tallest peaks on the planet! The 360-degree view from Gokyo Ridge is the best in the Khumbu! The trek begins the same way as when hiking to Everest Base Camp. On the way, we bunk out for two nights in the village of Namche Bazaar to acclimatize. Namche is considered the trading hub for the Khumbu region, and people hike the miles from as far as Tibet every Saturday to peddle their wares down here. This is also the junction onto whom each trail converges, so yaks and people jostle for space in this bowl-shaped mountain town in the Himalayas that’s now almost comparable to sin city on the casino strips of Nevada in the USA; despite its being a remote outpost & gateway to the Himalayan Khumbu which houses the highest mountains in the world.
Your arrival into this high mountain valley called Gokyo is welcomed by a string of sapphire blue lakes that continue for the 3-hour hike to Gokyo Village, which sits at the foot of Gokyo Ri at (18,300 ft) a huge black heap of rock and silt. The next morning, you\'re invited to take the 3-hour hike to the summit of this black, rocky mound to witness the 360-degree Himalayan view offered only from this vantage point. The Himalayas stand like giants guarding the border into Tibet. From Gokyo Ri you\'ll see much more than Mount Everest – we come across glorious views of many of the other 8000-meter peaks from here as well.
The Chola pass-Everest Base Camp trek is designed for zealous trekkers who are looking for more challenging treks that involve some of the high mountain passes in the world. During this trek you will also have the option of hiking to the top of two viewpoint summits: Gokyo Ri (5357 m) and Kalapatthar (5545 m). The summit of Gokyo Ri (5,360m) provides a life time memory from where the 360 degree view of Mt. Cho Oyu, Mt. Everest and Mt. Makalu is truly panoramic. An excursion to the fourth and fifth lakes would be an extra adventure from Gokyo.
