Flight departs Keflavík at 17:30 and arrives in Kulusuk at 18:15 local time. The guide meets the group, loads luggage onto a quad trailer, and walks with everyone to the village (about 30 minutes). Overnight stay is in a local dormitory-style house.
Reisroute
Reisprogramma
Kulusuk
Startpunt
Sermersooq, Greenland
17:15 - 17:45
Tiniteqilaq - Sermilik Icefjord - Scherpe toppen.
In the morning, we shop before departing Kulusuk. We sail past Ammassalik Island's sharp peaks and through Ikaasa strait, bordered by steep mountains, arriving at Tiniteqilaq, a small village near the Sermiliq Icefjord. After a brief visit, the guide takes us across a mineral landscape to a 410m (1345ft) summit with sweeping views of the Greenland Icecap and Sermilik's icebergs. We reach our first campsite in a fjord late afternoon after a 5-hour walk.
Het tweede uitkijkpunt en de Smalle fjord
We hike up the rocky hills once more, reaching 538 meters (1765 feet) for another stunning viewpoint. After admiring Sermilik with its thousands of icebergs, we make our way down to Amitsivattiva, an incredibly narrow fjord—just a few hundred meters wide but stretching over 4 kilometers long. We set up our camp at the end of this fjord after a walk that takes about 5 to 6 hours.
Langs het meer, naar de Sapulik baai
Following breakfast, we pack our baggage boat and set off along a rugged path beside a long green-blue lake. At the far end of the lake, we cross a river that flows from a nearby glacier into the water. Another river leaves the lake, and we trace its course until reaching Sapulik, a small bay. We walk along Sapulik's shore to its narrowest point, where it opens into the Sermilik fjord, and here we set up camp. The views of the Greenland ice cap and the icebergs in the fjord are breathtaking, and there’s even a chance we’ll spot a whale. The trek takes six to seven hours.
Langs de kust van de Sermilk (Icefjord) naar het schiereiland Nuuk
As we travel north, we follow the coastline and sometimes climb the hills overlooking the shore. Occasionally, we might hear the sharp crack of an iceberg splitting the calm or catch the call of a Ringed Plover. We reach a small bay where hundreds of car-sized icebergs are stranded. Our journey leads us to a larger bay, where we wade through a river surrounded by ice in all shapes and sizes. By afternoon, we set up camp on the Nuuk peninsula after a walk that takes about six to seven hours.
Zonnepoort en Qinertivaq fjord
In the early morning, we depart from Sermilik Fjord and proceed through a narrow valley situated between steep mountains and glaciers. This route leads to Trout Lake, a small body of water encircled by mountains and glaciers that rise to approximately 1,850 meters (6,000 feet). The surrounding mountain vistas are notably impressive. At Trout Lake, the route turns northeast, crossing a glacial river that flows into the lake. Along the riverbanks, one can observe Greenland’s national flower, the Dwarf Fireweed, also known as Arctic River Beauty. The journey continues toward Qinertivaq Fjord, where the final camp is established. The day's trek covers a duration of eight hours.
Kumiiuut en Knud Rasmussen
Embark on a sailing excursion to explore the village of Kumiiuut, visit the World War II airport at Ikatek, and view the impressive floating glacial front of Knud Rasmussen Glacier in Karale Fjord—an exceptional conclusion to an outstanding trek. Upon arrival in Kulusuk, participants will take a brief tour of the village and visit a notable local museum. The day will conclude with a final celebratory dinner prepared together at our accommodation. The walking portion will cover approximately two hours.
Kulusuk - Luchthaven Keflavik
After enjoying breakfast at our house in Kulusuk, we stroll through the village and head into the surrounding hills. Along the way, you’ll discover the story of Cap Dan and its significance during the Cold War, while also taking in the unspoiled beauty of Kulusuk Island. Later, we pack up and load our bags onto the quad trailer before making our way on foot to the airport for our farewell. The flight to Keflavik is scheduled for 19:00 (7 pm), with arrival at 21:45 local time.
