Reisprogramma

Dagen 1

Touch-down in San José

Once you've touched down to San Jose, you'll be warmly welcomed by your driver and taken to your accommodation. Having settled in, you'll be able to spend some time with one of our local specialists who are always happy and excited to hear about your travel plans in Costa Rica and beyond - now's the time to make the most of their many years of local know-how and ask questions until your heart's content!

San José, located at about 3,770ft. (1,253 m.) above sea level, is a metropolitan city and sits in a high valley between green volcanic mountains. Depending on the time of your arrival in Costa Rica's capital of San Jose, you will have the rest of the day free to explore. Don't let capital intimidate you San Jose is small enough to navigate by foot and grand enough to keep you entertained all day. With some beautiful 19th century architecture buildings to admire, independently owned coffee shops brewing local beans to visit, several parks and museums to explore, there's no chance you'll miss an opportunity to enjoy authentic Costa Rican culture. If you want to save seeing the highlights of Costa Rica's charming capital city until a later moment, you can use the rest of today to walk through the colorful Mercado Central. Make sure to stop for a casado' (traditional plate of rice and beans, beef or fish, plantain and salad) or, a freshly brewed coffee and soak up the atmosphere of the Central Market.

Salsa music is something Ticos (Costa Ricans) are serious about! Tonight, go out to one of the local salsa bars where there are classes to practice the steps, or where you can just get up and learn in the field. It's a great way to meet the locals and is an important part of Costa Rican culture. If you rather leave your feet to rest, may we suggest you indulge yourself in yet another typical Costa Rican entertainment of visiting a local bar for beers & bocas' (traditional platters of smaller portion sized local meals to accompany a drink).

Meals - None.

Dagen 2

Op naar de Caribische stranden

Leaving San Jose, Set your playlist to calypso as today you will continue your journey by rental car onward to the Caribbean town of Puerto Viejo, the drive is approximately 5 hours long.

Depending on the time of your arrival to the Caribbean coastal village of Puerto Viejo and having settled into your accommodation, the rest of the day is free to stroll through town, relax at the pool, or on the palm-fringed beach. Puerto Viejo is a fascinating melting pot of Afro-Caribbean, BriBri Indian, Tico and Creole cultures as well as a significant European population made up of travelers who came to Puerto Viejo, fell in love with the town and never left. This mix of cultures gives the town a relaxed atmosphere where everyone feels at home. Depending on the time of your arrival in Puerto Viejo and having settled into your lodge, the rest of the day is free to take a stroll around town and explore some of the great, small independent shops selling local crafts. If you can't wait any longer to feel the warm, white-sand and crystal clear Caribbean waters we recommend grabbing a tuk-tuk or renting a bike and heading out to nearby Punta Uva or Cocles, where you'll find the best beaches. Tonight, thanks to the eclectic mix of cultures enjoy sitting down to some tasty European fusion restaurants in town, before the pace picks up with some lively bars that will introduce you to the Caribbean vibe! Puerto Viejo is an ideal location for exploring and relaxation and gives you the opportunity to get to know a more off the beaten path destination and the beautiful yet less developed Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.

Meals - Breakfast.

Dagen 3

Cahuita varen en natuurwandeling

Following breakfast you will be picked up from your lodge in Puerto Viejo and begin your 40 minute journey to the pristine Cahuita National Marine & Nature Park. The park is home to an incredible array of wildlife such as monkeys, sloths, raccoons, snakes and even wild cats. You'll begin today's excursion with a relaxing boat trip along the scenic Caribbean Coast of the Cahuita National Park to the colorful coral reef off the coast of Punta Cahuita. Depending on the weather, you will be kitted out in snorkeling gear to explore the transparent waters along with the pristine reef where you'll see hundreds of dazzling, multi-colored fish. Snorkeling is so great here that you'll want to stay out for a while, so please make sure to pack the sunscreen!

After your snorkeling adventure you'll have a fresh fruit snack back on the beach from where you'll start your easy-going nature trail in the National Park. Passing beautiful coral sand beaches, bays with deep blue water and a tropical rainforest with swaying palms, during the hike you'll encounter a magnificent range of flora and fauna and can always stop for a refreshing swim in the azure Caribbean waters. Throughout the hike your local, expert nature guide will point out the different flora and fauna of the area as well as provide an interesting insight to the area's Afro-Caribbean traditions. To bring this fantastic morning to an end you will sit down to enjoy a typical Afro-Caribbean lunch with of course rice and beans, in the colorful village of Cahuita, before your transfer takes you back to your lodge in Puerto Viejo. The rest of your afternoon and evening is free to spend at your leisure, relaxing on the beach, exploring the local craft shops or sipping your way through some delicious tropical cocktails while enjoying some reggae and calypso music.

Tip! Don't forget to bring sport sandals, towel, swimsuit, sun block, repellent, camera and t-shirt for snorkeling.

Please consider that in case of bad weather or bad visibility, this tour may be modified to a visit to the Cacao House that will provide insight to the tropical jungle where you'll also learn about the native indigenous culture of this area.

Meals - Breakfast, Lunch.

Dagen 4

Vrije dag op de Caraïben

Today is left free for you to choose how you would like to spend your day. If you feel like a beach day then there are plenty to choose from. Playa Salsa Brava is well-known in the surfing world and there are lessons available if you like the look of the waves. Punta Uva gives you the opportunity to enjoy snorkeling, kayaking and hiking, and Playa Cocles is just pure Caribbean bliss. You can easily rent a bicycle to explore the area or take a horse riding tour. Other activities that we recommend are a visit to the Sloth Sanctuary, a haven for any of the region's injured or orphaned wild sloths. Reserve your place to explore these fascinating mammals and have the opportunity to meet and photograph some of the adult and baby sloths. If you've got a bit of a sweet tooth you can enjoy a tour at an organic chocolate farm where you'll of course be able to try some of the delicious products. The indigenous culture of Costa Rica is especially strong on the Caribbean Coast and we highly recommend taking the opportunity to meet with the local Bri Bri tribe where you'll learn about their language, lifestyle and culture before visiting a spectacular nearby waterfall. Another great option we like is experiencing a Caribbean cooking class at a local home. Also a great activity is a morning tour to the local wildlife sanctuary of the Jaguar Rescue Center and afterwards enjoy lunch and relax on the beach loungers at the Beach Club Noa at Cocles beach.

Meals - Breakfast.

Dagen 5

Reis naar de Arenal vulkaan

Leaving Cahuita, you will continue your journey by rental car onward to Arenal, the drive is approximately 6 hours long.

As you approach the town of La Fortuna, one of the first things you'll see is the Arenal Volcano. Although it is no longer spewing out hot lava your first sighting of the sleeping giant will always be the most memorable as it rises up high above the surrounding landscape. Depending on the time of your arrival to the town of La Fortuna, situated at the foot of the Arenal Volcano and having settled in to your accommodation, the rest of the day is free to explore or relax.

If you're ready to start your Costa Rica adventure in La Fortuna, one of our favorite optional activities is the frog & cultural exchange night tour (not included). You will spend the evening at the home of Don Oscar and his family who own an amazing property with beautiful gardens and rainforest. An expert nature guide will take you out along the property trails as the sun goes down to help you spot nocturnal wildlife at this magical time of night. Here you will get eye to eye with Costa Rica's famous frogs and is a great introduction to the wildlife of this region. Afterwards you will sit down for a typical home cooked meal prepared on a wood burning stove.

Meals - Breakfast.

Dagen 6

Arenal Hanging Bridges Tocht

This morning you will be picked up from your hotel to embark on an unforgettable Sky Hike. As the name suggests, the hike will take you high up into the verdant forest surrounding the Arenal Volcano at the Arenal Reserve. As you climb higher and higher, going deeper and deeper into the rainforest, you'll have great views of the rainforest canopy, the huge Arenal Volcano, the glistening Arenal Lake as well as Arenal's surrounding mountain range. Accompanied by a nature guide you'll gain a unique insight into the native flora and fauna that you'll hopefully be seeing today. If you're not afraid of heights, during the Sky Walk make sure to look down as you walk across the hanging metal bridges as you'll get incredible views down into the rainforest below. One of the most unique features of the hanging bridges is that many take you right alongside the canopy of tall rainforest trees. Some of the bridges have even been colonized by the neighboring trees that drape their woody lianas over the ramparts. Today is the perfect day to bring your binoculars, for here's your chance to spot birds and howler monkeys which will be at your own eye level!

Arriving back in the town of La Fortuna, the rest of the afternoon is free for you to relax or take an optional excursion. After a morning hike, we recommend taking a soak at the hot springs warmed by the heart of the Arenal Volcano. Many of the area's best hot springs are situated just at the foot of the Arenal Volcano which means that you can enjoy looking up at the mighty volcano while soaking in the warm waters rich in minerals while listening to the calls of the rainforest around youthis is truly a heavenly experience!

Meals - Breakfast.

Dagen 7

Varen in het Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge

Today you will be picked up from your accommodation by a bilingual nature guide who will accompany you on a full-day excursion. You will drive to the Caño Negro Nature Reserve, located in the northern part of Costa Rica. The Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge is one of the most important reserves for bird watching and year-round observation of wildlife in Costa Rica. This wildlife-rich wetland area of almost 25,000 acres (10,000 hectares), is flooded in the rainy season by the Rio Frio, which cuts through the refuge, making it an ideal waterway for guided boat tours. Boarding a boat, you'll navigate your way through what is considered one of the most important conservations sites in the world. Made up of wetlands, rainforest and swampland there are more than 200 species of bird that come to this one area. The most famous being the endangered Jabiru Stork which is the tallest flying bird in Latin America... if you're here during the dry season (February-April) you will have a chance of seeing them. But you can also very much appreciate many other types of birds. If you're not such a fan of birds then don't worry. As you silently cruise the Rio Frio, this area will reveal all kinds of wildlife from capuchin monkeys, sloths and iguanas too, river turtles, caiman and the basilisk, also called Christ Lizard as it can walk on water. Caño Negro will provide you with some amazing photo opportunities so make sure your camera is fully charged! Following your amazing wildlife tour a delicious riverside lunch will be served, before you will be transferred back to your Arenal hotel.

The evening is free for you to relax or take an optional excursion. We recommend taking a soak at the hot springs warmed by the heart of the Arenal Volcano. Many of the area's best hot springs are situated just at the foot of the Arenal Volcano which means that you can enjoy looking up at the mighty volcano while soaking in the warm waters rich in minerals while listening to the calls of the rainforest around youthis is truly a heavenly experience!

Tip: Don't forget to bring photocopy of your passport, sunscreen, insect repellent, hat and camera.

Class Adventure Travel reserves the right at any time to cancel or change any of the facilities, services or prices (including flights, accommodation or other arrangements) and to substitute alternative arrangements of comparable monetary value without compensation. If a major change becomes apparent, the Client will be told at the time of the booking. If a major change becomes necessary after booking, Class Adventure Travel will inform the Clients as soon as reasonably possible. When a major change is made the Client will have the choice of accepting the change of arrangements, purchasing any other available tour, or canceling the tour and obtaining a full refund **PROVIDED THAT THE MAJOR CHANGE IS NOT BECAUSE OF FORCE MAJEURE** (please see the following definition of Force Major).

Force Majeure

Force majeure is defined as and includes: natural disasters (earth quakes, floods etc), an act of war, threat of war, riots, civil unrest, industrial dispute, terrorist activities, nuclear disaster, fire or adverse weather conditions, technical or maintenance problems with transport, changes imposed by cancellation or rescheduling of flights by an airline, the alteration of airline or aircraft type, or other similar events beyond the control of Class Adventure Travel.

Limitation of liability

Class Adventure Travel, its employees and stakeholders do not own or operate any entity which provides services for its tours. All transportation, accommodation, restaurants, tour services etc, are independent and are purchased by Class Adventure Travel for the tour package. Class Adventure Travel acts only in the capacity of an agent upon the legal conditions that, while exercising every possible precaution, it is not responsible for injury, sickness, damage, loss, additional expenses, accidental delay, or other irregularities which may be caused either through willful or negligent acts or omissions made by the companies or individuals providing or engaged in transportation, accommodation or other services related to the accomplishment of the tour, or through illness, disease or force majeure (as defined in the above section) such as natural disasters, social upheavals or other causes. In the event of force majeure, illness or disease Class Adventure Travel is not liable for any charges in the event of cancellation of the tour or part of the tour, downgrading, or a change (beyond their control) to the departure time or date of a tour, flight or other form of transport. Class Adventure Travel is not responsible for any damage to property, injury, death or financial or physical loss or illness during the tour. Class Adventure Travel advices all passengers to ensure that they are fully insured for their trip and to be aware that travel in South America can be dangerous. The Client assumes all risks associated with participating in their tour.

Surcharges

Class Adventure Travel reserves the right to increase the tour cost to take into account the following items: government actions, currency, transportation costs – including the cost of fuel, overflying charges, airport charges and increases in scheduled air fares. If the surcharge results in an increase of more than 10% of the tour cost, the Client may cancel the booking within seven days of receiving notification of the surcharge by Class Adventure Travel and obtain a full refund. No surcharge will be imposed within 60 days of departure.

Special Requests

Special requests made by the Client, such as adjacent or connecting rooms, bedding requests, smoking rooms and special dietary requirements should be advised at time of booking. Please note that though Class Adventure Travel will make every effort to organize any special requests they cannot be guaranteed. Please note that if single accommodation is requested, a single supplement fee will be included in the quote. Single rooms may not always be available.

Changes to booking after initial deposit

Charges may apply to modifications requested by the client after the payment of the initial deposit. This does not include additional services or days in addition to those already paid for in the initial deposit. All changes that disrupt the chronological order of the booking and/or currently booked hotels or services may result in a supplemental booking fee.

Client Refunds

Any refunds due to the Client will be made in the same manner in which they were paid, and are subject to any service fees, transaction fees, or any other charges that the relevant bank, or other 3rd party service provider, may apply.

Passports, Visas and Vaccinations

It is the responsibility of the Client to be in possession of a valid passport (which must be valid for at least six months from their arrival date in each of the countries they are traveling to), all necessary visas, inoculations and preventive medicines as may be required for the duration of the tour. Information about these matters is given in good faith in our FAQ section, but without responsibility on the part of Class Adventure Travel. Government Policy towards acquiring a Visa changes and inoculations can change at any time for citizens of different countries all around the globe; it is the client’s obligation to request information in writing for any Visa needed for entry into any country in South America. Payment of any fees due upon entering or leaving a county is the sole responsibility of the client and is not included in the package price. Departure tax and airport taxes are not included in the price of the package and are the sole responsibility of the client (though some airport taxes may be included in the price of the airline ticket). Class Adventure Travel is not responsible for any incidental expenses or consequential losses that the Client may have incurred as a result of the booking such as visas, vaccinations, non-refundable flights or rail, non refundable car parking or other fees, loss of earnings, or loss of enjoyment, etc.

Age, Fitness and Participation

All Clients are expected to ensure themselves that they are fit and able to complete the itinerary of their choosing prior to booking. Persons over 60 years of age are advised to obtain medical evidence of fitness to travel on their chosen itinerary. No unaccompanied minors (those under 18 years of age) can be accepted on tours operated by Class Adventure Travel .Class Adventure Travel reserves the absolute right to decline a booking at their discretion. Clients agree to accept the authority and decisions of Class Adventure Travel employees, tour leaders and agents whilst on the tour with Class Adventure Travel . If in the opinion of such person the health or conduct of a Client before or after departure appears likely to endanger the safety, comfort or progress of a tour, the Client may be excluded from all or part of the tour. During travel in South America the Client may experience extreme conditions such as high altitude, high temperatures or low temperatures. It is the responsibility of the Client to ensure that they are prepared for these eventualities and Class Adventure Travel accepts no responsibility for illness, damage to possessions or health or inability to complete all or part of the tour due to such factors.

Baggage restrictions and responsibility

The Client is entirely responsible for their own baggage at all times and must ensure that they comply with all size and weight restrictions imposed by airlines for both domestic and international flights, as well as on any other mode of transportation related to the tour. It is the Client’s responsibility to ensure that all luggage and personal effects are fully insured and Class Adventure Travel accepts no responsibility for loss of, damage to, or any costs or inconveniences as a result of the loss of, or damage to baggage or personal effects.

Local laws

All participants in tours operated by Class Adventure Travelare expected to obey the laws and regulations of the countries visited and any failure to do so will relieve Class Adventure Travel of any and all obligations that they may otherwise have under these booking conditions.

Illness or disability

Anyone with suffering from illness or disability or undergoing treatment for any physical or medical condition must declare the true nature of such condition at the time of booking and make arrangements for the provision of any medication or other treatment which may be required during the tour. Failure to make such disclosure will constitute a breach of these booking conditions and result in such persons being excluded from the tour in which case all monies paid will be forfeit. If the chosen holiday includes a cruise or excursion or transfer by boat of any sort the Client must make it known at the time of booking if he/she is unable to swim. This will not prevent the Client from participating in the tour but will enable Class Adventure Travel to take additional precautions for the Client’s safety at such times as may be appropriate. Anyone with dietary restrictions, food allergies or otherwise, assumes full responsibility for ensuring that their own needs and requirements are met. Whilst Class Adventure Travel will make every effort to ensure that client in catered for wherever possible, it is not always possible to provide alternative meals or ensure that food is prepared entirely free of certain elements (such as nuts). In the event of any illness or loss of enjoyment resulting from such issues Class Adventure Travel assumes no responsibility.

If the Client has a Complaint

If the Client has a complaint about any of the tour elements or services he/she must bring it to the attention of the tour leader or other representative of Class Adventure Travel at the time so that they can make their best effort to rectify the situation. It is only if/when Class Adventure Travel is made aware of any problems that there will be the opportunity to make any necessary changes to rectify the problem. Failure to complain on the spot will result in the Client’s ability to claim compensation from Class Adventure Travel being nullified, or at least reduced. Should the problem remain unsolved, a complaint must be submitted in writing to Class Adventure Travel within 28 days of the completion of the travel.

Flight Bookings

Class Adventure Travel will make its best effort to ensure that all flight prices are correct at the time that they are quoted. Airlines reserve the right to amend or withdraw fares without prior notice. Once a deposit is paid on an airfare, it guarantees that a booking is being held for you, but it DOES NOT GUARANTEE the fare. The fare can only be guaranteed when the flight booking has been paid for in full and a ticket has been issued. Flight bookings cannot be transferred. The flight times given by Class Adventure Travel are for general guidance only and are subject to change. Up-to-date flight times will be shown on the tickets. The Client must check the tickets very carefully immediately upon receipt of the latest timings. Class Adventure Travel will attempt to inform the Client as soon as possible in the event of any flight alteration. Details of airlines are also subject to change. Such alterations do not constitute a significant change to the travel arrangements and will therefore not be entitled to cancellation without paying the normal charges as a result. Class Adventure Travel cannot be held responsible for any delay to your flight whether this delay is caused by adverse weather conditions, the action of air traffic controllers, airport authorities or (local) governments, the rescheduling of flight times by the airline, mechanical breakdown, strike, industrial action or any other reason

Travel insurance

Travel insurance is highly advisable for all Clients traveling on a tour organized by Class Adventure Travel. Clients together with their personal property including baggage are at all times solely at their own risk. Clients are wholly responsible for arranging their own insurance. A suitable insurance policy should provide adequate cover for medical expenses arising through illness or accident prior to or during travel and loss of travel monies through cancellation or curtailment of the holiday for insurable reasons. Clients should ensure that there are no exclusion clauses limiting protection for the type of activities in their tour. Clients should satisfy themselves that any travel insurance arranged is what they require and should arrange supplementary insurance if need be. Travel insurance is able to protect you against any losses due to any changes that may occur prior to your travels, as well as providing security for the duration of your travels. Class Adventure Travel can provide travel insurance through ITravelInsured. However, Class Adventure Travel acts only as an agent for this company and accepts no responsibility for any issues that arise between the client and the company (ITravelInsured). All dealings with and claims made must be directed at and discussed with ITravelInsured and not with Class Adventure Travel.
