Reisroute
Breng een aantal dagen door in het hart van Costa Rica's zeeschildpaddenbeschermingsprogramma, leer over de bedreigingen voor hun overleving en wat we zowel in Costa Rica als thuis kunnen doen om te helpen met hun bescherming. We zijn getuige van het nestelen van zeeschildpadden in een natuurlijke omgeving en nemen deel aan een optionele strandopruiming die de hoeveelheid plastic in de oceaan vermindert.
Onze aanwezigheid op deze unieke locaties zorgt ervoor dat levende zeeschildpadden veel waardevoller zijn voor de lokale economie dan schildpadeieren die op de zwarte markt worden verkocht.
Costa Rica is wereldleider op het gebied van natuurbehoud, maar helaas is de schildpaddenpopulatie sinds 1980 met 90% afgenomen. Tijdens je reis werk je als vrijwilliger samen met natuurbeschermers om hun voortbestaan te garanderen en bezoek je inspirerende plaatsen en mensen die dieren redden en het regenwoud beschermen.
Wat je precies doet om te helpen hangt af van wanneer je komt. Tijdens het broedseizoen (zie kalender op pagina 4) graven we uitgebroede nesten op om het succespercentage te bepalen, maken we het strand schoon en laten we babyschildpadjes weer vrij in de oceaan. We gaan ook 's nachts op patrouille om naar nestelende vrouwtjes te zoeken. Tijdens het broedseizoen zullen de nachtelijke patrouilles
waar we op zoek gaan naar nestelende vrouwtjes en de eieren verzamelen en ze veilig naar de broederij brengen. Op alle tochten patrouilleren we met internationale zeebiologen en genieten we van duurzaam toerisme.

Rijd naar de kust en ontmoet de natuurbeschermers
Enjoy a classic Costa Rican breakfast and freshly brewed local coffee before driving through the mountains to our new home on the coast. We’ll receive a briefing about the work of sea turtle conservationists before embarking on a night patrol to scope the nesting area. Sample patrol times include 10pm - 1am, and 1am-4am. (B,L,D)

Optionele strandopruiming & nachtpatrouilles
After an optional beach clean up for those interested, we'll have a talk to learn more about the hatchery and why it's used. We will learn firsthand how to dig a sea turtle nest so we are ready for when we have eggs from our night patrol and need to put them in the hatchery for safety. (B,L,D)

Ontmoet "Jungle Mike" en leer over bijenteelt
Meet the infamous Jungle Mike and learn about the diverse insect kingdom of Costa Rica as you explore an open air butterfly farm and jungle path. Afterwards, sample various organic honeys that are locally harvested. In the evening, head out for another sea turtle patrol along the beach. (B,L,D)

Bezoek een klein vissersdorpje voor een vrije middag
We'll head out after breakfast to a local fishing village where we'll learn about their way of life and the battle they fight against large commercial fishing vessels. Learn to make educated choices when buying sustainable seafood, and even get a treat as you enjoy a fresh fish lunch prepared by
the local women. The afternoon is then free to rest up for patrol and we'll enjoy a nice dinner by the beach before the final night of patrol. (B,L,D)

Ontmoet grote katten in een dierenopvangcentrum
Today we’ll return to the region around Liberia. After driving a few hours, we will visit an animal rescue center that rehabilitates endangered wildlife such as pumas, ocelots, and even jaguars. After lunch, continue on to a mountainside hacienda and arrive to our accommodations before dark. (B,L,D)

Zip-Line door de bomen en Tube langs de Rio Colorado
Feel the adrenaline as you fly through the treetops on a zip-line course of 8 different lines. Then we’ll cool off by tubing down the Rio Colorado. Spin and bounce your way down river, getting drenched by the cool mountain waters. Hang on tight over the 6-foot waterfall and keep your eyes peeled for monkeys foraging for food in the treetops above the canyon. You’ll definitely work up an appetite for lunch. After lunch, enjoy the warm spring pools or paint on some volcanic mud for a treat for your skin and wash it all away with an exhilarating jump in the river. At night we’ll enjoy a farewell dinner together to reflect on the amazing memories
we’ve collected over the past week. (B,L,D)

Terugkeer naar huis
Wake up with breakfast at the lodge. Travelers will be taken to the airport in time for their flights home. (B)

Terms and Conditions
Certain portions of the program fee are refundable, depending on the date of the refund request. If a participant chooses to withdraw for any reason prior to the departure, Discover Corps must be notified in writing. The refund will be calculated according to the date in which Discover Corps receives this notification.
Refund Policy
The amount of your refund is based on how far in advance from the start date of the trip you notify us of your cancellation.
More than five months prior, everything is refundable!
Less than five months prior, 75% of program fee is refundable, except non-refundable $30 registration fee. There is no fee to change trip destination or start date.
Less than four months prior, 50% of program fee is refundable, except non-refundable $30 registration fee. $100 fee to change trip destination or start date.
Less than three months prior, 25% of program fee is refundable, except non-refundable $30 registration fee. $395 fee to change trip destination or start date.
Less than two months prior, the program fee is non-refundable. Changes to trip destination or start date are not possible and will be subject to refund policy.
If the balance has not been paid in full, the above percentages apply to all monies paid at the date of cancellation.
NOTE: Participants who have purchased trip cancellation insurance will be refunded by the insurance company until the departure date of the program.
