Bij aankomst bezoek je de tempel van Kom Ombo; de tempel van Kom Ombo staat op een voorgebergte in een bocht in de Nijl, waar in de oudheid heilige krokodillen zich koesterden in de zon aan de oever van de rivier. Het is een van de mooist gelegen tempels van de Nijlvallei. Deze tempel is uniek in Egypte en is gewijd aan twee goden: de plaatselijke krokodillengod Sobek en Haroeris (van har-wer), wat Horus de Oudere betekent.

Aankomst in Edfu en bezoek de Edfu Tempel; deze Ptolemeïsche tempel, gebouwd tussen 237 en 57 voor Christus, is een van de best bewaarde oude monumenten in Egypte. De tempel is bewaard gebleven door het woestijnzand dat de plaats vulde nadat de heidense cultus werd verboden. De tempel is gewijd aan Horus, de wrekende zoon van Isis en Osiris. Met zijn intacte dak is het ook een van de meest sfeervolle gebouwen uit de oudheid.

Bezoek Luxor en de Karnak Tempel als de cruise vroeg genoeg in Luxor aankomt of wordt toegevoegd aan de bezoeken van de volgende dag.

Karnak tempel; Karnak is een buitengewoon complex van heiligdommen, kiosken, pylonen en obelisken gewijd aan de Thebaanse triade maar ook aan de grotere glorie van de farao's. De site beslaat meer dan 2 vierkante kilometer en is groot genoeg om ongeveer 10 kathedralen te bevatten. In het hart staat de Tempel van Amon, het aardse 'thuis' van de plaatselijke god. Karnak werd gebouwd, uitgebreid, ontmanteld, gerestaureerd, vergroot en gedecoreerd gedurende bijna 1500 jaar en was de belangrijkste plaats van aanbidding in Egypte tijdens het Nieuwe Rijk.

Luxor Tempel; Grotendeels gebouwd door de farao's Amenhotep III (1390-1352 v.Chr.) en Ramses II (1279-1213 v.Chr.) uit het Nieuwe Rijk, is deze tempel een opvallend sierlijk monument in het hart van de moderne stad. De tempel, ook wel bekend als het Zuidelijke Heiligdom, had zijn belangrijkste functie tijdens de jaarlijkse Opet vieringen, toen de beelden van Amun, Mut en Khonsu vanuit Karnak, langs de Laan der Sfinxen, werden gebracht en hier tijdens de inundatie werden herenigd.

Queen Hatshepsut’s Mortuary Temple; At Deir Al Bahri, the eyes first focus on the dramatic rugged limestone cliffs that rise nearly 300m above the desert plain, only to realize that at the foot of all this immense beauty lies a monument even more extraordinary, the dazzling Temple of Hatshepsut. The almost-modern-looking temple blends in beautifully with the cliffs from which it is partly cut – a marriage made in heaven. Most of what you see has been painstakingly reconstructed.

Colossi of Memnon; The two faceless Colossi of Memnon, originally representing Pharaoh Amenhotep III, rising majestically about 18m from the plain, are the first monuments tourists see when they visit the west bank. These magnificent colossi, each cut from a single block of stone and weighing 1000 tonnes, sat at the eastern entrance to the funerary temple of Amenophis III, the largest on the west bank. Egyptologists are currently excavating the temple and their discoveries can be seen behind the colossi. transfer you to Luxor train station to catch the overnight train to Cairo.

Then move to visit the important church Simon the Tanner (fl. 10th century), also known as Saint Simon the Shoemaker (Sam’ān al-Kharrāz) is the Coptic Orthodox saint associated with the story of the moving the Mokattam Mountain in Cairo, during the rule of the Muslim Fatimid Caliph al-Muizz Lideenillah (953-975) while Abraham the Syrian was the Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria. Simon the Tanner lived towards the end of the tenth century and many Coptic Christians in Egypt, who were also engaged in handicrafts. Saint Simon worked in tanning, a craft known there till this day. This profession involved other crafts that depend on the process, from when Simon carried several titles related to skins: Tanner, Cobbler, and Shoemaker.
