Wijn en cultuur aan de prachtige Blauwe Donau
Hier in de Wachau is de Donau nog mooier dan waar dan ook. Het milde klimaat en de steile heuvels maken het gebied ideaal voor boom- en wijngaarden. In onze wandelweek is de langeafstandswandelroute Werelderfgoedroute Wachau langs de bergkammen van de Donauvallei uitgezet. Op de afwisselende wandelroutes kun je genieten van prachtige uitzichten op een van de oudste cultuurlandschappen van Oostenrijk met karakteristieke wijngaarden, abrikozentuinen en de indrukwekkende Donaustroom in het dal. Een afwisselende wandeling voert langs steile rotsen, over zachte heuvels en door aromatische wijngaarden. Kleine gehuchtjes stippelen het landschap uit en naast de beroemde wijn behoren heerlijke abrikozendelicatessen tot de opmerkelijke regionale specialiteiten.
Wijn, cultuur en natuur vormen een unieke symfonie tijdens een wandelvakantie in de Wachau. Vanaf de bergketens in de Donauvallei heb je een uniek uitzicht over de grootste rivier van Oostenrijk en een van de oudste cultuurlandschappen van het land, de Wachau. Onderweg langs de langeafstandswandelroute die op de Werelderfgoedlijst staat, kom je langs mooie stadjes en wijndorpjes zoals Weißenkirchen, Spitz en Krems.
Je begint je wandelweek met je individuele aankomst in Krems. De UNESCO Werelderfgoedstad heeft kronkelende straatjes en wijnmakerijen. Je wandelvakantie begint de volgende dag al met de eerste wandeling naar Dürnstein. De route voert je via Weißenkirchen en Spitz naar Melk, voordat je per boot over de Donau terugkeert naar Krems. Elke dag wandel je tussen de 12 en 14 kilometer en beklim je verschillende toppen van de Wachau, die niet hoog maar wel steil zijn. Zekerheid is daarom op sommige stukken een voordeel.

Krems - Dürnstein, "in de wijngaarden
Walk up into the vineyards to the tower with view on blue Danube, the city Krems and impressing monastery Göttweig. Cross the hills to the cozy Fesslhütte and reach the Dürnstein ruins on a trail with great views before reaching the banks of the Danube.

Day 3
Dürnstein - Weißenkirchen, regio Wachau
Take the ferry from Dürnstein to Rossatz. Continue past the largest apricot growing area of Austria, on old tracks up to Seekopf with stunning views to the Alps. Optional take a walk along Danube through orchards to the ferry.

Day 4
Rustdag Weißenkirchen, "Wachau Dolce Vita
Surrounded by sunny vineyards and green forests the mighty gothic parish church of Weißenkirchen is remarkable sight. The wine grower villages Joching, Wösendorf and St. Michael form together with Weißenkirchen the biggest wine grower community of Wachau. Visit museums, beautiful walking trails or take a boat tour on Danube. Enjoy a glass of Wachauer wine in one of the wine taverns. Or do a short hike on the Achleiten circuit to stop by the winegrower!

Day 5
Weißenkirchen - Spitz, "Observatieplatform Buschandlwand".
The wine trail leads you out of Weißenkirchen, past small cellar alleys and up into the unique wine landscape high above the Danube. On the World Heritage Trail, you hike through the heart of the Wachau. At the landmark of Spitz, the “Red Gate”, you descend into the famous wine village beside the Danube.

Day 6
Spitz - Melk, 'Ruin Aggsbach'.
Cross the Danube by ferry to Maria Langegg. Here you follow St. Jacob’s trail to ruin Aggsbach. Visit the fortress with scenic views across the Danube valley and stop for a snack. Down you walk to Aggsbach where you catch the coach to Melk.

Day 7
Melk - Krems, "Donauvaart
Visit the impressive monastery with beautiful grounds before you board the Danube boat. During the cruise to Krems you pass the highlights of the week, see all the vineyards as well as Spitz and Dürnstein.
