Tour program

Day 1

Welkom op Cyprus

From Larnaca airport, you drive to your hotel in Agros. In the evening we get to know each other over a welcome drink. (A)
Today we drive to Troodos. At just under 2,000 m, Olympos is the highest peak in Cyprus. At the same time, rock formations that are otherwise only found on the seabed come to light in several places. They are therefore part of the oceanic crust of Cyprus. We hike along an enchanted mountain and forest landscape with weather-bent black pines, stately junipers and bizarre rock formations. The exposed location of this nature trail around Mount Olympus offers a fantastic panorama and magnificent views over the island along the way. (F, A) ICON_UP 40 m, ICON_DOWN 40 m, ICON_DURATION approx. 3 hrs.
Two of the most beautiful barn-roof churches on the island are the start and end point of our hike today. The church of Stavros tou Agiasmati enchants us with its Byzantine frescoes. From here, a steady ascent through sparse pine forest leads us to the highest point of today's hike at 1,200 meters. The trail continues gently up and down and our gaze wanders over artfully terraced vineyards. Further down, we reach the village of Laghoudhera with the barn-roofed church of Panagia tou Araka dating back to 1192. We enjoy a rustic picnic at the former monastery complex. (F, P, A) ICON_UP 45 m, ICON_DOWN 35 m, ICON_DURATION approx. 3.5 hrs.
We hike along the path of Persephone, the goddess of spring, at an altitude of 1,720 m. From the slopes of Mount Olympus, there are always new views over the mountains, most of which are covered in pine trees. Continue along the Kaledonia nature trail to the waterfalls of the same name and from there along the stream bed to the mountain village of Platres. After a refreshment break with typical meze and delicious wine, we end the day with a visit to Omodos, one of the most beautiful wine villages in Cyprus. We then drive to our hotel in Paphos. (F, M, A) ICON_UP 600 m, ICON_DOWN 300 m, ICON_DURATION approx. 3 hrs.
Use today to recover from the last few days, or join us on an optional excursion to ancient Kourion. We will see the early Christian basilica, the ancient theater and the house of Eustolios with its impressive mosaics. In the archaeological park of Kato Paphos, we have the opportunity to visit the royal tombs from the Hellenistic period and admire the development of mosaic art from the Hellenistic to the Roman period in the famous houses of the Roman Forum (Dionysus, Theseus, Achilles, Aion). Not far from the Roman Forum is the site around the Chrysopolitissa Church with the Column of St. Paul, where different religious periods followed one another. Enjoy some free time at the harbor. Before we drive back to the hotel we visit the church of Ayia Paraskevi with its valuable frescoes from different eras. (F, A)
We drive east to a beautiful organic garden with a private house in the village of Episkopi. We are greeted by Christos, who proudly presents his herbs and fruits to us as we stroll through his huge garden. The scent of local herbs such as thyme, oregano, physalis and lemongrass reaches us. We discover berries and other wonderful gifts of nature. He shows us how he cultivates and develops the garden with the help of nature alone. A tasting is a must. We enjoy natural herbal and fruit tea as well as local homemade organic jam, which couldn't be healthier. The owner, who is also a chef, even reveals the secret recipe for his jam. We then continue to the Aphrodite Rock, also known as Petra tou Romiou. According to mythology, this is where Aphrodite, the goddess of love, was born from the foam of the sea and stepped onto her beloved island. From here we start a wonderful hike along the south-western coast of Cyprus. We follow in the footsteps of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, and always have a magnificent view of the turquoise sea and the rugged coastline. With over 130 endemic plants, Cyprus is a paradise for botanists and nature lovers. At the end of the hike, we are rewarded with a tasty picnic with Cypriot specialties and wine. (F, P, A) ICON_UP 80 m, ICON_DOWN 50 m, ICON_DURATION approx. 2 hrs.
Today you have another choice - relaxation or activity. Today we have the option of hiking in the west of the island on the Smigies hiking trail with beautiful views of the municipality of Polis Chrysochous and the forest of Paphos. During the hike, we can let our gaze wander over the bay and to the coast of the Akamas peninsula. Past the abandoned magnesium mines, the path leads us through the dense Akamas forest. The yellow flowering rodwort, also known as the "staff of Prometheus", is particularly striking here. The demigod is said to have once placed some embers from Olympus in the hollowed-out plant stem and thus brought fire to mankind. The destination of our hike is Smigies. We enjoy a snack at the Baths of Aphrodite with a view of the Akamas coast. At the end of the day, we visit the hermitage and adjoining monastery community of the local patron saint, St. Neophytos, on Bee Mountain. Return to the hotel via the villages of Tala and Kissonerga. (F, A) ICON_UP 90 m, ICON_DOWN 70 m, ICON_DURATION approx. 3 hrs.
On the way to Larnaca Airport, you can admire the diversity of Cyprus once again. You fly back to your departure airport and start your journey home full of new impressions. (F) Flight schedule, hotel and program are subject to change. (F=breakfast, P=picnic, M=lunch, A=dinner)
