Day 1

Reizen naar Warschau

You have the choice of traveling to Warsaw by plane or by train from Berlin. We will get in the mood for the trip over dinner together. (A)

Day 2

Van Warschau naar Nikolaiken

Warsaw surprises us: the city, which was almost completely destroyed in the Second World War, shows us its traditional and modern face. We get an accurate picture: we start our tour at Lazienki Park with the Chopin Monument. Via the Royal Route, past embassies and government buildings, to Warsaw Castle ─ rebuilt and now a center of attraction in the lively old town in its early Baroque form. Next to the monument to the heroes of the Warsaw ghetto, we visit the new museum to remember centuries of Polish-Jewish history. We spend the evening in Mikolajki (Nikolaiken). 220 km (F, A)

Day 3

Rondreis door Mazurië

"Suleyken was so tender!" We remember the beautiful stories when we explore Lake Spirding, the largest in Masuria, by boat. Then the Wolf's Lair near Ketrzyn (Rastenburg), an eerie place. Amidst the ruins of the former bunkers, now covered in moss and lichen, there is a small memorial to July 20, 1944. Chapels along the way greet us on the way to the pilgrimage site of Swieta Lipka (Holy Linden). We end the day with a short organ concert in the baroque pilgrimage church. 160 km (F, A)

Van Mazurië naar Gdansk

Let's look forward to the lively city of Olsztyn, the capital of the Warmia-Masuria region. The city was built around the imposing Gothic castle of the Warmian canons. In Malbork (Marienburg), the most powerful fortress in Europe in the Middle Ages, we delve into the history and culture of the Teutonic Order. The Grand Master's Palace in particular, with its battlements and towers, embodies the former splendor of the court. In the evening in Gdansk we enjoy a good meal in a restaurant on the Motlawa (Motlawa River). 230 km (F, A)

The mighty Hanseatic city of Gdansk shows itself from its best side: behind the magnificent gates, we explore an incomparably cohesive cityscape. The Royal Route leads us through alleyways adorned with patrician houses via the Long Market to the Artus Court. From St. Mary's Church, we walk through Frauengasse to Krantor, the city's landmark. And on our excursion into the city's history, we repeatedly come across real traces and stories of Günter Grass, who was born here in 1927. On the site of the Gdansk shipyard, we return to the world-shaking events of recent Polish history in the "European Solidarnosc Center". Your alternative: If you are more interested in the history of the city, you can enjoy the collections of the Historical Museum. (F)

Van Gdansk naar Poznan

We owe nothing less than our "world view" to him: Copernicus was born in Torun (Thorn). We should remember this as we wander through the city center, which resembles a medieval open-air museum with many towers. Gothic town houses, old granaries, all beautifully situated on the Vistula. And then we explore the old town of Poznan. The "Stary Rynek" ─ the central square with its burgher houses ─ looks very cozy and almost provokes us to have dinner in one of the many restaurants and try a good Polish beer. 310 km (F)

Van Poznan naar Wroclaw

And another large, medieval rynek: it is the heart of the chessboard-like old town of Wroclaw. We are delighted by the restored town houses grouped around the Gothic town hall. We walk over bridges to Cathedral Island, where the towers of the Gothic cathedral stand proudly. At the Century Hall, we hear about the world's largest dome made of reinforced concrete and find ourselves in a Japanese garden reminiscent of the 1913 World's Fair. 170 km (F, A)

Van Wroclaw naar Krakau

We make our way to Częstochowa. In the Pauline monastery on the Bright Mountain of Częstochowa, we see the Black Madonna, the patron saint of Poland. The image is said to have been created by none other than St. Luke the Evangelist. In the afternoon we reach the village of Tyniec. The monks are delighted to show us around their shiny new Benedictine abbey. They are proud of their regionally produced and sustainable products, which are popular with guests from near and far. We reach the royal city of Krakow in the early evening. 400 km (F)

Day 9

Veelzijdig Krakau

Krakow Castle was the seat of Polish kings for around six centuries. As we wander through the extensive corridors, we immerse ourselves in the history of the country. Impressed by the tombs of kings and national heroes in the Wawel Cathedral, we soon find ourselves standing on one of the largest medieval squares in Europe. It is divided by the city's oldest shopping center ─ the Cloth Hall. Our gaze wanders from the magnificent houses of a wealthy bourgeoisie to the uneven towers of St. Mary's Church, from which a trumpet sounds. We find out what it's all about on the spot before enjoying the famous St. Vitus Stoss altar inside the church. In the cafés, guests drink strong Polish kava and watch the flower ladies at work. In the afternoon, we explore a special part of the city - Kazimierz. Jewish religion, culture and customs were alive here until the middle of the 20th century. We walk from the synagogue to the ancient cemetery. We look forward to the last evening, which is a very special one. The melancholy sounds of klezmer music accompany our dinner in one of Kazimierz's restaurants. (F, A)

Krakau tussen traditie en moderniteit
