Na een ontspannen ontbijt gaan we op pad voor een kennismakingstour door Accra, een bruisende stad met een mix van moderne en koloniale structuren en een levendige sfeer met de dagelijkse activiteiten van de lokale bevolking. We hebben spannende activiteiten en bezoeken gepland voor de dag als volgt:
- We bezoeken het pas gerenoveerde Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park voor de eerste president van Ghana - Dr. Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah. Het 5,4 hectare grote park werd in 1992 gebouwd om de nalatenschap van Dr. Kwame Nkrumah te eren, promoten en bewaren. In het museum worden voorwerpen uit verschillende fasen van het leven van Nkrumah tentoongesteld. Het heringerichte gebouw heeft een ontvangstcentrum, een moderne bibliotheek, een café, een cadeauwinkel, een ziekenboeg en een digitaal gestuurde conferentiefaciliteit. Het heeft ook een audiovisueel gesynchroniseerde fontein die het park 's nachts verlicht, een mini-amphitheater voor lezingen en optredens en een picknickplaats.
- Naast het gedenkpark ligt het Accra Arts & Crafts Centre. Wat dacht je ervan om je onderhandelingsvaardigheden uit te proberen op de grootste open markt van Accra terwijl je winkelt voor lokaal geproduceerd uniek traditioneel handwerk, zoals geweven Kente-doeken, beelden, houtsnijwerk, leren tassen, sieraden, kralen, Afrikaanse kleding en geweven manden? Bewonder de kunstgalerijen en een reeks andere traditionele voorwerpen die de cultuur en het erfgoed van Ghana uitbeelden, maar ook kunstnijverheid uit andere buurlanden. Het centrum biedt ook programma's, toneelstukken en culturele evenementen.
- Geniet van een rondleiding op Independence Square, waar Ghana de meeste nationale ceremonies houdt, en maak monumentale foto's op Black Star Square.
- Sluit de dag af met een bezoek aan het W.E.B. Du Bois Center, dat het leven eert van de bekende pan-Afrikanist die besloot in Ghana te gaan wonen en werken.

Geniet van een ontbijt in het hotel voordat je uitcheckt. Transfer naar Kotoka Domestic Airport voor een vlucht van 1 uur naar Tamale, de hoofdstad van de noordelijke regio van Ghana. Bij aankomst in Tamale, dat bekend staat om zijn levendige cultuur en iconische moskeeën, waaronder de indrukwekkende Centrale Moskee, krijg je inzicht in de rijke tradities en het architectonische erfgoed van de regio.
Je bezoekt het Savannah Centre for Contemporary Art (SCCA-Tamale), een kunstenaarsinitiatief opgericht door de internationaal geprezen Ghanese kunstenaar Ibrahim Mahama. Deze dynamische ruimte dient als tentoonstellingscentrum, onderzoekscentrum en culturele opslagplaats en stimuleert de dialoog over kunst en cultuur uit de 20e en 21e eeuw. Doe mee met de innovatieve programmering en verken de rol die het speelt in het vormgeven van de hedendaagse kunstscène van Ghana.

Na het ontbijt beginnen we onze reis naar Bolgatanga, onderweg stoppen we bij Tongo. Hier zul je het paleis van het opperhoofd bezoeken en een traditioneel welkom ontvangen. Onze volgende stop is Paga, waar je de unieke kans krijgt om op een krokodil te rijden. Deze krokodillen worden als heilig beschouwd en leven vredig in het dorp.
Vervolgens rijden we ongeveer 3 km ten westen van Paga naar Pikworo Village, een voormalige slavenverzamelplaats die door Ghanese handelaren werd gebruikt. Onder begeleiding van een lokale deskundige verken je de open velden, de wachttoren van de slavenhandelaren, het massagraf en de strafsteen waar slaven ooit werden vastgeketend onder de brandende zon.

Overnachting in Jeyads Lodge
Na het ontbijt checken we uit en rijden we naar Mole National Park, waar we kort stoppen om twee opmerkelijke bezienswaardigheden te bezoeken: de oude Larabanga Moskee, gebouwd in de Soedanese bouwstijl, en de raadselachtige Mystic Stone. De Larabanga Moskee, de oudste in Ghana en West-Afrika, wordt vaak het "Mekka van West-Afrika" genoemd.
Bij aankomst in Mole National Park transfereren we naar ons hotel, checken we in en genieten we van een heerlijk diner voordat we gaan ontspannen voor de nacht.

Overnachting in Zaina Lodge
Begin je dag met een onvergetelijke ochtendsafari in Mole National Park, een wildreservaat als geen ander. Tijdens deze unieke safari krijg je de kans om een van Ghana's topbestemmingen voor vogels te verkennen, met meer dan 200 vogelsoorten, levendige vlinders en indrukwekkende reptielen. Onder begeleiding van een ervaren en deskundige safarigids zul je getuige zijn van de wonderen van de Afrikaanse wilde dieren, waaronder de zachtaardige Afrikaanse bosolifant, Afrikaanse buffel, olijfbaviaan, hyena, roodflank duiker, roan antilope, wrattenzwijn, vervet apen, hartebeest en de sierlijke bushbok.
Keer terug naar de lodge voor het ontbijt na je spannende safariavontuur. Na de lunch gaan we naar Mognori Eco-Village, op slechts 15 km van Mole. Geniet van een wandeling door het dorp, waar je een traditionele culturele voorstelling kunt meemaken. Ga vervolgens op een rustige kanosafari over de Mole River, die een uniek perspectief biedt op de natuurlijke omgeving.
Sluit je bezoek af met een praktische leerervaring over het oogsten van sheanoten en het traditionele proces van het maken van biologische sheaboter, een vitale industrie die werk biedt aan de vrouwen in de gemeenschap. De rest van de dag kun je vrij besteden.

Na het ontbijt checken we uit en beginnen we onze reis naar het zuiden, door de schilderachtige savannedorpen van Noord-Ghana. Bij aankomst in Kumasi bezoeken we het Manhyia Palace, de officiële residentie van de Ashanti Koningen (Asantehene) tot 1974, nu een museum met kostbare voorwerpen uit het Ashanti Koninkrijk. Na deze activiteiten checken we in bij ons hotel en trekken we ons terug voor de nacht.

Overnachting in Lancaster Kumasi Hotel
Na het ontbijt bezoek je de ambachtelijke dorpen op het weelderige platteland rond Kumasi. Onze eerste stop is Adawomase, waar we zien hoe de beroemde Kente-doek met de hand wordt gemaakt op weefgetouwen in een eeuwenoude traditie die al generaties lang wordt doorgegeven. Verken de verschillende Kente-stijlen en maak van de gelegenheid gebruik om aankopen te doen. We kunnen ook een beleefdheidsbezoek brengen aan het opperhoofd van deze gemeenschap. Vervolgens bezoeken we het dorp Ntonso, waar ambachtslieden met de hand patronen op katoenen stoffen stempelen om Adinkra textiel te maken. Zwart-op-zwart en zwart-op-rood Adinkra textiel wordt traditioneel gedragen bij begrafenissen en andere plechtige gelegenheden. Leer hoe de zwarte verfstof wordt gemaakt van de bast van bomen en maak je eigen Adinkra sjerp om mee naar huis te nemen. Je kunt ook grotere stukken Adinkra doek kopen die in het dorp met de hand zijn gemaakt. Keer terug naar het hotel, geniet van het diner en trek je terug voor de nacht.

Overnachting in Lancaster Kumasi
Na het ontbijt checkten we uit en gingen we naar de Okomfo Anokye Sword site, een belangrijk symbool van Ashanti-eenheid dat de plek markeert waar de Golden Stool "uit de hemel neerdaalde" en al 300 jaar op zijn plaats staat. Volgens de legende zou het Ashanti-rijk instorten als het zwaard ooit zou worden verwijderd. Na de tour gaan we op weg naar Cape Coast. Voordat we aankomen, maken we een stop bij Assin Manso Slave River, de begraafplaats van twee voormalige slaven uit de VS en Jamaica wier stoffelijke resten in augustus 1998 werden herbegraven tijdens Ghana's eerste viering van Emancipatiedag. Je zult de "Slave River" zien, waar gevangen Afrikanen werden gewassen voordat ze werden opgesloten in de Slave Castles in afwachting van verscheping naar Amerika en het Caribisch gebied. Na de tour gaan we naar ons hotel om in te checken, te dineren en ons voor vandaag terug te trekken.

Overnachting in Coconut Groove Resort
Na het ontbijt vertrekken we naar Cape Coast, waar we het Cape Coast Castle bezoeken, dat op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO staat. Het kasteel is een indrukwekkend monument voor een schrijnende periode in de geschiedenis van de regio. Je maakt een emotionele reis door het kasteel, waar meer tot slaaf gemaakte Afrikanen verbleven dan in enig ander kasteel in de regio, waarbij je de kerkers en de beruchte "Door of No Return" kunt bekijken. Binnen is er een belangrijk historisch museum dat de geschiedenis van het kasteel en van Cape Coast zelf uitlegt. Je kunt er ook literatuur kopen over de Ghanese forten en kastelen en over de culturele geschiedenis en tradities van Ghana. Na de ochtendtour keren we terug naar het hotel.
Optionele activiteiten Regel samen met je reisgids een optioneel bezoek aan het Kakum National Park (op eigen kosten), een van Ghana's belangrijkste wildreservaten. Na het ontbijt check je uit en keer je terug naar Accra. Je bepaalt zelf je vertrektijd met de hulp van je reisbegeleider. Bij aankomst in Accra check je in in je hotel en kun je de hele dag ontspannen. Je kunt tegen betaling ook deelnemen aan een van de volgende OPTIONELE ACTIVITEITEN:
Winkelen: Je kunt een bezoek brengen aan Oxford Street, Osu, een bruisend winkelgebied dat bekend staat om zijn kleurrijke, unieke Afrikaanse kleding, handgemaakte sieraden en accessoires. Dit is een geweldige plek om mooie souvenirs op de kop te tikken.
Artiste Alliance Gallery: Een gerenommeerde galerie, opgericht door Ablade Glover, met drie zorgvuldig gerangschikte verdiepingen vol beeldhouwwerk, fotografie, houtwerk, sieraden en schilderijen van bekende en opkomende Ghanese kunstenaars. Er zijn ook verzamelobjecten zoals vintage Akan en Ewe stripgeweven Kente stoffen, op Picasso geïnspireerde Afrikaanse maskers, Asafo vlaggen met geappliqueerde en geborduurde emblemen en fijn gesneden meubilair.
Drum- en dansles: Deelnemers krijgen de kans om traditionele dansen van verschillende Ghanese stammen te leren onder begeleiding van bekwame lokale instructeurs. Deze meeslepende activiteit biedt niet alleen een uniek inzicht in de levendige tradities van Ghana, maar is ook een leuke en interactieve manier om in contact te komen met de lokale cultuur.
Kookles: Ontdek ter plekke de kunst van het bereiden van inheemse Ghanese gerechten. Je krijgt praktijkervaring terwijl we je begeleiden bij de traditionele bereiding van maaltijden zoals Jollof rijst, gekookte yam met palava saus, en fufu of Omo Tuo (rijstballetjes) met pindakaas soep (arachide soep). These terms apply to independent tours. Group tours have separate deposit and cancellation terms,
which are tour-specific. All payments, deposits, and cancellation amounts listed are per person. To
confirm a reservation the following deposit and final payment terms must be strictly adhered to
and are required at the time of reservation.
Tour Deposit & Final Payment
Deposit Due Per Person is $500 or 25% of tour cost, whichever is greater. We reserve the right to
request additional deposits as required by hotels and suppliers for peak periods such (but not
limited to) Christmas, New Year, Easter, and other holidays. Final Payments are due 45 days
before Tour begins. For reservations received within 45 days of commencement of services, the
entire amount is to be submitted at the time of confirmation. Reservations received within 45 days
of the start of the tour may be subject to a non-refundable rush-booking fee of no less than $125
per person to cover additional expenses incurred to expedite booking.
Cancellation Terms
Continent Tours’ cancellation policy is applied as follows:
Cancellations made 45 days or more prior to the start of the tour will be charged a
cancellation fee of 15% of tour cost with a minimum payment of $ 400 per traveler.
Cancellations made 44 to 30 days prior to the start of the tour will be charged a cancellation
fee of 20% of the tour cost with a minimum payment of $475 per traveler.
Cancellations made 29 to 17 days prior to the tour start date will be charged a cancellation
fee of 25% of the tour cost with a minimum payment of $ 700 per traveler.
Cancellations made 16 days or less prior to the tour start date will be charged a cancellation
fee of 100% of tour cost, No Refund.
Trip Cancellation Insurance Is Recommended
Domestic flight tickets are non-refundable when alternate (land) arrangements are made.
No-shows, late arrivals, voluntary changes, or cancellations by travelers of tour days or services
during a tour are non-refundable. Cancellation insurance is recommended.
Prior to the start of the tour, Continent Tours reserves the right to cancel a tour and will provide a
full refund of all payments. Continent Tours has never canceled a tour but would do so at its sole
discretion should travelers’ safety be of concern. Continent Tours is not responsible for expenses
incurred by travelers in preparing for a trip that is eventually canceled.
Once travelers are at the destination in Africa, Continent Tours will provide comparable alternate
tour arrangements, if the cancellation of a particular tour is deemed necessary. Should travelers
elect not to accept these alternate arrangements, this will constitute voluntary refusal of services,
and no refunds will be given. Pro-rata refunds will be made if alternate arrangements are not
comparable to the original tour services. Please note: Domestic flights may be replaced by ground
transportation if the domestic flight schedule renders flights impossible within the constraints of a
tour and/or the tour dates; in this case, the missed flights are non-refundable as the ticket price will
be used to make alternate land arrangements.
Insurance
Travel insurance while not mandatory is highly recommended and is not included in the tour price.
Tour Prices
Continent Tours prices are stated in U.S. Dollars (USD) and are subject to change until a tour
deposit is received.
Prices do not include international travel to/from Africa, passport fees, entry visa fees, excess
baggage charges, airport taxes, immunizations or other medical fees, non-specified meals,
alcoholic or other beverages, insurance, tips for tour staff, laundry, and other personal expenses.
Responsibilities
It is Continent Tours’ responsibility to provide the services listed with each tour itinerary.
Continent Tours includes this information with every price quote.
All lodging is double occupancy, bed & breakfast; including private baths. Comparable hotel
substitutes will be provided if planned accommodations are not available. For single occupancy, a
single supplement will be applied. Day rooms are not included unless specified. Hotel check-in
and check-out times are 2:00 Pm (1400 hours) and 12 noon (1200 hours).
Continent Tours reserves the right to make itinerary modifications or to change hotels or other tour
components, if these are deemed necessary or advisable for the continuation of the tour, for safety
and security reasons, or to prevent delays that would be detrimental to the tour or its members.
Continent Tours is not responsible for delays or consequences of any delays due to circumstances
beyond Continent Tours’ control. Continent Tours will make every effort to provide alternate and
comparable services if changes are made.
Scheduled domestic flights are sometimes postponed or canceled; Continent Tours is not
responsible for these inconveniences and will, where possible, use the ticket price of missed
domestic flights to make land arrangements. If clients opt to refuse land arrangements Continent
Tours will reimburse the cost of the air tickets when these amounts are refunded to Continent Tours
by the air carrier.
All luggage should have sturdy identification tags and should always be locked. Continent Tours
personnel will assist travelers with lost luggage formalities at the airport. Continent Tours will also
make every effort to forward lost luggage to its owner during the tour; any costs incurred in
forwarding luggage are the responsibility of the traveler. Please note: baggage limits on domestic
flights vary but are usually limited to one item of 10 kilograms (22 pounds) and one carry-on bag.
Additional services required as a result of international flight schedule changes, illness, or
emergencies are the responsibility of the traveler. Continent Tours personnel will do endeavor to
assist travelers who may need to make new flight arrangements. This is done as a courtesy and
implies no responsibility on the part of Continent Tours to find or make new arrangements. The
costs or penalties for any such arrangements are the sole responsibility of the traveler.
Continent Tours’ guide has the ultimate recourse of removing a traveler from a tour at any time, if
that person’s continued presence is deemed harmful to him/herself or others, or if it adversely
affects the quality of the tour and/or the enjoyment of the group. A pro-rata refund will be made
for missed activities, contingent upon refunds provided by suppliers.
Travelers must procure their own passport, entry visa(s), and health documents.
Travelers agree to comply with local laws and regulations and to respect cultural practices
observed during the tour. Travelers understand that living conditions and practices in West Africa
and Central Africa may not be the same as in their home countries.
Travelers are expected to be on time for all tour activities; there are no refunds for missed activities.
If travelers miss any flights or other scheduled departures, the responsibility and the cost of
rejoining the tour will be theirs.
Travelers with special needs or disabilities must inform Continent Tours at the time of booking;
failure to disclose in advance any physical or other restrictions, or the need for special
accommodations, will make it impossible to meet those needs. When informed, Continent Tours
will make every effort to accommodate travelers and will inform travelers of local conditions they
will likely encounter.
For their own safety as well as for the smooth operation of their tour, travelers are expected to
follow their Tour Leader/Guide’s requests and instructions; any problems encountered during the
tour should be brought to the guide’s attention immediately, so that the guide may remedy the
situation. If the guide is unable to do so, or you are not satisfied with the remedy, please contact
the Continent Tours office and report the problem.
Tips and gratuities, while not mandatory, are accepted as recognition of quality service by guides,
drivers, restaurant personnel, and others. These tips and gratuities are not covered by tour fees and
are entirely at your discretion. Tips for luggage porters are the responsibility of Continent Tours’
guide.
Security and Safety
Travelers’ safety and security are Continent Tours’ first priority. We do not conduct tours to
dangerous areas and we always work with local personnel, who are fully cognizant of local security
conditions. In order to avoid driver fatigue and accidents, we avoid driving at night.
Travelers are expected to exercise caution with their person and belongings in public areas.
Travelers are also expected to keep their valuables at hand at all times, and to keep their luggage
locked. Continent Tours is not responsible for articles forgotten in hotel rooms, restaurants, etc.
General Disclaimer
The participant recognizes that Continent Tours is not responsible for circumstances beyond its
control, including, without limitations, acts of God, explosion, tempest, fire, accident, and war,
threats of war, sabotage, sickness, insurrection, government intervention, weather conditions,
quarantine, civil disturbances, or armed conflict. Continent Tours will use its best efforts to
reschedule or alter tours affected by any of the foregoing but is not under any obligation to refund
any portion of the cost of the tour or to reimburse the participant in any way, even if forced to
cancel the trip as a result, Continent Tours will where possible, make refunds, after deducting a
reasonable amount to cover actual and potential costs. In the event that Continent Tours
investigates the prevailing situation, and decides, as its sole discretion, that the tour can go forward,
but the participant elects to cancel, then no refund will be payable and the provisions regarding
payment and cancellation will apply. These provisions also apply to delays and cancellations
involving carriage by land, sea and air, including those involving travel to and from the destination.
The participant understands that such delays are beyond Continent Tours control and that the
participant must look to the terms and conditions by the carrier and international conventions for
any remedy or relief.

Continent Tours is not responsible for expenses incurred by travelers in preparing for a trip which is eventually canceled.
• Once travelers are at the destination in Africa, Continent Tours will provide comparable alternate tour arrangements, if the cancellation of a particular tour is deemed necessary. Should travelers elect not to accept these alternate arrangements, this will constitute voluntary refusal of services, and no refunds will be given. Pro-rata refunds will be made if alternate arrangements are not comparable to the original tour services. Please note: Domestic Flights may be replaced by ground transportation, if the domestic flight schedule renders flights impossible within the constraints of a tour and/or the tour dates; in this case, the missed flights are non-refundable as the ticket price will be used to make alternate land arrangements.

Travel Insurance while not mandatory is highly recommended and is not included in the tour price
TOUR PRICES:
Continent Tours prices are stated in U.S Dollars (USD) and are subject to change until a tour deposit is received.
Prices do not include international travel to/from Africa, passport fees, entry visa fees, excess baggage charges, immunizations or other medical fees, non –specified meals, alcoholic or other beverages, insurance, tips for tour staff, laundry and other personal expenses.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
It is Continent Tours’ responsibility to provide the services with each tour itinerary. Continent Tours includes this information with every price quote.
All lodging is double occupancy, bed & breakfast; including private baths. Comparable hotel substitutes will be provided if planned accommodations are not available. For single occupancy, a single supplement will be applied. Day rooms are not included unless specified or requested for. Hotel check-in and check-out are 2:00pm (1400 hours) and 12noon (1200 hours) respectively.
Continent Tours reserves the right to make itinerary modifications or to change hotels or other tour components, if these are deemed necessary or advisable for the continuation of the tour, for safety and security reasons, or to prevent delays that would be detrimental to the tour or its members. Continent Tours is not responsible for delays or consequences of any delays due to circumstances beyond Continent Tours’ control.
Continent Tours will make every effort to provide alternate and comparable services if changes are made.
All luggage should have sturdy identification tags and should always be locked. Continent Tours personnel will assist travelers with lost luggage formalities at the airport. Continent Tours will also make every effort to forward lost luggage to its owner during the tour; any costs incurred in forwarding luggage are responsibility of the traveler. Please note: baggage limits on domestic flights vary but are usually limited to one item of 10kg (22 pounds) and one carry-on bag.
Additional services required as a result of international flight schedule changes, illness or emergencies re the responsibility of the traveler. Continent Tours personnel will do endeavor to assist travelers who may need to make new flight arrangements. This is done as a courtesy and implies no responsibility on the part of Continent Tours to find or make new arrangements. The cost or penalties for any such arrangements are the sole responsibility of the traveler.
Continent Tours guide has the ultimate recourse of removing a traveler from a tour at any time, if that person’s continued presence is deemed harmful to him/herself or others, or if it adversely affects the quality of the tour and/or the enjoyment of the group. A pro-rata refund will be made for missed activities, contingent upon refunds provided by suppliers.
Travelers must procure their own passport, entry visa(s) and health documents.
Travelers agree to comply with local laws and regulations and to respect cultural practices observed during the tour. Travelers understand that living conditions and practices in West Africa and Central Africa may not be the same as in their home countries.
Travelers are expected to be on time for all tour activities; there are no refunds for missed activities. If travelers miss any flights or other schedule departures, the responsibility and the cost of rejoining the tour will be theirs.
Travelers with special needs or disabilities must inform Continent Tours at the time of booking; failure to disclose in advance any physical or other restrictions, or the need for special accommodations, will make it impossible to meet those needs. When informed, Continent Tours will make every effort to accommodate travelers and will inform travelers of local conditions they will likely encounter.
For their own safety as well as for the smooth operation of their tour, travelers are expected to follow their Tour Leader/Guide’s requests and instructions; any problems encountered during the tour should be brought to the guide’s attention immediately, so that the guide may remedy the situation. If the guide is unable to do so, or you are not satisfied with the remedy, contact Continent Tours office and report the problem.
Tips and gratuities, while not mandatory are accepted as recognition of quality service by guides, drivers, restaurants personnel and others. These tips and gratuities are not covered by tour fees and are entirely at your discretion. Tips for luggage porters are the responsibility of Continent Tours’ guide.
SECURITY AND SAFETY
Travelers’ safety and security is Continent Tours’ first priority. We don’t conduct tours to dangerous areas and we always work with local personnel, who are fully cognizant of local security conditions. In order to avoid driver fatigue and accidents, we avoid driving at night.
Travelers are expected to exercise caution with their person and belongings in public areas. Travelers are expected to keep their valuables at hand at all times and to keep their luggage locked. Continent Tours is not responsible for articles forgotten in hotel rooms, restaurants, etc.
GENERAL DISCLAIMER:
The participant recognizes that Continent Tours is not responsible for circumstances beyond its control, including, without limitations, acts of God, explosion, tempest, fire, accident, war, threats, sabotage, sickness, insurrection, government intervention, weather conditions, quarantine, civil disturbances, or armed conflict. Continent Tours will use its best efforts to reschedule or alter tours affected by any of the foregoing, but is not under any obligation to refund any portion of the cost of the tour or to reimburse the participant in any way, even if forced to cancel the trip as a result. Continent Tours will, where possible, make refunds after deducting a reasonable amount to cover actual and potential costs. In the event that Continent Tours investigates the prevailing situation, and decided as its sole discretion that the tour can go forward, but the participant elects to cancel, then no refund will be payable and the provisions regarding payment and cancellation will apply. These provisions also apply to delays and cancellations involving carriage by land, sea and air, including those involving travel to and from the destination. The participant understands that such delays are beyond Continent Tours’ control and that the participant must look to the terms and conditions by the carrier and international conventions for any remedy or relief.
