Startpunt
Marrakesh, Marrakech - Tensift - Al Haouz, Morocco
After breakfast, depart Marrakech in a private vehicle for a scenic journey across the ever-changing landscapes of central Morocco. Pass through dramatic valleys, rugged mountain ranges, and traditional Berber villages before reaching the oasis town of Tinghir.
Here, enjoy a short orientation walk through the town and its lush palm groves, where date palms, gardens, and traditional irrigation systems create a peaceful contrast to the surrounding desert.
Continue your journey to the breathtaking Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s most impressive natural wonders. With towering cliffs reaching up to 300 meters, the gorge is a paradise for nature lovers and hikers. Spend the evening nestled between the sheer rock walls, palm trees, and the gentle flow of the Todra River.
This serene spot is perfect for hiking, relaxing along the riverside, or sampling local Berber dishes prepared with traditional flavors. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel or guesthouse at the gorge.
After breakfast, continue your journey south towards the edge of the Sahara Desert. The drive takes you through ever-changing desert landscapes and small Berber villages before arriving in Merzouga, the gateway to the vast dunes of Erg Chebbi.
Upon arrival, settle into your desert hotel and be welcomed with a refreshing glass of mint tea. Take time to relax before preparing for your Sahara adventure. In the late afternoon, meet your local guides and learn how to properly tie a traditional Berber turban—both a practical way to protect yourself from the desert sun and a fun cultural touch for photos.
Climb onto the back of your camel for a sunset trek into the dunes. Ride across the rolling sands as the sun begins to dip below the horizon, transforming the desert into a breathtaking display of colors—gold, orange, and deep red. This magical moment offers perfect photo opportunities and an unforgettable connection with the desert’s timeless beauty.
Return to your hotel on the edge of the dunes, where a special evening awaits. Gather around a campfire under a canopy of stars, indulge in a delicious traditional Moroccan dinner, and enjoy local stories and rhythms of Berber drumming
Wake up early to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the Sahara dunes, a magical sight that bathes the sand in glowing shades of gold and pink. After breakfast, bid farewell to the desert and begin your journey westwards along the legendary Route of 1000 Kasbahs. This scenic road weaves through valleys dotted with palm groves, ancient fortresses, and traditional mud-brick villages, offering glimpses of Morocco’s rich history and rural life.
In the afternoon, arrive at the iconic Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most impressive and best-preserved ksars in Morocco. Spend two to three hours exploring this maze of earthen architecture, fortified walls, and watchtowers that have stood for centuries. Although only a few families still live within the kasbah, its timeless charm remains intact.
Aït Ben Haddou is not only a cultural treasure but also a famous filming location. Its dramatic backdrop has been featured in legendary movies and series such as Gladiator, Babel, and Game of Thrones. Walk through its narrow alleys, climb to the top for panoramic views over the desert landscape, and immerse yourself in the history of this once-thriving caravan stop along the trans-Saharan trade route.
After breakfast, begin your journey into the High Atlas Mountains, traveling across the winding roads of the Tizi n’Tichka Pass at 2,260m. Along the way, admire spectacular mountain scenery, dotted with Berber villages and terraced fields clinging to the hillsides. Continue onwards into the heart of Toubkal National Park, Morocco’s premier trekking region.
Arrive in Imlil, a bustling mountain village that serves as the gateway to Mount Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak. Here, leave your main luggage behind to be transported by mule while you embark on a one-hour hike uphill to Aroumd, a picturesque village nestled at the base of the mountains. Though the hike is steady and uphill, it is accessible to travelers with average fitness, and the views along the way make the effort more than worthwhile.
By early evening, settle into a cozy mountain gîte (guesthouse) surrounded by dramatic peaks and sweeping views. Take time to relax in the crisp mountain air and enjoy the simplicity of village life. Dinner will be a homemade traditional Moroccan meal, prepared with fresh local ingredients and served in the warm, welcoming salon of the gîte.
This overnight stay offers a rare chance to experience the serenity of the High Atlas and connect with the local way of life in an authentic mountain setting.
After breakfast at the mountain gîte, lace up your boots for a gentle hike back down to Imlil. The one-hour walk takes you through terraced fields, small stone hamlets, and winding mule paths with sweeping views of the High Atlas peaks. Once back in Imlil, rejoin your private vehicle for the scenic drive to Marrakech (approx. 1h45m, 70 km).
Arrive in the vibrant “Red City” of Marrakech, a bustling blend of ancient tradition and modern energy. The rest of the day is free to explore at your own pace. Wander through the labyrinthine souks filled with colorful textiles, handcrafted goods, and aromatic spices, or pause at a shaded rooftop café with a cup of mint tea while watching the rhythm of city life unfold below.
Optional activities include visiting the Musée de Marrakech, stepping into the ruins of the El Badi Palace, or strolling through the serene pathways of the Majorelle Gardens, once owned by Yves Saint Laurent.
As evening falls, join the locals in the legendary Djemaa el Fna square, where food stalls light up the night with sizzling grills, music, and storytelling. Savor an optional group dinner here for a truly authentic Marrakech experience.
Enjoy your final breakfast at the hotel. Depending on your flight schedule, take some free time to relax, do some last-minute shopping in Marrakech’s vibrant souks, or simply enjoy the atmosphere of the Red City one last time.
