The Anuradhapura Kingdom, named for its capital city, was the first established kingdom in ancient Sri Lanka. Founded by King Pandukabhaya in 377 BC, the kingdom's authority extended throughout the country. However, several independent areas emerged from time to time, which grew more numerous towards the end of the kingdom. Nonetheless, the king of Anuradhapura was seen as the supreme ruler of the country throughout the Anuradhapura period. Buddhism played a strong role in the Anuradhapura period, influencing its culture, laws, and methods of governance. Society and culture were revolutionized when the faith was introduced during the reign of King Devanampiya Tissa; this cultural change was further strengthened by the arrival of the Tooth Relic of the Buddha in Sri Lanka and the patronage extended by her rulers

Minneriya National Park: This national park is located in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka. The clean forest encompasses the ponds and contains many animals, but activity watching is usually inadequate – except for the amazing periodic members of monsters (Elephant). The ‘gathering’ occurs in Minneriya during September and October, when more than 300 monsters come together on the bed of Minneriya

Day 4

Jour 4 : De Sigiriya à Kandy

Earlier morning climb Sigiriya Rock before sun become rough which is suitable for pictures and climbing to the top and back to the hotel for breakfast, thereafter drive to Kandy on the way Visit Cave Temple Dambulla, Nalanda Gedige, Mathale Spice garden (only for visit) & Hindu temple later Kandy City tour

Cave Temple Dambulla: cave temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla is a World Heritage Site (1991) in Sri Lanka, situated in the central part of the country. This site is situated 148 km east of Colombo and 72 km north of Kandy. It is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock towers 160 m over the surrounding plains. There are more than 80 documented caves in the surrounding area.

Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple.

Galle Fort in the Bay of Galle on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards. It is a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage monument, which even after more than 423 years maintains a polished appearance, due to extensive reconstruction work done by Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka

www.eta.gov.lk the visa will initially be limited to 30 days from the date of arrival and which may extend to six months by contacting the Department of Immigration and Emigration. This process will not be applicable for Singapore and Maldives passport holders as they are granted visa on arrival.

 

Climate and seasons:

In the Low Lands, the Climate is in general tropical with an average temperature of about 27°C in Colombo. In the Higher elevations however, it can be quite cool with temperatures going down to 16°C. Bright and Sunny days are the norm and are common even during the height of the Monsoon – climatically Sri Lanka has no off -season. The south- west monsoon brings rain mainly from May to July to the western, southern and central regions of the island. While the north -east monsoon rains occur in the northern and eastern regions in December and January.
