Tour program

Day 1

Jour 1 : C'est enfin parti !

Today your plane leaves for Namibia, the land of infinite space.
Welcome to Namibia! Full of anticipation, your tour guide awaits you at the airport. And then it's off into the middle of the red dunes of the Kalahari. It is actually a semi-desert, at least here, where acacias and tall grass dominate the landscape. Characteristic of the Kalahari are the red longitudinal dunes, which run parallel to the prevailing wind direction and, unlike the dunes of the Namib, no longer migrate. After the flight, you can really settle in. Lie by the pool or get in the mood for your trip with an optional dune drive.

Meals
Dinner is included and is served al fresco, overlooking the floodlit waterhole frequented by various antelope.

Accommodation
Zebra Kalahari Lodge
Zebra Kalahari Lodge is located in the Intu Afrika Kalahari Game Reserve. Here, the wonderland of the Kalahari awaits you, just as you imagined it: red dunes overgrown with yellow grass, wide dune valleys in which camel thorn trees proudly defy the conditions. In the middle of it all, springbok, oryx antelope, wildebeest, zebra and ostrich, to name but a few, roam the bush savannah, sometimes at a leisurely pace, sometimes faster. The spacious and comfortably furnished rooms offer a dignified ambience. From most of the verandas and the cozy lounge you can watch the busy comings and goings at the waterhole. The swimming pool provides a welcome break from the desert experience.

Notes
The driving distance is approx. 240 km.
Can't get enough? Our additional recommendation:
Take an approximately two-hour round trip at sunset, a special African experience: Kalahari dunes, broad valleys, red earth, yellow grass, green camel thorn trees and here and there springboks, oryx antelopes and ostriches moving gracefully in this timelessly beautiful dune world. The minimum number of participants is 2, the price per person is 660 NA-$ (valid until 31.10.2025).
Early in the morning, you will immerse yourself in the ancient culture of the nomadic people under the expert guidance of the San. You will seek out life-giving water where there is none, dig for edible plants, get a crash course in hunting with bow and arrow and perhaps even try your hand at the complex San language with its colorful clicking sounds. Afterwards, you will swing through the sea of dunes of the Kalahari. The hills are actually miles-long strips of dunes that are fixed by the plant growth and therefore do not move. There are impressive examples of ornithological architecture along the route. The communal nests of the sable weavers are the size of small huts, with hidden communal entrances and decoys to confuse unwanted intruders. The chattering of the birds can sometimes be deafening. At sunset, you take a walk with your tour guide and enjoy a wonderful sundowner, which is obligatory in southern Africa - the festive end to the day. Cool drinks are of course provided.

Meals
Breakfast and dinner are included.

Accommodation
Kalahari Game Lodge
The Kalahari Game Lodge is situated in the south-east of Namibia, not far from the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park in the most beautiful savannah landscape directly on the dry Auob River. Red sand dunes and tree savannah provide a habitat for more than 50 mammal and over 200 bird species. The lodge is situated on 40,000 hectares of land and is built from an interesting mix of natural wood and iconic corrugated iron. Many bright accents lend a friendly, modern flair. The rooms are comfortably furnished and the terrace overlooks the riverbed of the Auob River.

Notes
The route covers approx. 320 km.
A short hop and you're in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park in South Africa. Kgalagadi is a so-called Peace Park in partnership with Botswana. This gives antelope herds the freedom to roam unhindered on their natural migration routes in the 38,000 square kilometer transfrontier area. The park is best known for its prides of lion, which truly reign supreme here. The Kalahari lion is even a very special subspecies of this cat genus. It is one of the larger lion species. The very dark, sometimes even black mane of the pride chiefs is striking. You will be out and about in the national park all day.

Meals
Breakfast is included in the price.

Accommodation
Twee Rivieren National Park Camp
Twee Rivieren National Park Camp is located in the south of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park and is an ideal starting point for extensive game viewing along the Auob and Nossob dry rivers. The camp has a small store, a restaurant and a pool. The functionally furnished chalets are generously spread across the grounds and have their own bathroom, a small kitchenette and terrace.

Notes
The driving distance is approx. 150 km.
Because it was so beautiful, we request another audience with the king of the animals today. We spend the whole day in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park in search of lion and co. But you don't want to miss the smaller inhabitants of the Kalahari either. Like the cheeky meerkats that stand guard in front of their burrows, crouching upright on their hind legs and casting their keen eyes from side to side.

Catering
Breakfast is included.

Accommodation
FOLLOW-UP ACCOMMODATION [Follow-up overnight stay]
You spend the night in the same accommodation as the day before.
And suddenly the green lifeline along the Orange lies at your feet. Upington is home to the region's agricultural stronghold, especially wine growing. Irrigation is still partly carried out using traditional water wheels. Incidentally, the river does not bear this name because of its reddish color, but refers to the Dutch noble House of Orange. At the "Kalahari Cheesemaking Company" we invite you to a multi-course cheese tasting, where South African wine is also served.

Meals
Breakfast and dinner are included. A light lunch in the form of a cheese tasting and wine tasting awaits you at midday. Last but not least: Look forward to a typical South African barbecue evening with the best ingredients from the region.

Accommodation
Khamkirri
Khamkirri is a family-run camp situated upstream of the Augrabies Waterfall on the banks of the Orange River. Each wooden chalet is built on stilts and offers breathtaking views of the river from the private deck.

Notes
The driving distance is approx. 460 km.
Get ready for the Augrabies Falls National Park. The South African nature reserve stretches over 220 square kilometers along the Orange River and offers dramatic scenery. Augrabies means "the roaring place" and you'll hear it. And see it. Walk directly to the waterfall. Here, the Oranje plunges 60 meters into the depths and then winds its way between steep rock faces all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. Legend has it that an immense treasure trove of diamonds lies at the foot of the impressive Augrabies waterfall. There are countless fantastic stories about this arid landscape. According to African folklore, devastating consequences are to be expected if the "tree of life", the inconspicuous shepherd's tree, is damaged or felled. It also takes a lot of imagination to recognize the relationship between the cute rock hyrax and an elephant. You'll be surprised what other bizarre things you discover during the subsequent one-hour hike on the two-kilometre-long Gorges Trail!

Catering
Breakfast and dinner are included in the price.

Accommodation
FOLLOW-UP ACCOMMODATION [subsequent overnight stay]
You spend the night in the same accommodation as the day before.

Notes
The route covers approx. 140 km.
Today you are literally standing in front of the abyss, fortunately a truly magnificent one. The Fish River Canyon is the second largest canyon in the world. Created by a fracture in the geological formation and then eroded over millions of years, it is one of Africa's natural wonders. Around 160 kilometers long and with a depth of up to 549 meters, it winds its way through the south of the country. Be sure to walk along the eastern edge of the canyon and let your gaze wander over the eternal expanse. From the main viewpoint, look down on Hell's Bend, the most impressive example of the winding canyon run. It's hard to leave this impressive place again.

Meals
Meals included are breakfast and dinner.

Accommodation
Canyon Lodge
Canyon Lodge is located just a few kilometers from the entrance to the Fish River National Park. The farmhouse, built in 1910, has been converted into a restaurant. The natural stone bungalows, charmingly integrated into the landscape, are thatched. They nestle between the mighty granite rocks and convey the feeling of living in the middle of nature. The lodge has a curved swimming pool with a fantastic view of the surrounding granite rocks.

Notes
The driving distance is approx. 430 km.
During an expedition to the southernmost tip of the continent, the Portuguese navigator Bartolomeu Diaz landed in the shallow bay of Lüderitz. To document his success, he erected a so-called Padrão, a stone cross. In the centuries that followed, whalers and guano collectors of various origins headed for the natural harbor. Finally, German merchants established a trading post here in the hope of finding mineral resources. This was the birth of the colony of German South West Africa. During a bay cruise, you follow in the footsteps of the early visitors and conquerors. The trip along the coast will of course also take you to the Diaz Cross.

Meals
Breakfast is included. For dinner, we recommend Lüderitz oysters and seasonal langoustines (not included in the price).

Accommodation
Lüderitz Nest Hotel
The Lüderitz Nest Hotel is located on the eastern South Atlantic in a sheltered bay, also known as Lüderitz Bay, and directly on Lüderitz beach. All rooms offer a beautiful view of the rough Atlantic Ocean. There is a small swimming pool surrounded by lawn in the inner courtyard. The in-house restaurant is known for its seafood dishes.

Notes
The driving distance is approx. 410 km.
You sail along the bays in a catamaran for a leisurely two hours to Halifax. The island is an important breeding ground for its islanders, the cute spectacled penguins. The desolate Petrel Bay holds the dark history of whaling. The giants of the sea were killed here for their tran, which was used as lamp oil, among other things. When the sky is thick with fog and the wind blows, you can hear the woeful voices of poached whales. In Kolmanskop, you follow the call of completely different spirits. Once upon a time, diamonds lay in the sand here and were picked up by moonlight. Word of the first find spread quickly and a splendid small town in playful Art Nouveau style sprang up in no time. But its heyday was short-lived. Kolmanskop was constantly battling against the drifting sand, drinking water was scarce and expensive, and plants did not want to thrive here. As soon as the diamond finds dried up, the buildings were abandoned to the desert. Today, the sand is up to the ceiling beams in some houses, but in the restored walls you may still be able to hear shadows dancing to the quiet music from the gramophone. In the afternoon, you will explore Lüderitz on foot with your tour guide. During the one-hour city walk, you will get to know the two national monuments, the Rock Church and Goerke House, as well as the old city quarter and the waterfront of Lüderitz.

Catering
Breakfast is included.

The origin of the desert horses of Garub is the subject of much debate. The fact that these noble steeds survived in this unforgiving landscape is astonishing. The Tiras Plain and NamibRand are among the most beautiful desert landscapes in southern Africa and have inspired many an artist. In the Nama language, Namib means "empty place" or "place where there is nothing". It is said to be the oldest desert in the world. As a free nation, they strove for their own identity and so the state name Namibia was derived from the Namib Desert, reflecting the love and pride of the people for their arid land. After the drive along the dusty road, the pool offers a welcome refreshment. Alternatively, you can stretch your legs on a walk on your own. In the evening, listen out for the noisy geckos that start clicking at sunset to attract a female. Welcome to the gates of the Namib-Naukluft National Park!

Meals
Breakfast and dinner are included.

Accommodation
Elegant Desert Lodge
Elegant Desert Lodge is situated 32 kilometers south of Sesriem and combines the old with the modern. The converted main house used to serve as a farm building. All rooms are made of natural stone and stylishly furnished. From the veranda, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the surrounding plains and the purple mountains in the background. Relax by the swimming pool after an eventful day and watch the wild animals at the waterhole in the evening.

Notes
The driving distance is approx. 460 km.
Set off before sunrise to the gigantic dunes at Sossusvlei, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy the unique atmosphere in the dune valley in the early morning. The last five kilometers to the vlei are covered in a four-wheel drive shuttle, as normal vehicles cannot cope with the masses of sand. The immovable star dunes at Sossusvlei are among the highest dunes on earth. You walk through the dune world and can try to climb one of the sand mountains, which are up to 350 meters high. As soon as you walk through the Dead Vlei with its dead acacia trees that are over 500 years old, you will know that it is aptly named. At the end of the day, marvel at the spectacular starry sky and listen to the sounds of the desert at night.

Meals
The included meals are a breakfast package, which you can enjoy in the middle of Sossusvlei, and dinner.

Take a 2-hour sunset drive on the grounds of the Elegant Desert Lodge. Here you can physically experience silence and timelessness. The price per person is 480 NA-$ (valid until 30.11.2025).
You leave the desert and drive to Rehoboth. The village is located in the central Namibian highlands and is home to the Baster people. The small ethnic group of descendants of the Khoikhoi and white settlers proudly bear their name. You follow a winding road through the barren landscape of the Auas Mountains to Windhoek. You reach the Namibian capital and your accommodation in the afternoon.

Meals
Breakfast and dinner are included. You will enjoy your farewell dinner in the Stellenbosch Restaurant, very close to your accommodation. With its Mediterranean-style ambience, it is considered one of the best restaurants in Windhoek.

Where to stay
Windhoek Luxury Suites
The Windhoek Luxury Suites await you in the quiet residential area of Klein Windhoek. The beautiful rooms have their own terrace on the first floor and a balcony on the top floor with a view of the small, fine pool, which invites you to cool off. Be sure to visit the Bougain Villas district opposite, where the Stellenbosch Restaurant, an art store and a massage parlor are located in the airy green courtyard.

Notes
The driving distance is approx. 300 km.
On a short tour, you will get to know the city and its historic center around Christ Church and the Ink Palace with its unusually green garden for Namibia. You then drive to the township of Katutura, where the many small roadside "cuca stores" with creative names offer cold drinks and food as well as services such as car washes and Afro haircuts. At the Penduka women's initiative, you can watch how tablecloths and bedspreads are made. Find out what motivates the women here. You will then be taken to the airport and fly back home from Windhoek. See you next time in wonderful Namibia!

Meals
Breakfast is included.

Notes
The driving distance is approx. 50 km.
With a suitcase full of impressions you land and travel on to your place of residence.
