Programme du circuit
Tous à bord à Reykjavik !
En mer, traversée du détroit du Danemark
The Denmark Strait, a narrow passage between Iceland and Greenland, teems with rich marine life. Join your Expedition Team on the outer decks to watch for wildlife. Nearing Greenland, the team shares insights on ecology, geology, and wildlife, as well as briefings preparing guests for Zodiac operations and polar bear safety in the wilderness of Greenland.
Tasiilaq, Groenland oriental
Tasiilaq is East Greenland’s largest settlement, sitting on rugged Ammassalik Island. Isolated from European contact until its founding as a trading post in 1894, it preserves the unique culture of the Tunumiit people. Once home to Greenland’s last shamans, Tasiilaq is the origin of the tupilak, a feared magical creature – now a celebrated art form. Visitors can meet sled dogs (with owners’ permission), experience drum dancing, hike tundra meadows, and visit the famous Stunk Artist’s Workshop.
Ikateq et Kuummiut, Groenland oriental
During the morning, we approach Ikateq, also known as Bluie Two East – a haunting remnant of the American military presence on Greenland during the Second World War. Marvel at the remains of this vital airbase, untouched since it was abandoned in 1947.
In the afternoon we reposition to Kuummiit – a small village deep in the calm waters of Ammassalik Fjord. Here we will have a chance to connect with the friendly locals and experience East Greenlandic culture in one of country’s most beautiful and welcoming villages.
Sermilikfjord
Our next stop is the breathtaking Sermilikfjord – a vast ice-choked fjord which drains the colossal Helheim Glacier. Armadas of vast icebergs drift from the Greenland Ice Sheet out into the North Atlantic, creating one of the most spectacular natural sights on Earth. Join your Expedition Team on a Zodiac cruise and marvel at the gigantic icebergs, natural ice sculptures tens of thousands of years in the making!
Skjoldungen/Saqqisikuik
Today, we explore Skjoldungen, a stunning fjord on Greenland’s southeast coast, known to locals as Saqqisikuik. Once visited by Inuit and briefly settled in the 20th century, it is now remote and uninhabited. Surrounded by breathtaking peaks, highlights include Thryms Glacier and the valley of Dronning Marie Dal. Weather permitting, we may land to explore or cruise by the glacier.
Prins Christian Sund et Aappilattoq
In the morning, we sail through spectacular Prins Christian Sund, a 60 km iceberg-filled strait linking East and West Greenland. Surrounded by mountains, glaciers, and valleys, it’s one of the world’s most spectacular waterways. By afternoon, we reach Aappilattoq, a small, remote village beneath granite cliffs, known for its traditional lifestyle, scenic hiking, and famous local choir.
Qassiarsuk et Itilleq Kujalleq
Next, we cruise through Tunulliarfik Fjord to Qassiarsuk, a lush village known for sheep farming and its rich Norse history. Founded in 1924, the modern village sits on the site of Erik the Red’s 10th-century farm, Brattahlíð. Legend has it that his wife Thjodhild refused to join her pagan husband’s bed until he built her a church – the first in the Americas. In the afternoon, we hike from nearby Itilleq through lush green fields to Igaliku and the ruins of Garðar, the seat of Norse Greenlandic power.
Coming ashore in the morning at the sheltered bay of Itilleq, a farm trail beckons us to the village of Igaliku. During the morning, we will trek through the lush green hills to see the remains of the Norse Bishop's palace at Garðar - once a place of great power and influence in this remote corner of the Norse world.
During the afternoon, we will reposition to the other side of the fjord to the sheep-farming village of Qassiarsuk. While the modern village was founded in 1924, the location has a fascinating and much longer history; it was here that legendary Norse explorer Eric the Red settled after being banished from Iceland. He named the land he discovered 'Greenland' to encourage other settlers to follow him - a marketing ploy that has stood for over a thousand years!
Erik the Red settled in this green landscape and set up a small farmstead in typical Norse style, naming his new home 'Brattahlíð'. Erik himself kept fiercely to the Norse gods, but his wife Thjodhild was a Christian. Legend has it, she refused to join his bed until he built her a church, which he eventually did, constructing a tiny hut (Þjóðhildarkirkja) which was nevertheless the first church in the Americas (although he refused to have it within view of his house).
The Norse settlers in Greenland stayed for almost 500 years, but disappeared from all historical records in the early 1400s. Whether some plague or famine struck them, or whether deteriorating climate simply forced them to return to Scandinavia remains a topic of lively debate. Today the outlines of buildings (including Erik's house, Thjodhild's church and the Bishop's palace) can be seen, along with stunningly accurate reconstructions of Eric's farm, where modern Inuit farmers continue to raise sheep to this day. A statue of Erik now overlooks the area, commemorating the first European to reach the Americas, and whose son Leif would be the first European to reach Baffin Island and Newfoundland. Sites rich in fascinating history and culture old and new, the settlements of Brattahlíð and Garðar are today part of the Kujataa UNESCO World Heritage Site.
En mer, en route vers Nuuk
From South Greenland, we sail north along the rugged coast. Nearly all of Greenland’s settlements lie on the western coast, facing the Davis Strait. Warm Atlantic currents enrich these waters, attracting whales, seals, human hunters, and many seabirds, so keep an eye out during our day at sea!
Nuuk, capitale du Groenland
Home to 20,000 residents, Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, offers culture, history, and stunning natural beauty. Inhabited since 2200 B.C. by Paleo-Inuit and later by Norse settlers, Nuuk is now Greenland’s cultural and political center, featuring the Parliament, National Museum (home of the Qilakitsoq mummies), Katuaq cultural center, local art shops, and cozy cafés. Affectionately known as “Nuuk York” by locals, it stands as a singular blend of the ancient and the contemporary.
Kangaamiut et Evighedsfjorden
On the final full day of our voyage, we arrive in Kangaamiut, a village where traditional hunting, fishing, and weather shape daily life. Guests can hike for panoramic views, and enjoy a warm cultural welcome with local crafts, food, and performance. In the afternoon, we venture into Evighedsfjorden “The Eternity Fjord” by Zodiac, cruising past majestic glaciers and dramatic bird cliffs, a thrilling and unforgettable finale to our Arctic voyage.
Kangerlussuaq, Débarquement
As our journey concludes, we sail up the 160 km Kangerlussuaq Fjord and disembark by Zodiac. Though Kangerlussuaq is more known for its Cold War-era military roots and role as a transport hub than cultural heritage, its surrounding wilderness offers striking natural beauty. From there, we will depart from Greenland, boarding our chartered flight to Copenhagen, where your journey will end.

Consequently, the Vessel is not suitable for persons with disabilities or use wheelchair by shore-based standards. In this respect, the anticipated natural movements of a vessel at sea should be considered. If any doubt
exists about the ability of a passenger to accept such conditions, they are advised not to travel on the Vessel. Carrier reserves the right to refuse or revoke passage to anyone who, in its sole judgment, is unfit to travel on the Vessel or who may require attention beyond that which the Vessel can provide. Passengers may also be required to sign a statement releasing AE from all responsibility relative to the use of shipboard facilities and in the event of an emergency.
17. Medical Personnel: Due to the nature of travel by water, availability of medical care may be limited or delayed, and medical evacuation may not be possible from the Vessel while at sea or from every location the Vessel sails. The Vessel will carry a doctor and/or nurse. Any medical personnel provided are provided solely as a convenience to the Passenger and are not provided for allowing persons with any medical conditions to travel. The Vessel does not have x-ray equipment or hospital facilities. The doctor and/or nurse are independent contractors and are available on the Vessel solely for the convenience of the Passenger, work directly with the Passenger, and shall not be deemed acting as agents and representatives of the Carrier. Carrier assumes no liability whatsoever for any treatment, failure to treat, diagnosis, misdiagnosis, actual or alleged malpractice, advice, examination, or other services provided by such persons or entities. It is the sole responsibility of the Passenger to determine what travel documents are required. Carrier reserves the right to deny boarding to any Passenger who does not possess all necessary travel documents, who does not provide the required medical information correctly and transparently, or who is considered as ill or “unfit to travel” by the ship’s doctor and/or nurse. . In
the event a Passenger is denied boarding, Carrier shall have no duty or obligation to refund the Passenger’s fare. Passenger, or if a minor, their guardian, shall be liable to Carrier for any fines or penalties imposed on Carrier by any government, governmental
authority or port for failure of the Passenger to observe or comply with laws or regulations, including requirements relating to immigration, customs or excise taxes or fees.
19. Cancellation, Deviation or Substitution by Carrier: Carrier may for any reason, at any time and without prior notice, cancel, advance, postpone or deviate from any scheduled sailing, port of call, destination, lodging or any activity on or off the Vessel, or substitute another vessel or port of call, destination, lodging or activity. Carrier shall not be liable for any claim whatsoever by Passenger, including but not limited to loss, compensation, or refund, because of such cancellation, advancement, postponement, substitution or deviation. By way of example, and not limitation, Carrier may, without liability, deviate from any scheduled
sailing and may otherwise land Passenger and his/her property at any port if Carrier believes that the voyage or any Passenger or property may be hindered or adversely affected as a result of hostilities, blockages, prevailing weather conditions, labour conflicts, strikes onboard or ashore, breakdown of Vessel, congestion, docking difficulties, medical or lifesaving emergencies or any other
cause whatsoever.
Carrier shall have the right to comply with any orders, recommendations, or directions whatsoever given by any governmental entity or by persons purporting to act with such authority; and such compliance shall not be deemed a breach of this Agreement entitling the Passenger to assert any claim for liability, compensation or refund. In the event of cancellation, AE will not be responsible for cost of any additional travel arrangements through third party suppliers purchased directly through AE or other parties.
20. If any provision of this Agreement is determined in any jurisdiction to be unenforceable for any reason, it shall be deemed severed from this Agreement and all remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
21. Children and Minors onboard: Minors under the age of 18 must be travelling with a parent or responsible adult over the age of 21 in the same stateroom as well as on shore excursions for the duration of the voyage. If the minor is not travelling with a parent, a Child Travel Consent Form must be signed by a parent or legal guardian and received by AE prior to the release of travel documents. As we travel in remote areas and for safety reasons, AE cannot accommodate children under 8 years
of age (weight of 29 kg and 1.2 m. tall). Although AE accepts children over 8 years of age there is no childcare or special programming onboard. In addition, safety harnesses and seating equipment are not provided for children onboard any AE excursion or shuttle service. 23. Property damage policy: We reserve the right to charge guests the cost of rectifying damage, caused by the deliberate, negligent, or reckless act of the guest to the Vessel’s property or structure.
