Prasat Phnom Chisor & Neang Khmau Temple
Begin your day at Prasat Phnom Chisor, an impressive 11th-century Angkorian temple built from laterite and bricks with intricately carved sandstone lintels. Constructed under the reign of King Suryavarman I and originally named Sri Suryaparvata, this temple is perched atop Chisor Mountain, 133 meters high. Dedicated to the Hindu gods Shiva and Vishnu, the temple offers spectacular views from its eastern edge. From here, you’ll witness a breathtaking panorama of vast rice fields and countryside, along with a unique avenue connecting two outer gates (temples) and a Baray a traditional water reservoir forming a remarkable ancient landscape.
Neang Khmau Temple: Explore this mysterious blackened temple, believed to date back to the Angkor period, standing as a symbol of Cambodia’s ancient past.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant nearby, savoring authentic Cambodian flavors before continuing your afternoon exploration.
Afternoon Temples: Sen Rovieng, Tonle Bati & Ta Prohm
Visit Sen Rovieng Temple, followed by the magnificent Tonle Bati area where you will explore Ta Prohm Temple. This large temple complex features a square sandstone sanctuary with two library buildings, an outer enclosure with vaulted galleries and pavilions, permanent basins, and impressive entrance gopuras on the east and west sides. Built during the reign of King Jayavarman VII in the late 12th or early 13th century, Ta Prohm stands as a stunning example of Khmer architecture and spiritual heritage.
