Point de départ
Guinea-Bissau
Bissau - Bafata
After breakfast, our journey will take us to the Bafatá - the second-largest city in Guinea-Bissau. This city is predominantly inhabited by the Fulani and Mandigas tribes. Here, we'll have the opportunity to explore remnants of Portuguese architecture and navigate through narrow streets. Bafatá is renowned as the birthplace of Amilcar Lopes Cabral, a prominent revolutionary leader in the quest for independence of the country. During our visit, we'll immerse ourselves in the vibrant African market and engage with the warm local population. We will stop for lunch at a local restaurant or picnic. In the afternoon, we'll embark on a short drive of approximately 14 km to reach the historical village Tabato. Our arrival will be marked by the melodic tunes of their Xylophone, played by the renowned Griote, a figure celebrated throughout the country. This visit offers a unique opportunity to witness and participate in the rich traditions and cultural practices of the Manding people. (B/-/-)
Bafata - Cacheu - Canchungo
After breakfast, we will start our drive to Cacheu, the historic first landing site of Portuguese sailors in the 15th century. We will explore the town's rich heritage, including the slave museum and one of the oldest fortresses in West Africa, dating back to the 16th century. We will then continue towards the vibrant Canchungo city. It holds historical significance as one of the largest Manjaco cities and offers a rich blend of cultural experiences. The Manjaco people are a West African tribe living primarily in Guinea-Bissau. Here we will be able to see their distinctive wooden masks, which hold cultural and spiritual significance. These masks are often crafted with intricate designs and symbolism, representing ancestral spirits, stories, or traditional beliefs and are often used in various ceremonies and rituals. In the afternoon we will drive to Casa Canchungo resort (or similar) where we will spend the night. (B/-/-)
