Day 3

Jour 3 : Trek jusqu'à NAMCHE (3420m/11221ft) 5-6 heures/1000m de montée, 100m de descente

Heading towards Namche Bazaar, we cross through the hamlets of Zamphute and Tok Tok, with the dazzling Thamserku glistening in the sun, accompanying us for much of our trek. Passing through the scenic Sherpa villages of Benkar, Chumoa, and Monjo, we reach Utche Choling Gompa, perched on a bluff overlooking the Dudh Koshi river. Continuing along the bluff, we arrive at the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

After completing half the trek to Namche Bazaar, we prepare for the second half, which includes a steep climb at the end. We pass through the last village of Jorsale, and a steep, stepped path leads us to a breathtaking high bridge over the Dudh Koshi River gorge. Just before this bridge, the Dudh Koshi meets its tributary, the Bhote Koshi.

Beginning the final uphill ascent, we slowly reach the heights of Namche Bazaar, where we get our first glimpse of Mt. Everest peering over the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge. After about 1.5 km (0.9 miles), we finally reach Namche Bazaar. Overnight in a lodge. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4

Jour 4 : Trek TENGBOCHE (3870m/12697ft) 4 heures ; 350m de descente, 750m de montée

From Namche, we take an easy level trail that cuts around the ridge from Chhorkung to reach a viewpoint offering a grand panorama of peaks, including Thamserku, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Everest. From here, we continue to Kyangjuma (3,550m), and a short walk brings us to an important trail junction at Sanasa (3,600m). We take the trail to Tengboche, which gently descends towards the river.

The trail gradually drops to Lawichasa, with the thumb-like peak of Ama Dablam soaring into view. From Lawichasa, a narrow trail branches north to Tashinga (3,380m), and then the trail steeply descends on stone steps to Phunki Thenga (3,250m) and continues to a bridge. After crossing the bridge, the trail climbs past water-powered prayer wheels and begins a sustained ascent through a forest of tall, mature rhododendrons.

We might see musk deer and Himalayan tahr among the trees as we follow the path that leads to a kani and a pair of chortens, marking the start of Tengboche village. Tengboche is scattered across a wide, grassy saddle below a crescent-shaped ridge covered by scrub pines and rhododendrons. The focal point of Tengboche is the famous Tengboche Monastery. Overnight in a lodge. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5

Jour 5 : Trek DINGBOCHE (4360m/14305ft) 3-5 heures ; 70m de descente, 580m d'ascension

From Tengboche, we follow the trail through conifer and rhododendron forests, keeping an eye out for monal pheasants and musk deer, leading us to the village of Debuche. Here, we visit Debuche Gompa and a small Buddhist nunnery. Continuing through dense forest, the trail drops steeply to a suspension bridge over the Imja Khola. After crossing, we climb to a white stupa with Buddhist eyes, soon reaching Pangboche village, home to Khumbu's oldest monastery, Pangboche Gompa.

Following the Imja Khola, we climb towards Shomare village. Beyond the treeline, we walk through alpine terrain with yak pastures and herdsmen’s stone huts at Orsho and Tsuro Wog. The trail then descends near the confluence of Imja Khola and Khumbu Khola. Finally, we climb a low ridge to reach Dingboche, a cold and windy settlement with sub-zero night temperatures even in summer. Overnight in a lodge. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6

Jour 6 : Trek LOBUCHE (4930m/16175ft) 4-5 heures ; 700m d'ascension

On the trail to Lobuche, we are surrounded by the majestic Himalayas. Passing through Dusa with its herdsmen's stone huts, we reach Dughla and then Chupki Lhara, where memorials honor fallen Everest climbers. From here, the trail descends to the Khumbu glacier moraine, revealing views of Khumbutse, Lingtren, and Pumori. Walking along a murmuring stream, we finally arrive in Lobuche. Overnight in a lodge. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7

Jour 7 : Trek GORAK SHEP (5160m/16930ft) et EBC (5340m/17521ft) et retour à GORAK SHEP

Today will be a long and challenging day. We start by walking through grassy terrain and scattered boulders, with the snowy walls of lofty mountains ahead. A 60m (200ft) ascent takes us to the top of the Changri glacier’s lateral moraine wall, reaching Thangma Riju. Here, we enjoy a spectacular 360-degree panorama of peaks including Taboche, Lobuche, Pumori, Mahalangur Himal, Changtse in Tibet, and Nuptse on the eastern horizon.

The trail crosses the Changri glacier moraine, which joins the Khumbu glacier from the west. After a steep climb up a stony slope, we reach Gorak Shep and catch our first glimpse of Kala Patthar. From Gorak Shep, we head towards Everest Base Camp (EBC), walking by the shallow blue waters of Gorak Shep Lake, with Changtse peak in Tibet and the Lho La depression straight ahead.

Crossing several glaciers, icefalls, frozen pools of meltwater, exposed icy walls, and large boulders, we finally reach EBC. Here, trekking ends and mountaineering begins. We then descend back to Gorak Shep for the night. Overnight in a lodge. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 8

Jour 8 : Trek KALA PATTHAR (5545m/18193ft) ; retour trek PHERICHE (4240m/13911ft)

Today is the climax of our trek as we meet Everest. After an early breakfast, we cross the wide sandy bed of a dried lake and ascend about 100m through steep zigzags, revealing views of Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse. Continuing the climb, we enjoy grand views of the Khumbu glacier and Nuptse massif, finally reaching the rocky viewpoint of Kala Patthar. The slow, tough ascent is rewarded with stunning panoramic views of Everest.

Descending takes much less time. We retrace our steps through Gorak Shep and Lobuche. From Dughla, we descend to Pheriche along the Khumbu Khola for the night. Overnight in a lodge. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 9

Jour 9 : Trek de retour NAMCHE BAZAR

From Pheriche, the trail descends to Tsuro Wog, crossing the Khumbu Khola bridge with great mountain views. We continue descending through Orsho, Shomare, upper Pangboche, and finally reach the beautiful Tengboche. After visiting Khumbu’s largest gompa, we descend to Phunki Tenga, then proceed to Sanasa, Kyangjuma, and finally Namche Bazaar. Overnight in a lodge. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
