Day 12

À la découverte d'Édimbourg

After a delicious breakfast, at the indicated time, you will have the day off to enjoy Edinburgh.

Optionally, you can add a panoramic city tour.

Edinburgh has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a City of Literature, and with this tour, you will be able to understand why.

The tour starts at the Royal Mile, the backbone of Edinburgh until the 18th century. You will pass by Edinburgh Castle, which stands on volcanic rock and dominates the city skyline.

You will descend the hill and find the church of Saint John, followed by the 12th-century Saint Giles Cathedral. It is also located on the boundary between the old and modern parts of the city, where you can explore the secrets of Mary King's Close, the People's Story Museum, or the Royal Residence, next to the Scottish Parliament.

The afternoon will be free to continue exploring this captivating city at your own pace.

In the heart of the legendary Royal Mile, one of Edinburgh's most unique pubs can be found, named after the character, Deacon Brodie. William Brodie was a resident of Edinburgh in the mid-18th century. By day, he was a highly respected citizen and a member of the Town Council.

However, when night fell, he transformed, associating with the 'worst' of the city for all sorts of 'dark activities': gambling, drinking, women, and more. After exhausting his father's inheritance and drowning in gambling debts, he decided to start robbing the homes of the most prominent citizens.

Initially, nobody suspected him, but due to his numerous intrusions, suspicions arose, and he was eventually discovered and sentenced to hang for his crimes in 1788

Tip: Don't forget to visit the New Town area, where, in addition to historical buildings and monuments, you will find a great variety of bars, pubs, and restaurants to taste the local delights.
